They call and call and call, looking for different people, with a system that keeps asking me to leave them voicemail.

I finally got a live person on the phone-she said I was "joking" that I was not the person she wanted. I let her have it up one side and down the other, she said "sir, I won't have you speaking to me like that" and I said, "well that's easy, you stupid b1tc8, never call me again." That seems to have worked

I got a great sales job from Culver Careers, now making well in to 6 figures and more than I ever made before.  Surprising that this many people would be this upset about a service that only calls you and doesn't ask for any money?  I would suggest taking time to talk to them if you are in the market for a job.

Your logic sounds excellent, however, my resume says that I am a PHD and I have been called multiple times by Culver for positions that are far below my "experience" level, this is not imaginary on my part. It seems as though you were defending Culver, which I don't believe was wise in this forum. If you work for them then you need to speak with your colleagues about professionalism because it seems they are just casting a ridiculously wide net as opposed to focusing on key qualified candidates which should be easy to do in the current job market.

Got a call from Christie. Said she was looking for someone with recent sales experience for a digital advertising sales position. Since I graduated with a Masters degree in 2008, I haven't found steady work. Prior to that I was a successful TV ad sales person. Seemed like discrimination against unemployed people--reporting it to the Texas Workforce Commission.

I got a call from "Wendy" at Culver Careers for a job in Santa Fe, NM. She said her private number was: 602.773.0703. I gave her a reason why I left my prior job and she kept pressing me why and basically said that I was stupid for leaving in this economy. She did not care or ask if I was one of the few employees in Santa Fe that shows up for work, on time and is always willing to work overtime. She was very rude. I don't know if she actually works for Culver Careers or not, but she should not be a recruiter.

It's Culver Careers, they are national recruiters.  If you posted your resume on an online job board, they are calling about a job opportunity.

Marie Gutierrez with Culver Careers left me a message that she was conducting interviews today and tomorrow regarding a sales position in Chicago.  She sounded like little hottie so I called her back to ask her out.  She said she lived in CA..which I already suspected from the area code.  I told her to look me up next time she visited Chitown and we could conduct the interview over dinner.  Needless to say, she hung up before we even talked about the position.

Some openings are confidential and they don't want a bunch go UN QUALIFIED candidates to clog their in boxes...or they are firing someone who doesn?t know they are about to be fired and the client company doesn?t want to let them know?..It?s like you want to break up with your boyfriend for girlfriend?you don?t want to put it on FACEBOOK or MY SPACE before you have a chance to tell them first? Would you like that done to you if the roles were reversed?

Those are only a few reason?s why a company may want to keep an opening  confidential?you can go to most recruiting companies website to get a snap shot of account?..are you people REALLY this Clueless?  Please contact your college and get your money back?or if you didn?t go to college..maybe you should reconsider and go back!

