Getting phone calls at least 3-4 times a week.  It's getting really frickin annoying.  We do not owe money to anyone and they keep calling.  If you call their number you get a recording.

NCO - check out their BBB report on the website of "Southern Alberta Better Business Bureau" to see their horrendous rating of "F" - yes just as bad as it can get.  This company should not be allowed to have a collection license let alone call people about their past due accounts!!   Trust them lol - not a bit and neither should you!

Reply to B - you must work for these bottom feeders.  Incidentally, their BBB report rates this company an abysmal "F".  They should not even have a collection agency license, be allowed access to the credit bureau with such a horrific rating - if this is how they run their business, they should not be contacting others about how they run their personal business.  Trust them LOL - I think not.

Yup the bottom feeders again.  You can always tell when the end of the month is coming up - they need to make their commissions on the misery of others to supplement their $10 an hour job.  Listen to the whiny voices trying to sound like they are "authoritative" LOL - they fool no one (I guess I would be sounding like that too if I had to squeek all day to get paid).  Oh well - with this economy, at least debt collection is becoming a popular job.  Just think of all the professional people out there waiting for the economy to improve so they can return to rewarding work, i.e., collectors produce nothing and do not benefit society in any positive manner.  You do not have to deal with them.  Make sure you check with your provincial laws - most cannot sue you if the debt is over 2 years old BUT if you acknowledge the debt or pay one red cent the 2 year period starts over again.  Best to ignore or even hang up on them if you answer your phone to one of them.

They should already know that....being they have already been sued for FDCPA and TCPA violations:

Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.
