I also received a call from 1-888- 990-1GOV (1468).  They informed me that they were from the Federal Debt Commission (FDC) and that I qualified for a loan modification.  They had detailed information on me like the name of my bank and military service.  FDC wanted me to send my newly modified loan payments to 2020 Pennsylvania Ave., NW. Dept. # 677 Washington, DC 20006.  I sat down at my computer and Bing and Google the Federal Debt Commission at the address in the above and found no listing FDC.  I then researched the telephone number 1-888- 990-1468 and found that this call was a scam.  I called my bank to verify if Joshua Epstein and William Hawthorn were  representatives of my bank and they were not listing.  My spouse then called the toll free number again, first Joshua then William answered the phone (my wife noticed that both Joshua and William sounded like the same person); and they tried to assure my wife that the email with a certificate is coming.  My wife cut Joshua/William off and told them: "That they should be ashamed of themselves for preying on vulnerable people and taking advantage of their delicate situation.  And I hope you go to Hell for your deeds." Joshua/William hung up the telephone.  Just for giggles, I checked my account and I received no email from Joshua/William.

I, too, just got this exact same call, and was very suspicious.  From all accounts this is just a scam.  TOO BAD, it would be nice if the Federal Government did something helpful for a change. :(

I too received a phone call exactly like the one above from John C. I find it to be suspicious as well. Does anyone else know anything about this?

They say they are from the Federal Debt Commission and that Obama's new federal hardship programs allow various "hardship" cases to refi mortgages at lower rate for "no fee." They quoted me a new mortgage payment (only info I gave was my existing payment and rate). They sent me an email with some attachments and an address of 2020 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Dept. 677, Washington, DC 20006. I found only one real listing for "Federal Debt Commission" reporting it as a scam from Washington state. Odd there are not more reports of it as a scam if it is a scam, or maybe it's new. I'm not planning on responding further. I'm definitely suspicious.
