SCAM! Indeed.
My phone number is registered with the National Federal Trade Commission's "Do Not Call" list.
In short, I'm reporting their call to the NFTC and the FBI fraud department.
I advise everyone to do the same, it's fast and easy.
Let's show these a$$holes that we will not tolerate letting them victimize our communities!

The "Licence Number" these scammers give is, in fact, the Windows Licence Number, which is the same on all computers, worldwide, which run Windows. It's a clever move on their part to try and fool people into thinking they know which is our computer.  As you have realised, they know nothing about our computers.  They don't know our ISP or our IP address, they don't even know which version, if any, of Windows we are running.  They even 'phone Mac users offering to correct their Windows faults!!  They just want remote access to our computers and, if they get it, they will install spyware/malware to steal personal information like bank details and passwords. There is a warning about this scam on the Microsoft website.

Telemarketer
just got a call from this company from a blocked number. should have known better. Guy with heavy indian accent said he was with windows support and noticed some errors coming from my computer IP address - I asked him which one? uhhhhh stumble look through script to find appropriate answer...I asked what IP address is he talking about so I know which computer is the one with problem...he said I cannot see it by IP but with the license...he started to read off a huge lengthy "license number"
Then I asked how did they get my number as I am on Do Not Call registry?! click! he hung up.

BOGUS Company do not bother wasting your time with them....if it was a real "Windows" issue they would release a patch directly to your computer & not have some out sourced telemarketer call you with this bogus BS.

I have received three of these calls in a two month span. their number shows up as 888-888-8888 in phone, but I aksed for his number and he says 888 732 3037 abd this time his name was george thomas. Last time it was peter wilson. I told him it was a scam and do not call again-he totally denied it was a scam-in a very thick accent, as did the two previous callers. They all said they were from windows and my computer had errors in it. Beware!

Same experience as posters above. I got a call from 888-888-8888, with the same dialogue as posted above. I told the guy my computer was at home so I couldn't access it, and he gave me a number to call back after I get home: 1-888-732-3037 x1012.

I won't be calling them back for sure. Thanks everyone for the heads up.

Received a call with ID 888-888-8888 just now. Same experience as described above, with the guy telling me he was from Windows support and my computer had errors. Very heavy accent and said his call back was 888-732-3037 Ethan Hunt, x1010. Told me he needed to access my computer to fix and I said I'd call him back. I told him to take me off his list and he said if he did that he'd revoke my Windows license permanently! Do NOT allow access or even answer calls with blocked ID's like this. Total scam and maybe worse.

I too received a call from "Microsoft Windows Technical Support." The caller fit the same profile as the other calls allegedly from this 800 number. The caller claimed my computer was hacked. Since I had dealt with a company with the same call back number in the past, I trusted the caller to take over my machine and demonstrate the problem. He showed me the hacker's IP address--which turned out to be the looping IPA that appears on every Windows computer. Then he showed me a Trojan spyware--which turned out to be the ubiquitous CSRSS graphics module that Microsoft installs on every Windows computer. I did uninstall the team viewer after the call and searched my system for problems. I found a very bad Trojan, CVE 2013 3598, which likely was not on my machine before this call. Beware folks, these people may be up to more mischief than just running a scam.

Received a call a few minutes ago from RESTRICTED....knew from right then when I answered and it rang through to someone else it wasn't legit.  Very heavy accent, I had to ask him to repeat himself.  Asked him to tell me what I needed to be looking for...kept telling me to let him know when I had my computer running. Said my computer had been hacked and was sending messages.  I told him I needed to call him back as I didn't have my computer.  When I asked him if he knew my name and who he was calling he said Amaya.  Then right away said, oh my, I have the wrong number?  I am so so sorry.  My apologies.  Gave me 1-888-732-3037 as call back number.

I got the same call.  Heavy Indian accent. He told me how to view my errors and warning from Microsoft and said that my computer will crash if I don't resolve this soon.  He was surprised that I didn't have problems already with it. He then wanted me to downloaded a remote access software so that he could gain control of my computer and fix the problem.  I knew at that point that it was scam.  Why would Microsoft waste their time calling millions of Windows users and spending a couple hours resolving their problems that they don't even know they have.  I asked him to send me an email with ways I can resolve the problem myself, and he said that he can only call and resolve over the phone.  I just got his number and hung up.  Smells Fishy!

Yep, seems to be going around.  Had the same call two days in a row.  Today it was from Ethan at x1010.  Heavy eastern accent, not sure is Indian or Pakistani.  Sure getting to be annoying though.  Said my IP was 192.168.1.100.  What kind of idiots are these people.

"Daisy" from "New Delhi" just called me about 10 minutes ago saying she was with Windows Support.  I have no idea how they got my number and I should have asked who they wanted to speak to.  I was skeptical and asked a bunch of questions and said I wouldn't buy anything, but cautiously did the Windows symbol + r, typed in reportvwr (or something like that) and did in fact get a huge list of error and warning messages, but I wasn't willing to go any further than that.  The Caller ID said it was from "Vzw at Best Buy,"  888-888-8888, but she gave her # as 888-732-3037 ext 1016.  I told her I'd call back if I was comfortable and immediately Googled the 732 number, which gave me this site as the first option.  I might be willing to call Windows or Gateway or a computer repair company of my choosing, but unless I initiate the conversation with a known entity, I am NOT going to allow anyone to access my computer remotely (I did it once with Sony when I had trouble with my camera and they wanted to see examples of the problem photographs but couldn't receive e-mail...I ended up sending it in for a new shutter).

I received the same call from "Daisy" just a few minutes ago. The accent was so thick I had a very hard time understanding her.

When she wanted to allow them access to my computer to fix these "errors" I questioned the authenticity of the call and she told me to I could call her back at 1-888-732-3037 ext 1012 so that I would know it was legitimate.  LOL

Like calling her back at the number she gives me would prove anything!  HaHa

I received a call 1/3/14 from 888-732-3037 (showed up on my phone as 9118) spoke to a guy named larry ext 0101 and then a guy named dean ext 1005, saying they're from windows technical dept. and that my computer is sending info to them saying that my computer is receiving error messages and warnings and that I should press fn and r at same time, and to type the word event in that section.  I didn't do that and said I would call them back.  Sounds like a scam!

A guy Peter Jackson, with an obvious Indian accent, very adamant about me letting him help fix my computer.  He said something about working for Windows tech support.  He wanted me to access my computer and hit the window icon with the r, and see a pop up window.  I questioned who he was again, asked for number.  I also asked how much it would cost. Her said it's not about the money, but your security.  I told him give me number and I will call back.  He seemed to get upset.  I could hear a lot of voices in the background.  The number he gave me was 888-732-3037, ext 1004.  Not calling back and am blocking number.
