I received an unsolicited e-mail from a mystery shopping company stating they needed mystery shoppers. It also stated this phone number as the contact number, but the person called themselves Elizabeth Sullivan. It came from the e-mail address: es239351@gmail.com. I received an assignment from them to "mystery shop" a Western Union. They sent me a check for $1,880.00 and told me to cash it right away, keep $200 for my payment, and wire the rest to an individual that they claimed was another mystery shopper who would use the money to carry out their assignment.
This is a scam! They want you to cash the check immediately and wire the money within 24 hours b/c they do not want you to realize the check is fraudulent and by the time your bank tells you it bounced, you will have already wired the money. You will then owe the bank all the money you wired plus fees. Thank goodness I did not cash the check! A legitimate Mystery Shopping company will never send you money and ask for some of it back! Make sure you investigate thoroughly any company! And be careful of doing anything "urgently". They try to make it seem urgent to scare you into doing things quickly! Please pass this on! I am trying to help anyone I can! When I asked this person for the company address for security purposes, they gave me the address of a legitimate Mystery Shopping company based in Dallas, TX who rated A+ on the BBB. So beware even if they are listing themselves as a legitimate company, because they are not! Call the company directly and ask questions before doing anything!

Thank you for posting this! I was extremely skeptical and I wanted to figure out if it was a scam or not. I am going to send my email to the FBI. They have a link where you can. Mine looked just as you described.

The phone number was given as part of a mystery shopper scam. The email addresses used are:
John Lech (jllech77@gmail.com) - this is the alias
"John" also uses: pochia.lee@my.wheaton.edu which is probably a legit email to someone who knows nothing about John. In hotmail I could see that pochia.lee@my.wheaton.edu on behalf of jllech77@gmail.com.
The signature line is:

I believe this scam involves sending a bad check which the victim cashes and then "returns" some of the money from the check for "processing fee" or some other reason. The check will bounce but it often takes a couple days. So "John" gets the money from the victim and the victim pays for the bounce check and whatever other problems result from this.
There are some legit mystery shopping jobs. I worked for a company that essentially provided mystery shopping online. The idea is to shop online or at a physical store and then report back on customer service, and a variety of other attributes of the store and employees. There is very little money that is paid to those who are mystery shoppers in comparison to these scams. Personally I made $15 an hr and would spend about 2 hours for each gig. It was also part time.
I hope this post prevents people from falling prey to this scam.
