Banfield is a scam. It is the closest deal you can find to outright larceny. The reason I find so much discussion of them on the internet is because they don't disclose the terms and conditions of their 'plan' at time of service, in fact, in my case they didn't even print it until I had paid for the service that I requested, a distemper shot, plus, they claim a lot of things I neither asked for or consented to. Any retailer who sells a service or product and relies on legal intimidation rather than appeal or usefulness to re-enforce the relationship operates on the boundary of decency and cannot be considered credible when 'you should have read' or 'i'm such a value, saved you so much money, like it or not,' is used as a defense. The fact is that people don't go to vets expecting contracts, especially slipped into shot record folders. It's also sad that they are associated with Pet Smart who I once held in high esteem. I have had dogs and cats all my life and most of them died of old age and without ever visiting a shopping center quick vet.

i got a call from this number. i called it back, unsure why they were calling b/c i have no pets with this health insurance.
i told them i missed a call from this number; they told me that my phone number was linked to a pet named Frita from Utah. My area code starts with 740 and I don't live in Utah. so the guy said that someone registered my number to their pet and address. he told me they would remove my number from their system.

Keep receiving calls from this number but I have never had any association with this company or number or any contract, so for all of you who say this is not a scam,  I ask why do they call, and keep calling?

Banfield Pet Hospital did not care for my dachshund. Kept telling me that it was normal that my dog didn't want to eat, losing weight was ok. He went from 16pounds to 7. Was dying and in organ failure. I finally took him to a different vet who diagnosed him with Pancreatic Enzyme Insufficiency and started him a medication immediately.  Banfield Hospital is a JOKE and I would not recommended it to anyone that cares about their animals.

Why would they be calling a business phone number that I have been using for many years. I received the 1st call from this company about a week ago, a message was left, but I did not return the call.
Now that I answer their calls....they hang up. I think it's also a telemarketing call from Banfield.

I have excellent credit you nimrods, these sombitches continued to charge me after my 1 year contract expired. I went to my store to discuss this s*** and they refused to terminate my 12 month contract after 15 months of billing. They gave me a number to their executive offices in another state when i told them why i was calling about Fraudulent billing they hung up the phone after a 45 minute hold. I had no choice but to cancel the card. I sent a cease and desist letter yet they keep calling if i get a negative report on my credit bureau i will hit the internet to file a class action lawsuit against these gangsters. And for you morons who think your getting good deals i suggest you just check out your local vets you will find your over paying them.

It is not scam, not a telemarketer. It is Banfield Pet Hospital in regards to your pet's comprehensive plan. My information had changed and they just wanted to update the info. They've been great, and I've had them for over 10 years.

For once - not a scam call!!!  I am the first to report such calls on this web site, but I can tell you that this call is from Banfield Pet Hospital (usually associated with PetSmart stores).  I had my monthly pet insurance payments charged to my Visa check card and I recently got a new card with a new number and expiration date.  I forgot to notify Banfield and they were unable to process last month's payment.  I just called them back and gave them my new card # and all is right with the world again.

I received a phone msg. to call Banfield @ the toll free number. It was regarding the monthly wellness program fee BUT they just wanted to know should they put 2 pmts. on my card or one now and the other in a little over a week. See my credit card number was stolen and now useless I received my new card just 2 days prior & my Banfield vet office was one of the first calls I made to update the info. Obviously my current pmt wouldn't go through BUT the rep only called to inform me that they could put thru current pmt. now or a double pmt. when it next came due. It was my choice, the rep. didn't want me to be surprised that 2 pmts. a week apart or a double pmt. would be charged. So refreshing when one gets a caring & considerate company's rep & policy.
I now many collections people can be rude, mean & some scary. But I often find that when something is talen care of quickly not waiting for a debt to even GET to a collections point, companies are willing to work with the customer. If you can't or no longer can afford the Wellness Plan cancel it or don't renew it.

I just looked at my contract. It clearly states unless I cancel it it renews.
Call a trial lawyer firm and sue them for failure to disclose full terms of the contracct they held you to
you'll get the coplaintiff reward if your contract is different than mine this is usually well in excess of
$10,000. If you speak the truth you struck it rich.
But if I am responsible and do my dogs two dental cleanings each year
its a wash.

This is Banfield. No fine print either every brochure plus the contract states that it is a wellness plan and that the charges are monthly for 12 months. My expiration date passed plain and simple.

Jack I suggest you read the pig Latin brochures they may work better. Why do you contract for anything you do not understand.

I venture to guess your life will improve 100 fold once you do that and agree to be bound by your word too.

