Very mature. Liberal or not who care. Grow up and I'm not a liberal either but people like you make this country even worse then it already is. And, yes, it is the March of Dimes. However, some times it rings busy and other times it does not state the name of the business when you can call back. Thus, to some people it could be confusing. Rather than lash out try and use your words like an intelligent human being rather than a savage.

The March of Dimes charity, which frequently describes its name on your caller ID as ?MOD,? has been phoning frantically leading up to the Christmas holiday. The ten phone numbers I have seen from them, and blocked since 10/18/11, include 240-210-7121, 410-202-0116, 571-261-0034, 804-234-9034, 914-368-2551, 914-368-2553, 914-740-1892, 914-740-1895, 914-740-1896 and 914-740-1897.

I?d recommend that everyone who receives one of these calls block these numbers or, if you have no call blocking telephone equipment, that you simply not answer the phone.

How good a charity is the March of Dimes? The following description of ?MOD? is from the current Wikipedia article:

The March of Dimes has been described as a bureaucracy that has taken on a life of its own through a classic example of a process called goal displacement. Faced with redundancy after Jonas Salk discovered the polio vaccine, it adopted a new mission, "fighting birth defects", which was recently changed to a vaguer goal of "breakthrough for babies", rather than disbanding.

Charity Navigator has given the organization a rating of one out of four stars based on its financial filings, meaning "Fails to meet industry standards and performs well below most charities in its Cause." It also notes that the president Jennifer Howse was paid $633,132 in 2010.

--- End of excerpt from current Wikipedia article ---

How much money could be left for those who really need some help after paying the March of Dimes president over $600,000 per year and absorbing the expense of the vicious phone call campaign they are putting on just now? Please make your donations locally to a legitimate charity that will spend most of it on those who are in dire need rather than on lining the pockets of the charity officers and other ?administrative expenses.?

March of Dimes is on one of their tears of annoying phone calls.
The numbers so far I have recorded are 914-368-2551,, 914-740-1892,,  914-740-1896.  Each number ,,the caller asks if you would accept a neighborhood package of addresses for your street and send out your own solicitations in behalf of them.   I said no to one number,,,then got calls from the other numbers asking the same thing.
I suppose if they were on my list of organizations I give to,,I would consider stopping,,but I never have given to them,as I have other charities that arent nearly as pushy or annoying.

Common courtesy is a wonderful thing that makes civilized humans sound and look better than animals growling and throwing poop at each other.  Your words are like eating poop, not nice, necessary or even informative.

Received a call from this number - didn't answer.  Called MOD in NY and was told Jennifer Howse was the head of this organization.

WHITE PLAINS, NY, OCT. 18, 2011 -- Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes Foundation, has been elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine, the nation?s premier advisory group on improving health.

Next call I receive, a complaint will be filed against Dr. Howse.

I took this from another MARCH OF DIMES posting with a slightly different number.  I tried it and it seemed to work on the automated end.  The proof will be when the unrelenting calls will stop - but it's probably worth a try.

Call the number back - 914-368-2551 - after a brief 'sorry we missed you' intro do the following:
--Press 1 to get more information
--Press 3 to remove your number from the list
--Enter the 10-digit phone number, including area code
--Press 1 to confirm the number after it is read to you

I was getting calls 7 days a week and sometimes 2 or 3 a day.  Unbelievable.  Taints the image of this company which is too bad.

Automated message stating that whey could lower my credit card rates. Said to press 2 to stop the calls. It went to an agent. Since the discontinuance function can be automated, I assumed they wanted me to talk to an agent to pursue their commercial offer. I indicated that we are on the do not call list for federal and state and that they risk a $5,000 fine for making the call. She thanked me for telling her that and disconnected.

Hey Numb Nuts, if you just called the number you would see that in fact it is the March of Dimes. You must be a Liberal, you know everything without the facts. Quit telling people they are wrong until you have actually done your research.

The caller id says MOD.  I suppose it could be March of Dimes.  Maybe Ministry of Defense.  Makes no difference.  I just let the machine take the call and they leave no message. Requiescat in pace!

Something to keep in mind about all these bothersome calls for surveys, so called charities and even with charity pickups:

Call centers have sprung up in my town that make use of the survey and the charity loophole around the do not call list; they have been a headache for law enforcement, emergency services, neighboring businesses and residential areas.  When I ask any patrolling officer in town about these call centers, they are quick to state their frustrations about the criminal activity that some of these call centers have brought into the area. Several law enforcement agencies regularly visit some of these call centers looking for warrant arrests etc.  I have heard stories from other sources including from frustrated employees that work for these call centers complaining about the drug activity, vandalism of cars and neighboring businesses, break-ins and theft, drinking while on the job, smoke breaks are actually marijuana breaks, drunk driving, very dangerous driving, tons of tossed out litter of empty liquor containers, trash, food etc .  I have heard of stories where the mangers are also involved in criminal activities and have even preyed on their legitimate employees who are simply trying to eek out a living on horrible wages.  Also the operators are untrained in a very high turn around, poorly managed and dysfunctional work environment.

Also realize this when you call a companies? customer service line and get horrible service from the call center that?s been hired by the company.  One time while on a call with our bank?s customer service, the operator was so loopy that it required ending the call and calling again to try and get someone else to help, think about that when you call a companies customer service and the conversation gets odd, off the wall and obtuse ? you may be talking to an operator that?s drunk or on something.  After 6 months of getting a different and wrong answer to our ongoing problem each time we called our bank, we gave up and closed the account.

With so little police left in our town due to cutbacks, they can?t always respond to vandalism and break-ins when it?s witnessed as they have their plate full responding to the major emergencies, this allows the criminal activity free reign, the neighborhood becomes the hood.  Some insurance companies require proof of private security patrols before they will honor a claim due to vandalism or theft leaving the neighboring businesses off guard and uncovered.  These businesses also have the added cost to hire private security or install security systems and monitoring.  Then there are the dangers and headaches to the nearby businesses employees such as their cars being vandalized or broken into.  Some businesses simply give in, pickup and move out of town.

One of my neighbors owns a call center and he requires that his operators are bonded, but I guess there?s no laws requiring this ? there should be.  Right now in my town it seems like anybody can start up a call center and hire questionable labor for cheap without much regulation.

I think our town of ?Bedford Falls? needs to change its name to ?Pottersville?....

The one thing that seems to work best when called repeatedly, quickly pick up the phone and hang-up, that seems to be counted as a ?not interested? and I have found that the calls stop most of the time.  I keep our cordless close by most evenings to do this procedure.
