Just received a call at my workplace, a coworker answered. "Chavez" stated there is a legal matter in my name and my coworker said she was very nasty.
I tried to call back the above # at extension 414 and there was no answer.
I feel better knowing this is a scam but they have no right to harass me at work. I wish I had picked up the phone.
Agree with above re: identity theft protection. My bank offers it for a small fee and they have already notified me of 3 potential scammers. Definitely worth it.

One thing you may want to do is get identity theft protection, since they have your full SSN. Please also contact at least one of the three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and your bank(s) and have them place fraud alerts on all your accounts.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I got a call telling me I owe 540 dollars to a cash now place, she keeps saying they try contact me via phone but couldn't leave a message. She calls my job saying she must speak with me now, or else she is sending my paperwork to court. Then when I asked the company's name she ignored me am said I had to pay 138.40 now and for the next to two weeks 202. I asked can I pay through a money order she said it had to be a credit card. This is a scam company. The police won't do anything and sadly I'm 19 and they have my full social security number. I want someone to get this " Mrs. Chavez"!
