Ms. Laverne King called and told me that she was from the law offices of Carolyn Cox and said that I was going to be arrested for theft.  She asked me if I have ever been arrested before.  I asked her where she was calling from, and all she said was the "fraud department".  After going around in circles with me telling her that I would gladly pay my bill, and her telling me that it is not a bill, she said that in 30 minutes I would be arrested at my place of business (and gave me the address).  I told her that the consumer attorney that I have spoken with let me know that I cannot in fact be arrested.  She said, "Well, when the cops show up in 30 minutes to arrest you I guess I'll show you more than I can tell you."  Then she hung up.  Classy.

She call me and told me she worked for an attorney by the name of Delores Epetein bar number 435496 this is fake.

I received a phone call from a Laverne King stating she was a FL State Fraud Investigator.  She asked if I had ever been arrested for stealing. Apparently there was a fraud on my bank account from a payday loan and it showed as outstanding. She said I needed to contact a criminal defense attorney and that I should be hearing from the local prosecutors office. She said if I didn't pay over $800 that a warrant was going to be issued for my arrest and I would get picked up by the police from work or at home. She also knew my mothers home address and place of employment.
So, I sent her the payment.  
I have since done my research and found that Laverne is actually Larissa and she works with/for a  man named Chris MacDonald (or McDonald), who owns this scamming company (you cal also look him up in the FL Dept or Corrections database, he is a child molester). His cell phone # is 904-304-7170.  I have tried to see if there is a class action suit against them so I can be added to it. I am not sure if I can get my money back or not at this point.

Hello, I was actually scammed from these people for over $800.  I would like to join this class action suit.

this is a fraud company a guy named chris macdonald owns this company his cell phone is 904-304-7170 he is a child molestor in the state of florida u can look him up on the department of corrections website in the state of fl he is a low down dirty scum bag collector and "Laverne " is his employee her real name is Larissa and she is philaphineo and the scum of the earth. People should call her back and tell her you want the instructions on how to pay the bad check and then call money gram corporate offices  and complain with their recivier code also you can file complaints with the insurance commissioner (thats who governs collections agencies in the state of Florida) and call Mr. Macdonald and harras him to death on his personal cell phone these people belong in jail !

I just owned this bitchh LaVerne King on the phone today.Called my local PD, who in turn called her. She won't bother me again. If you get a call from her, call your locall police and have them come out and file a report. This bi*** is lucky I don't live local to her or else she would be a done deal.

She called me today with the same information

I also filed with the BBB. I have started a case with my attorney and I would like to get some more people involved before we file.

I got called from Laverne King today and said the sheriff was coming to arrest me for felony grand theft and felony check fraud. She evn called and told one of my employees to stay at work when I got back from my attorneys office so that they can point me out to the police. She told my employee everything. I have filed a complaint with the FTC but does anyone have any other recommendations? She called and threatened me 8 times today and had a Jim Fox call me from here too. They would not tell me their company name, said they were lawyers and then said they weren't. Said they were attorneys and then said they only work for the attorney. I would like to get a class action suit against these people. Please reply back if you would like to join me.

They kept calling and I even went to my attorney and told Laverne that and she freaked out on me on the phone. She called my store that I manage and told my employee to stay yhere until I got back from my attorneys office so that my employee could identify me to police when they got there. Hi, my husband just received a phone call.....like an hour ago....over some payday loan that we cannot remember getting....it was from the Lavern King lady....told him he had 2 hours to come up with 700 dollars...or he would be arrested and bail would be 2100???....then called him right back and told him nevermind...he had to pay it right now cuz they couldnt wait the 2hours???,,,,,,,,this is illegal right???...they r not going to pick him up over this right now r they??

I received a call today from Lavern King representative of Carolyn Cox. Told me I was being investigated for theft and the local County Investigator would be sending someone to pick me up for theft, my bond would be $3500 if I didn't pay $1570.00 within two hours.  Mind you I was at work when I received this call, been looking over my shoulder all day thinking I was going to be arrested on my job.  I have reported this company to the FTC and plan on filing a lawsuit against them.  You cannot threaten arrest for a debt, I know that has to be against the law.

Yes, we need to get a class action lawsuit on this Laverne  King - she used the SAME scare tactics - please don't believe it's not true that you "will be arrested when you get home"!  I believe the name of the company is DMP 800 883 9067  or JTZ Prism 800-633-1950.  I am going to send a certified letter!

The Better Business Bureau has released many alerts on this scam, google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"  Scams mutate so read all the alerts to get a flavor of what they are.

Lavern King called me on the day of my grandmothers funeral and left a vmail about me being investigated for fraud and said if i didnt call back within the next hour charges will be filed on me. it didnt make sense because i called the police department and they said that they would never call and say anything like that. Plus the woman said they had a corporate number that really didnt make sense. so anyone that recieves this call from the 904 number dont worry its a bunch of crap. And if i bump into her on the streets imma whoop that a***

Received a phone call yesterday from Laverne King.  She called my previous employer and told them and my mom that I am going to be arrested for fraud.  She offered to give my mom a bond amount.  Called local  presecutor's office  and found out this is not true.  This lady is a real piece of crap.. Have recorded message from her on my sister's cell phone and plan to contact Florida and Idaho Attorney General's office as she represented herself as a fraud investigator form the state of Florida.  What a bunch of crap. These guys work for loan sharks.

I'm still nervous from my call about 2 hours ago, pretty much the same tatics stated that the judge was about to sign the papers and I would be picked up today. If I didn't pay $540.00 by the end of business day. Her name was Laverne King and investigater for the law office of Carolyn Cox. When I began to ask questions about the payday loan company and the bar number for Carolyn Cox. She became very irrate and stated then you will just go to jail, then hung up.

same story -- "Laverne King" called several family members saying that one of my sisters is being accused of theft/fraud.  had convinced my other sister (a lawyer, no less) that the state's attorney was about to make an arrest.  definitely violating some fair lending practices here.....
