David Reid has called claiming I owe him money for an online yellow page add. Apparently an employee of mine authorized the transaction that took place over the phone. He played back a recording that was obvious dubbed with the answers they were looking for. I told him it is a scam and to leave me alone. He threatened me with legal action and collection notification. A couple days later he called again and asked for the employee that was cohersed into the dubbed recording. Apparently the employee left a message for him. The employee listened to the recording and admitted talking with the harassing phone callers but not answering the questions the recording had on it. One question I remember was if the employee was authorized to make these type of decisions for the company. The recording was an obvious dubbing to a yes. The employee in no way, is authorized for this and he knows it and would never. David threatened legal action and collections again. They claim we owe them $676.80 and interest is accuring all the time. We have decided to wait him out a little and to let everyone know who he is. David Reid of the Online Public Yellow Pages is a scammer and a thief! Hopefully he will get caught and all of his personal rights stripped and be put into prison for life.

I get this number and it comes up on the caller ID as *11.  they are looking for somebody else and when I called back they wanted a bunch of personal information which I would not give them.  Now when I call the phone hangs up and says they are not receiving any phone calls from my number.  they blocked me.  It must be a scam.  Do not even give them your name.

I just received several calls from this same company.  They are now calling from area code 619.342.3715.  They have now called me six times in a row.  They are stating the same thing.  That I owe money to a company called InstaCash - who I have never heard of.

When I asked to give me more information about the loan, I was told that "since I borrowed the money, then I should know when and where the transaction occurred".  THIS IS A SCAM.  They asked me to verify the last four digits of my social security number and when I refused, they got very beligerant. Like everyone else, the caller has an extremely thick accent and is hard to understand.

I recived a call from this number also from a Rick Taylor or something to that effect.  I hung up on him and then he called and left a message saying do not disregard this message.  It was urgent I return his call in order to avoid further legal preceedings.  I immediately dismissed his call after the accusations started.  I now my rights if any collection agency contacts they must provide professionalism, company name, advisement of my rights and paper proof of a debt owed.  Without these things I immediately dismiss calls and worry.

This is a scam.  Do not give out any information. If you really want to freak them out ask for the Docket Number for the law suit, the name and address of the court where it was filed and let them know that you'll take your chances in court regarding this "law suit" because you'll have a better chance of being treated fairly.

I got one call from them and I'm waiting for my 2nd call - if it should happen.

I received a call from a guy that called himself Kevin from United Attorneys Services.  They said that they are representing Payday Loans and that I owe them $900.  I told them that I never took a loan out from Payday Loans and I asked who it was for.  He wouldn't answer me and he spoke very bad english.  He said that I needed to pay $900 immediately over the phone or a sheriff would show up to arrest me and then I would have over $5000 to pay.  He still would never answer my question as to who the loan was from.  This is a scam!  I took loans out from two other payday loan companies who give out my name to these scum bags.

Consumer Alert: Attorney General warns Kansans of debt collection scam

January 29, 2010 -- Attorney General Steve Six is cautioning Kansas consumers about telephone calls from apparent fake debt collectors who are impersonating law enforcement officers in an effort to extort money from consumers.   Consumers are warned to not submit payments to these fraudulent debt collectors.

When calling, the scammers most often state they are attempting to collect a debt related to an internet payday loan obtained by the consumer, but which the consumer never repaid.  Consumers state they have never obtained such a loan or paid off the loan years ago.  The scam artists have most recently identified themselves as ACS, National Affidavit Processing Department and United Financial Crime Division, but may use additional phony names.  It appears the phone numbers used by the scammers are ?spoofed? numbers, so that the number appearing on a consumer?s caller ID is not the actual number of where the call originated. It appears the calls in question may be originating from outside the United States.

When questioned, the individual calling refuses to disclose the full name or address of the collection agency they claim to represent.  These scammers have been able to provide consumers with identifying information, such as the consumer?s social security number, home address, e-mail address, names of family members and the consumer?s computer IP address.  Since the callers are able to provide valid personal information, consumers may become confused and believe they are being contacted in regard to a legitimate debt.

If the initial debt collection scam is unsuccessful, consumers have been re-contacted months later with the scammers posing as law enforcement officers or officers of the court.  Typically, the consumer is threatened with arrest for fraud or some other fictitious crime unless the consumer agrees to immediately wire money via Western Union.  The fictitious officers strive to frighten and confuse consumers into compliance by using legal sounding terms such as ?We?re filing an affidavit against you? or by stating a lawsuit has been or is in the process of being filed against the consumer.

A hallmark of each scam has been calling consumers repeatedly at their place of employment.  This scam hit home when an employee of the Kansas Attorney General?s Office was repeatedly called both on her cell phone and at work.  Despite the employee?s repeated verbal disputes, the caller refused to provide any identifying information to allow her to send a written dispute. The scammer also continued to call her numerous times a day regarding a payday loan she denied obtaining. Two months later, she was again contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as an ?officer?.

