Heavily accented caller wanting credit card information, claimed to be from VISA and investigating "unusual activity" on my account. First question was "What bank is your VISA from?" I told him I don't give that type of information over the phone and would call VISA directly, which I did right after I hung up on him. VISA, of course, has no record of any "investigation" or inquiry on my account. Total scam. I reported it to Phone Busters - the number the cops gave me that deals with telephone fraud.

they just called 5 mins ago. The number is from a scammer, do not answer it.

I live in New Brunswick and I just got a call from this number. I knew by the name on the phone before I answered it that it was a scam. It showed up as "V01281438400042". So that made it clear to me that it was one of those stupid calls. I like to answer them to just tell them to take me off their call list and to see what they are about without giving out any info. After about 15 seconds or so a computer generated voice came up and said "goodbye". So now that they know someone is home at this time to answer I know they will be calling back today or very soon. When I googled the number I found this wonderful site and am going to tell my famiy and friends to beware. Thank you all for yout posts, they gave me great ideas on how to "play dumb" so they wont bother calling back. I suggest spreading the word to as many as possible so that no one we know and care abut suffers.

just got a call from them and i gave them all of my info. i called visa right away reported it and had my card # changed. be careful these people are serious scammers

yeah wtf is this scam... hello is this mr smith?? your visa has points.. i said i dont have a visa ... oh he says it must be a mastercard the bank must have confused it i say what is this about oh let me get in contact with the bank im also confused he says,,,, so curious i call the number back and it says out of service and this is just about 1 minute after i was called?? what kinda scam is this one.. should i cancel my credit cards??

I got the call today - visa/mastercard and I won a trip to the US.  He needed to verify my address etc...  He could not tell me what mastercard it was and I did not give him any details.  This is a complete scam.

I keep on getting calls but when I amswer there is nothing there. I feel very happy that I do not have to talk to these jerks. By the way what is VISA & MC doing about this? is it the responsibillity of the cosumer to report scammers?

Yeah "Robert Brown" called me with an Indian accent...sure...and he says..I'm from the verification dept of visa/mastercard...you have some points on your card and  you have a reward. I told him I don't have a credit card and he argues that I do. I said I haven't had a credit card with any company for years. oh and he knew my last name but couldn't give me the first name on the card just the initial D. I said..D for what...David? He hung up. I don't know a David(with my last name)...and I could barely hear or understand the guy and he kept repeating himself.

exact same story for me - and he really wanted to know my exp. date on my card.  I told him I would give it out when I received some info in the mail.   When I told him to just give me 30 seconds, I entered the phone number into Google and wound up here.  I just flat said I am not interested  and he quickly hung up - pretty sure he knew what I was doing.

I got a call from 905-345-4321 around 2:00 pm from a thick east indian accented woman who identified herself as Barbara Collins, from MasterCard / Visa rewards. She indicated that I had won an all-inclusive trip but needed to verify information. She got as far as reciting my last name and address before I cut her off since Call Display showed unknown name.

Some things we can do:
1) If you pick up the call and there is a delay before someone comes on the phone, hang-up because
the automatic dialer takes a few seconds to switch to a person.

2) If you want to play with them, just say 'Wait a minute until I get my card' then go watch TV.
As they can only get money by making volume calls this will slow them down immensely.

3) Don't answer calls you don't recognize.

Be careful out there!

Got a call just after 7:00 am scared me as my Mother is sick.  I missed the call and they hung up when it went to voice mail. I try to call back but they said the line was out of service. Really sick scamers calling that early.

Got a call 1130am re won a prize - would be delivered within a week to our home.
Need to know what visa card I had - when he called he said it was mastercard and had a profile

THANKS for this info, folks!!  This call just came in.  An obvious scam, as a pleasant gentleman with a subcontinent accent told me some incredible guff about travel points on my visa card -- that is ridiculous, believe me.  I'd know if there were such a feature.  So I challenged him a bit, and then said I'm not interested and hung up.

I'm getting calls from this number too. A few years ago I started a policy of NEVER but NEVER answering the phone from numbers I don't know.  I put my # on the no call registry as soon as the govt announced it.  It was great for a month or so then the hell began all over again.  So I will never answer.  If it's legit they can leave a message.  Horrible nasty people.

Just got call from this number. Someone named "Alex" without any introduction asked what my name was and then proceeded to ask whether I was working or a student. I told him not to call my number ever again and hung up. What a scam!

this stupid 905-345-4321 keeps calling us.  Last time they called told i was late on my payment and that I would go down to the bank and pay that day or else.  when I got off the phone with him i phoned visa and said that it wasn't them.  this guy had a accent too.  I wish we could do something about this. grrrrr