Debt Collector
This is Banfield Pet Hospital calling about a pet Wellness Plan, which is a recurring monthly fee.  The only time they call is if there is a billing issue such as your credit card on file is declined, or the card on file has expired.  It's actual Banfield representatives, and not a "standard" debt collector/collection agency.  They're just calling to get updated credit card info from you.  As soon as they get updated info they quit calling.  You can call them and give this to them over the phone, or you can go into the clinic and update it there.  Any time I've spoken with them, the reps have been nothing but helpful, polite, and very professional.  If you don't update your credit card information they do eventually turn you over to a collection agency because you're under a contract to pay the monthly fee for a 1-year period.  The plan automatically renews every year, and if you want to cancel it you have to notify them before the renewal date that you want to cancel.  If your pet passes away or you want to cancel for some other reason, you're required to either pay the full value of all services received while under the plan (less what you've already paid) or continue paying the monthly fee until the year contract is up.  This is all clearly stated in the contract that you agreed to when signing up...which most people don't read (just like a cell phone contract).  Just because you didn't do your research and/or didn't read the contract prior to agreeing to it doesn't give you the right to not pay them.  You should never agree to any contract without reading it first, and if you don't read it you don't have any right to be complaining about it!

according to posts this may be Banfield
right after the call, not leaving a message (I was at work) followed an 'anonymous' call, not leaving a message either
My experience with them:
had a cat spayed, when I got it back it was not able to maintain its temperature, and a friend human surgeon told this is because it very probably did asphyxiate during surgery and was very probably revived
when I got the cat, there were three more animals on drips in cages from the same day surgery
paperwork: I did not check it until some time later:
the cat was not moving, not hearing, not seeing, I needed to get a heating pad to keep it's temp up until it started to raise its own temp about 5am next day.
the paperwork stated I got the cat 'well', check marks on the computer printout were all 'normal', normal hearing, normal sight, normal reaction.
The cat was basically dead, this was forgery - they tried to use that later

The cat did not hear, woke, did not see at all. After three months the cat got some hearing on one ear, and some sight on one eye
It moved with a tilted head typical for cerebropalsy, it died from a massive seizure.

They agreed to terminate the plan, on the phone, until today I did not get any written confirmation.
The local manager refused to give her name, Banfield refused to give identification or people involved.

They lie, they cheat, they sell pet food with pork in it (I read the label, I don't give pork to an animal for all the effect it has on joints and cartilage), they fake paperwork.
When I called about them being decent to end the plan I got the major runaround, and one said what I want, according to the paperwork the cat was fine.

May work for some if everything goes well, if something does not they hide, lie. Obviously that day an unqualified person did the surgeries, I doubt that all of them who affirm to be vets really are, most are students, inexperienced, cheap.

I've been a customer for years until recently I've had some real financial troubles and I've ALWAYS paid my vet bills!  People make it seem so easy that we have money just flowing out of our pockets or that we have the money to pay but don't pay it!  That is not always the case.  I get so sick and tired of you debt collectors being so judgemental so think before you make some arrogant comment!!!

This was Banfield. The credit card (debit card) they had on file didn't have enough available for the monthly dues.

To the people who are bitching about paying for the Wellness Plan:

1) YOU SIGNED UP FOR IT. Nobody forced you to.

2) "My pet is healthy, I think 25 dollars a month is too much". Well, considering what you get for that 25.00 a month, it's about the same, if not cheaper than if you bought all of the covered services out of pocket, especially for a new puppy or kitten. Vaccinations, tests, and spay/Neuter for $300.00.. and you think you're getting ripped off? Wake up.

I have 2 dogs, one was a bit older when she was signed up. I pay $86.00 a month for the two. My 12 month agreement will come out to $1032.00. Both dogs needed spayed/neutered. Both needed all of thier vaccines. One needed a dental cleaning.

I priced all of the services they needed, and I was going to cost right at $1050.00 to get it all done (at my vet I used before banfield) So the wellness plan costs about the same, but allows me to spread the cost out over 12 payments... It's basically a free loan. It's easier to cough up $86.00 than $400 here, $160.00 there.

The plan is best for new puppies/kittens, as the first year is always the most costly FOR NORMAL, ROUTINE CARE.

After the 12 months are up, this plan will be cancelled, and they will then be on a more traditional "insurance" plan that coveres illness and accidents.

Just because you didn't do your research doesn't entitle you to be bitter now. Pay your obligations.

Do you have health insurance for yourself? You have to pay that even if you're not sick and don't use it. I know this isn't health insurance, but it's the same concept. It's actually been very helpful for me because one of my dogs has been sick a few times - kennel cough, allergies, etc., and I don't have to pay for the visit to take him in.

Same here - I've received a couple of calls but no message, and I don't answer calls from toll free numbers. I did receive a letter from Banfield telling me that they couldn't charge my card - I actually went there tonight and updated the info, so I'm assuming that was what this call was about.

When I signed up, it wasn't fine print. It clearly said it wasn't insurance, but a Wellness Plan.