?I denied owing the debt and refused to pay without being provided validation of the debt. I was then told, ?If that?s the case, I will have local law enforcement come to your place of business and drag you out kicking and screaming?,? stated the employee.

?It is important for consumers to know their rights under the law,? Attorney General Six said. ?If a consumer is receiving calls from a debt collection company and believe it is a scam, I encourage them to contact our office immediately.?

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors are required to send consumers a written notice within five days of the initial contact.  The notification should contain  information such as the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed and a statement informing the consumer they have thirty days to contact the debtor in writing to dispute the debt or request validation of the debt. In addition, legitimate debt collectors are prohibited by the FDCPA from making false or misleading representations, such as the consumer has committed a crime, implying nonpayment will result in the consumer?s arrest, or using the threat of violence.

More information is available on the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf.

this is second time that they have tried to get money from me. They pretend to calling from a law firm and want you set up payment arrangement on legitimate accounts that you have with other creditors. It's a scam...they are getting you information from other agencies. He said his name was David Reid this time....same number as before though. I just ignored it....I did report it to California Attorney General office and the BBB.

I just received a phone call at work from a guy from this number and he left a message.  Very thick accent.  I have received calls from this number before and told them I know they are a scam, it is very well known they are a scam.  They stop calling for a while and then suddenly they call again and try to leave theatening messages.  I have contacted loan companies I have dealt with and they said it is a scam that they have heard of too.  I am getting really tired of this, does anyone know the proper authorities to report this harrassment to?  I would think there'd be some kind of authority that could put a stop to the scam, especially since it is known to be a scam.

I got the same calls today I didn't answer when they called my cell they left the same exact message saying if I or "my attorney" didn't call back he could only wish me good luck as the situation unfolds on me. But then they called my work! so of course I didn't know who it was so I took the call and he wouldnt tell me anything what company he was from, what it was for, just telling me I should get an attorney or something very very bad will happen to me on Monday at eleven A.M. and he also told me to hold while he got his 'officer' and then it was the same exact voice and told me his name was Kevin. I kept on asking what he was calling for and why should I get an attorney. The weird thing is they had the last four of my social security number! I finally gave up on the fact and told him this; If you don't tell me why the f--- you are calling me at my work? If you do call me at work again I swear I will f---ing press charges. he then freaked out telling me not to curse to him and so I told him I will do what I f---ing want and you are going to tell me what you are calling about or I will hang up the phone. He said I dare you to hang up. you don't have the guts. So I hung up on him and didn't hear anything for the rest of the day. I don't know what to do or to expect. If they are wanting to steal my identity. Good luck. I can't even get a loan. bad bad credit. Just a crazy experience. Do not answer these calls and go through what I did.

I got  call from this number also stating that I named in a lawsuit.  The reason for the law suit was that I had taken out a pay day loan that I didn't pay back and that instead of sending out and enforcement officer they were contacting me by phone to settle my suit.  They wouldn't answer any of my questions when I asked them to clarify what they said.  They told me all the charges that would be filed against me if I did not comply and that I would be in danger of loosing my house and my job.  When I asked for proof of the loan - he would not provide the information.  When I refused to answer any of his questions he immediately started yelling at me telling me that the enforcer would be contacting me and that I would have answer their questions in a court of law.

I called back (I have caller ID) and spoke to a woman this time.  I did get the name of the company that I supposedly took the loan out:  InstaCash and the date of the deposit 12/28/2010 and the amount.

I believe this is a scam because I have not had any type of business with this company and a search of my bank records shows that there was no such deposit made to my account on that day.  Also, they would not provide me with the contact information of the company that filed a claim against me (they said it would be a conflict of interest to do so), they would not provide me with written verification of the debt (I have not received anything from any one) and they got verbally abusive when I did not comply with their requests and made threats of making me loose my house and job and would hang up on me when I wouldn't cooperate and give them the information they asked.

Thanks for the heads up, Hector. I got the same message and name, Kevin Cooper with an Indian accent. I do have a few things in collection so I was going to call back but now I am not. His message did say that if I or an attorney did not respond to the call, he could only wish me good luck.

THERE IS A SCAM GOING ON. I got a call from this number and they left me a message. The message read that there will be a court judgment put in against my name on Friday and that it was extremely important that I call back. The guy said his name was Kevin Cooper. When I called back he said his name was Kevin Fernandez all of a sudden. He mentioned one of my current loans that was outstanding with a company and that they are putting a judgement on me. I told him that I was in good standing and that makes no sense at all and we should get on the phone with them. He asked me for their number to supposedly resolve the situation and then I could call him back in 15 minutes. I demanded that we call together as it was easy for me to conference the company that his law firm were supposedly representing but he refused. I then called the company I have a loan with and they said my account is in good standing and that this has happened before within the last few weeks. They said that their system is secure but not sure how they got some of their customers information. They told me that they reported them and to not pick up any calls from them.

They said they were United Attorney Services, and the names they gave were Kevin Cooper and Kevin Fernandez. The phone number they gave was 909-436-4472

ANYONE CALLING FROM THAT NUMBER IS TRYING TO SCAM YOU.
