Says his name is Tony Allen and asks for my husband,John. When I ask what this is in regards to, he repeats who he is. I finally just hung up on him. Tried to call back NHC, but no answer.

same as above has anyone called the sheriff dept to report this? I called him back and he answered but was suprised when I called so I know it is a scam thank you all

Yep, had my husband's name right but my name wrong.  As soon as I told him I wouldn't donate money, he hung up on me.

Just answer and hang up immediately. Annoying yes, but in time they'll drop you off their list. If they call back later from a phone that shows private do the same thing.

I too receive a lot of these calls. I do not know people named Private Caller, Out of Area, Wireless Caller, Intersection In, N H C, Logan Ut, Toll Free Caller, Voter Roll Call and the list goes on. My policy now is that I look at the call coming in. If I don't recognize the name or the number, I don't answer or I will answer and immediately hang up.

As far as picking up the donation at ones residence, I think that is so that there is no mail link. Obviously a scam.

Well, they're still at it as of late February 2013; we just had yet another call reading the number 910-763-1178, which traces back to that same FOP Lodge.  They've been calling for years.  And nice guy or not, anyone who doesn't take No for an answer, well, they're actually not very nice at all.  I have heard that many of these "nonprofit" fundraising outfits are actually skimming most of the donations off the top for operating expenses and giving only a small amount to the actual community group.

We've been receiving calls, sometimes three or four times a day, from this number. They don't leave a message. After seeing the other posts here, I wonder if the DONOTCALL list is worth anything at all. Seems like the Sheriff's Department would be concerned that someone is running a scam using their name. Why not track them down and put them in a cell where the phone rings every five minutes 24/7? I'm just sayin' ...

1/16/12 Just received a call from Chris Jacobs from NHC 910-763-9574. He's been calling for 2 years now. Also used the name Larry Brown. It's a scam.

Just had this guy James Bradley call the other night. And like others, he asked for me to leave a check at my front door and they would be by to pick it up. When a guy showed up the next night to pick up the check, I questioned him. He had no answers, was very sketchy and left immediately after I mentioned I was unsure about giving. I got his picture on hidden camera and his vehicle info. I plan to report this tomorrow and let the real Police investigate. My gut says scam!

Oh my goodness!!! I have had such a time with this guy for the past two + years!!!! Cannot get him to stop calling...I've hung up on him, I've tried to reason with him, I've asked him very politely and then NOT so politely to please stop calling our number...nothing works.
HIs name is James Bradley and yes, he is with the sheriff or the Fraternal Order of Police or SOMETHING like that. He will call and the caller ID says "NHC 910 763 9574" - if we don't pickup then, the phone will ring again in 5-6 minutes from "private" - last time we went through this he would even call from his personal cell phone! (That is how I know his name)
My husband answered once b/c we thought it was one of our neighbors...he told the guy he was not available and the guy said, "Sure sounds like (my husband's name), you sure it's not you?" UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! If anyone has any advice about this...ugh!!!!!
This situation seriously qualifies as Telephone Harassment by all accounts that I have researched.

Identified himself with NHC Sheriff's Dept. and collecting money for school projects involving drugs and crime. I said I do not contribute money over the phone.  He knew my last name and street address. If this is a scam, it's a scary situation.

Just got off the phone with him.  First he asked for someone like it's a wrong number.  Then he asks if it's the [correct family name] residence.  I told him no.  Then he asked for me by name but mispronounced my first name letting me know the person didn't know me.  I hung up.

We have been getting calls to 910 763-9574 all summer wit the NHC caller ID. Never answered it. Finally picked up the phone the other day and this guy at the end (deep voice) says he has the wrong number and hung up. When he called again a few days later, I picked up the phone and asked him to please stop calling and he got very belligerent. Then called back twice, in quick succession from a "private" number.

I just got off the phone with the sherrifs office to report this and they supposedly are going to investigate, but frankly, I don't really think they are going to go after one of their own. I may call Ben David's office next (the DA) since this guy is apparently annoying a lot of people. Plus who knows if this guy is just a harmless jerk who gets his jollys annoying people, or if he is a psychopath.

Recd 4 calls today - asking for Mr.... not available, hung up on myself and other family member. Scam!! Verified with PD. Give no info...

The WFOP is A legitmate Fund Raiser For the WPD Shop with A Cop Program. They have been doing this for 14 yrs in the county. I have personally seen them at WalMart with the Kids.James Bradley is A Nice Guy and does work for The WFOP. The 910 763 1178 is the # to WFOP Cape Fear Lodge # 58. If you Have any Doubt call the # and ask to speak with SGT Ed Gibson Treasuer of Lodge # 58.

Seems like there are two Mr. James Bradley.....the latest one is calling for the Wilmington Police "Shop with a Cop" program. Phone number 763-1178, 763-9574. Says he is with the FOP Lodge... Very nice guy, not like the "other" James Bradley who is nasty if you question him or say no. But, calls to the Wilmington Police Recreation Asso. and New Hanover County have failed to confirm the legitimacy of any of this.

This guy called me today and said he was with some law enforcement agency of NHC (I forget which he said).  He was collecting money to send flowers to nursing homes but he first mentioned the drugs programs pre school kids and then it was like he changed his mind.  I asked him specifically if he worked for New Hanover County and he said yes. Often on this type of call, they will say no they're a fund raiser and then I hang up.  But this guy said yes.  So I listened.

The pitch was I should leave a check for whatever amount I wanted at my front door and they would come pick it up.  I said it sounded good and I would help them out and he should just mail me the information.  When he said that made no sense since they were local and clearly it was easier for them to just stop by -- I hung up.

This is a scam.  Someone should report it.

Got a call from this law enforcement group asking for money for baskets for nursing homes and wanted to come pick up the money at my house with a ck saying for deposit only. Would be in my area and can pick up the money.  tried to call number back and it just rings....  SCAMMMMM!!!!!

I received the call too from the sheriff's department. It is a scam.

I received 2 calls. NHC is caller ID He asks for my husband, won't speak to me. Will not tell me what the call is about.

NHC was caller ID same thing guy called asked for my wife, told her i was not home and he said that he would call back......did not want to discuss with me....tired to call number back and it was busy and wanted $2 to get the call through.....big scam...

same thing.  asked for my wife.  told her she was unavailable.  he said it was not an emergency.  i asked again the nature of the call.  he hung up.

Called about a donation to the disabled sherrifs fund. Called the Sherrif dept, no such campaign was in order.
