Sallie Mae. They keep calling for "Tina". I told them I don't know Tina, she doesn't live here and furthermore, I have had this number for over 15 years. They said they would take my number off Tina's records. A couple of weeks later, they called again. I answered and again, looking for Tina. I explained previous contact to them and they again said would remove my number from their computer. They continue to call my number. When I do not answer, they do not leave messages. They call 2-3 times per week. Any suggestions on stopping them?

Any idea how to stop this? They are attempting to reach someone named Tina. I called them to twice to tell them Tina does not live here, I do not know Tina and I have had this number for 17 years. Both times they have told me they will remove my number from their records. I keep getting calls from them. The called id says "Unknown Caller". It was only after calling back that I found out who they were trying to reach; the number shows up on my caller id 3-4 times per week.

I just received a call from them. It is indeed the HELP line for students. They were just making a courtesy call to see if I had any questions about my student loans and everything else. They were very cordial and nice. While on the phone they updated my status as I am continuing on with my MBA. I thought I was behind on my student loan or it was another bill collector, but nope! Just a nice courtesy call!

This number calls and leaves no message. I know it is not Sallie Mae because I just talked to them 2 days ago and they ALWAYS leave a message saying they have important information about your loans and to call back. The fact that this number does not leave a message is a red flag!
Sallie Mae now asks if they can leave you a message and if they can text you. I told them yes to both so I know this number is not them because they do not leave any information. Do not give information to someone who just says they have info about your loans.Reply !

Looks like a Scam. I do not live in the US and never took out any loans. I would ignore the calls. If it is really important, they would send something in the mail.

I attended AIU. I just got a call from them. They left no message so I called back. He informed me that he was from the HELP team at AIU and they were calling to inform me about my loans. I don't attend AIU and have since enrolled at another university. After confirming that he was NOT WITH SALLIE MAE the Department of Education since my loans have been passed back and forth between the two, I told him that I was not going to feel bad when I hung up on him. HELP services CTU and AIU and I'm sure a few other schools.
Wendy 2012-06-25 14:11:14 Unknown
Thanx for the info, I too attended CTU.
Chris 2012-06-17 18:58:35 Unknown
Actually, they were calling just to let me know that I can start paying on my interest even while in school. I'm still a student, so they were not contacting me to collect. They were only informing me about payment plans and if I had any questions.

the toll free number to call them back is 888-517-2630
they are calling for good reason 2012-06-14 15:39:12 Unknown
This is not a scam. If you just pick up the phone and listen to how they are trying to HELP you, you would know why they are calling. They are NOT a collections agency and are from the students college they attended. They are trying to help you so you do not default on your student loans and save you from a life of DEBT!!!!!!

Why don't they ever leave a message????
P 2012-05-17 19:36:22 Unknown
Just recently started receiving calls from this number. However, it makes no sense to me why they would start calling me now. I attended Brown College between 2006-2007 and haven't had anything to do with them since. I've been attending a different university for over a year now and all of a sudden, I started receiving their calls. Before I started at my current university, I paid my loans as necessary for Brown as well.
I haven't picked up on them, as I refuse to pick up from an 888 number. However, I do get voice mails from them (in which, they say they're calling from "Browns College" which makes me laugh as they can't even get the school's name right).

Got a call from a different number that turned out to be these guys. Reported them to the local Sheriff's department for harassment. At least at my home the calls should stop. We have a telephone harassment/fraud investigator and I hear he's pretty good. If these guys aren't for real and able to prove it they're going dowm.

That is actually completely false. This company has no affiliation with Sallie Mae nor do they collect any money. They called me a few times and I was unsure who it was so I didn't answer. So instead of just conituing to ignore the calls, I figured I would answer to see what it was. This department actually was quite helpful in answering some questions I had about my student loans. They told me that they do receive info from Sallie Mae but it is used to reach out to people who may be looking for assitance paying their loans. What I took away from the conversation was that they basically provide free counseling to students that attended a handful of schools thay are affiliated with.
So all you have to do is answer the phone call and speak with them and you might learn something about what you can do with your loan payments. They explained some repayment options I was not aware of and now I have lowered my payments to something I can afford and it didnt cost me anything but 20 minutes on the phone.
Sami 2012-05-01 20:59:34 Unknown
Um, you don't pay attention do you? I just had a conversation with them and they just wanted to give me options to do after the 6 month grace period. After I let her know I will be going back to school within the grace period she was very nice and just told me the departments that I would have to contact to let them know I'm going back to school (which since you appear to be ignorant you probably haven't done that) we chatted about school for a bit and that was it. They don't even ask for money. I'm not surprised you dropped out haha.
