1501 Merchants Way in Niceville is one of the Departments locations. This is a LEGITIMATE request. Also; depending on which state you are in this could be a mandatory report.

This is the US Department of Labor's Current Employment Statistics line. Your company may have been chosen for the surveyt.

They left a message that they would be mailing me an orange, flat package with literature & a worksheet; I was not to throw it away, and they will call me next week as by that time I should have received it. This happened a few years ago & it was basically a request to complete a census for them each month. We did it for awhile but then I became short-staffed & stopped as it wasn't mandatory. They did constantly call for about two months to get me to start up again, but then stopped. I'm assuming this is the same request as last time.

However, it's completely voluntary. We choose not to use our company time on it.

It's the department of labor wanting a labor report that is not mandatory. Our company participated for a bit, however, it was a huge pain and quit participating a few months. I still receive many calls and emails "reminding" us to submit our labor numbers, but again, it's not mandatory. We have chosen not to use our company time and resources.

Yes it is DOL or an agency conracted through them. It is EXTREMELY annoying they call every single month and keep calling until you answer them. Last message I got was the lady saying that they have been "doing some digging around" and the numbers we reported dont match up... Not even sure what that means but anytime a govt agency says they have been doing some digging around doesnt sound good.
Its a huge pain in the a**...

It's a survey - how else do you think they get their report numbers. It's legit. We've been on the survey for a year now.

Hi Louise
I would like to thank you for your post. I work for the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the issue of the 888 number for one of our data collection centers is something that we are currently addressing.
Thanks for clearing this up. Do you work for the BLS?

Got a call from this number this morning. When the caller rattled off our old address, I got really suspicious. My company moved well over a year ago, announcing and confirming change of address to all pertinent government agencies is one of the first things our HR Dept did.
Well, if they call back I'll grill them for more information.

When we called the actual Dept of Labor they had no idea who this person is.

You are not obligated to continue reporting, but they will keep calling and harrassing you even after you tell them to stop.

A woman calling from the U.S. department of labor. Just transfer her to your payroll dept.

Actually it IS mandatory in four (4) States. North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina & Washington State.
The reason this is an 888 number is for the ease of businesses calling in their data.
This information that is given to the DOL each month is to gauge not only employment rates for the Nation's non-farm economy; but it also sets the National Minimum Wage Requirements among other things. They have been doing this since 1932. If you get a call from them consider yourself and your business lucky...not every business gets selected.
For more information on this go to www.bls.gov.

I just got a reminder call today. The number belongs to US Bureau of Labor Statistics. They collect general payroll data - employee count, payroll gross amounts, commissions and hours.
It's not mandatory BUT once data is given to them you are obligated to continue to report to them for 3 years or until they decide, which ever happens first.
They usually only call if one is starting to get late in reporting their numbers.
One would think that they would have a better caller ID than just a non-descriptive 800 Service :( Which is why I didn't answer it the first time and the second time they called they at least left a message.

ok so this is a legit deal...but it is not manditory...L3 communications is collecting the data for pay roll and employment. the dept. of labor statics called us back saying that it is non government entity that is collecting this data for the d.l.s. so its your call if you want to or not.

Lady called asking for my boss. She said she was from the US Dept of Labor. Looking for a data base report. Sounded as if it could be on the up and up, but we have had a lot of problems so I asked her a few questions which she got rather irritated with me over. I explained that we have had an extreme number of solicitor calls lately and if she is legitimate to please forgive all the questions. I then went to transfer her to my boss and she hung up! So who are these people and are they legitimate?? Please shed some light!!
