Did you ever think to use an answering machine, and let it answer for you ?
Collection agencies don't like those machines and quit calling after a few times, at least with me, they did.

Had a call, They identified themselves as Unityversity of Colorado Hospital Biz officee. They asked for insurance information for a patient visit to be faxed to them. I did not trust that they were who they claimed so I called the hospital directly. Turns out they are a third party collection agency (TCS?) that handles old paperwork for the hospital (even though our account was clear). I called them and discussed the situation and they said they would handle it without me providing additional information. I asked if they were PRA and the agent would not answer me....

Someone from this number just called. 888-801-1455 is just one of the dozens that Portfolio Recovery Associates Collection Agency uses. They are debt collectors that buy up old debt that is uncollectible and try to bully people into paying ... even if the debt invalid. They try to collect discharged debt, including paid debt. Most of their collection efforts are spent on debt where the statute of limitations has run. They don't care if it's not your debt or cleared debt!

This is Portfolio Recovery. They call constantly, often with different numbers. Seems to be the same person calling, sometimes leaves message, sometimes not.
