A Debbie Carse called from this number. A very rude person who wanted to know who was handling my mothers final affairs, but was resistant to give me any info.

Yes. W.A.M. I'd had numerous hang-ups till I finally got a name on the answering machine. A rather generic sounding "...this is [name withheld]..." stating for the personal representative to call back in regards to account #nnnn-nnnn" and that was it. No mention as to what it was about, nor the company. I had to go through all the old files to find the right account number ... WHICH I had been guaranteed by the FIA Bankcard / Bank of America--they go under many names--that I was not necessarily responsible for a deceased parent's bill; I had no money for the same reason: Mom had slowly died of cancer.
I noted that on the back it states, "This is an attempt to collect a dept and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. This communication is from a dept collector."
A more complicated one said on the front, how 1) IF you call or write you are admitting to the bill, 2) if you do nothing, they might consider it a bill; and I forget the 3) bit ... but you owe!
I handed this to our family lawyer. He smiled & handed it back, stating, "That is not a bill."
They have to give you a "Proof of Claim" within 9 months. That's supposed to come after the 3 Weekly "Notice to Creditors" during a will proceeding, probate--or I guess bankruptcy--after the person in question has died.
This is the same company that insisted years ago that mom, and all us kids, pay up her husband's dept, which I later found isn't necessary. Nice people.
One last bit: Always set up wills. It'll save you years of grief.

Have called over 20x leaving vm's. All referencing "who is handling the final affairs" of a Kimberly D. Walton, please call 888.999.2156. I do not know such a person but saw this obit: http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2009/01/1 ... 99035413409.txt
Seems the person died of cancer which is horrible.
Why are they calling me? I don't even know this person.

I think they are West Asset Management Services, which has something to do with collections of estates for BOA, from all that I can gather.

Another number from either the estates/collections dept. of the Bank of America, or a collection agency they work with.