I have been a 3rd party recruiter for 14 years. I feel it is my duty to educate potential candidates on what a recruiter does since the majority of the people?s comments on this website are misinformed, clueless or just plain bitter about their lot in life.
In regards to recruiting being a SCAM?.what are we SCAMMING? ?your resume? PLEEEEEEASE? If you have placed your resume on Career Builder, Monster or any other PUBLIC  resume  site  and a recruiter see?s it and calls you?where is the SCAM?
First Fact: When using a legitimate 3rd party recruiting firm..the candidate should NEVER pay any money to anyone? The recruiters is paid by the client company for searching and filling the open positions they have been contracted to fill by the COMPANY?.so how this is a SCAM is beyond me?
Fact two:  The Role of a 3rd party recruiter is to find  candidates that match the job order their paying Client Companies have asked them to fill. The Client Company sends us the SKILL SET  they are wanting us to find that fit the positions(s) they have contracted us to fill.  Each Job order will have different Skills Sets  and Levels based on WHAT the company has asked us for. When a recruiter views a resume they look for Skills, Background, College Degree?s, Leadership skills thru college...ETC ?Based on the Job order given by the company. If they see something on a resume that might be a match?they call the candidate to talk with them and find out more. You cannot tell if a candidate fits the hiring profile you are looking to fill by the resume alone?.you need to talk with them. Now, here is what I do after screening a candidates ?if you do not fit the Job Profile I am looking to fill?I tell you right on the spot..?YOU are NOT a FIT??.If I think you maybe a fit I will send you to my client company and the decision is ?theirs? whether they want me to set up an interview for you or not?Once a candidates resume has been submitted to ?The Client Company? it doesn?t always mean you will get an interview it is up to the Company to let the recruiter know which candidates they would like to interview and which one?s they do not.
Fact Three:  Not every position a Recruiter talks to you about is going to be a fit for YOU or their Client!!!  Finding a career in like dating? It has to be a match on both side  for it to work!  You may really want ?this type of Job? but they won?t interview you because you  ?do not have the have the Skill Set they are looking for?  Recruiters cannot make you into something you are NOT?..we are only as GOOD AS THE CANDIDATES WE REPRESENT. If you are NOT already  Nuclear Scientist or a Victoria Secret Model?.WE CANNOT MAKE YOU ONE?we are recruiters NOT magicians!   If I could do that I wouldn?t be a recruiters but a 30 time ? BIG LOTTO? winner?get it!
What we can do is: Educate you on the job market in your area, talk to you about different industries/companies and types of positions (some you may haven?t even thought of or knew existed), help you put a career game plan together, make resume suggestion,  help you brush up on your interviewing skills and maybe help you get a job!
What we cannot do is:  Create DREAM JOBS that do not exist or that you do not have the skill set for. Look  at it from this point of view: You need a life saving surgery and you have 2 choices for a doctor to perform that surgery and save your life: Choice 1..a well known UCLA surgeon who has saved millions of lives and pioneered cutting edge surgical techniques. Choice 2.. a College Graduate, who majored in Business, was the President of his fraternity and has a REALLY great personality?.which would you choose?    I mean REALLY People?.Live in Reality not Disneyland?Mickey Mouse has a job..do you!
Things for candidates to think about when looking for a career:
Are you being  REALISTIC  in what type of career you are QUAILIFIED for?DO YOU HAVE THE SKILL SET CURRENTLY TO GET THAT JOB or will you have to start at a lower level and work your way up.  Does that job exist  if so, WHY HAVE I NOT FOUND IT? You can tell if you are being realistic  or NOT by this : Action = Results Apply for all the jobs you feel you are qualified for and wait for the results?if you get 20 interviews  and offers from all the companies you applied for then you are being realistic..it you haven?t heard from them..YOU  are probably not qualified and may want to take a ? Realistic? look at what your REAL skill set is. If you as good as you think you are WHY haven?t you found your dream job? Companies should be blowing up your phones with offers?if not..well??.
Just because you have a College Degree or Your Dad told you that you were qualified to make 100K a year ( tell him to pay that to you and see what he says)..doesn?t entitle you to skip to the front of the JOB LINE. When you started College you started as a Freshman  not a Senior ( you had to complete freshman classes before sophomore classes ETC) Guess what..it works that way in the Real World too?. and there are NO GUAREENTEES you will make it to the Senior Level.
A recruiter is a great resource  to help you find a career, job or direction?as long as you understand what the recruiters role is  and what your role as  a candidate is. Happy Job Hunting!

If you re-read the message you'll see that I was talking about Careerbuilder having hundreds (maybe thousands) of recruiting firms...I don't work for Careerbuilder. I do, however, work for Culver Careers, and some people think that it is important to hear from companies on this site. I would be worried if I didn't hear from a company that I was complaining about, it would be as if the rumor were true. Hopefully my comments have helped.

Hi LJ,

Culver does actually rectruit for many of the Fortune 100 Companies, and even some of the Fortune 50 Companies. The reason we can't display them across our website is because of our competitors and our clients. If you look at other 3rd Party Recruiting Firm websites, you will see the same thing across the board - nobody displays them. The second reason is that the majority of our clients require us to keep their openings confidential. Careerbuilder has some great analytical data, including the fact that candidates get an average of 2 more interviews when going through a recruiting firm. We specialize in business-to-business professional sales (Pharmaceutical, Medical, Business Services, etc.), but there may be other recruiting firms that can help you out in your field. Good luck in your career!

Hi Stephanie,

Please forgive us for not seeing this sooner. The reason that you were called at all is because you have a solid background. Our clients only want candidates who meet certain criteria, and Coltley must have thought that you met that criteria. You would be surprised at how many people transition from other fields into sales because it's one of the only careers where you can make uncapped commissions while still maintaining a solid base salary. It is definitely not an easy career, but that is why the good sales reps make so much. I hope that helps you understand why you were called, and good luck in your career! -Culver Careers

Just got a call from Travis at this #. Said he was from Culver Careers.  Following up on an ad I responded to but the company was wanting to hire local.  I have close friends in Human Resources and other hiring positions so know that that is usually the case, especially when the location is somewhere most people would like to relocate to like Florida, so I believe him.  He'd keep my info for other jobs that might open up.  I don't get why so many people are afraid to talk to recruiters.  You're obviously in sales or they wouldn't be calling you but you're afraid to talk to other sales people?  If they approach you with a legitimate job opening, and you're looking for a job, why wouldn't you apply?!  It doesn't cost you anything.  If you don't like the job they're thinking you might like to apply to, just say no.  It's that simple.  Any good sales person knows you should always have lots of contacts and keep an open mind about where your next 'sale' will come from!!  In these times, we all need all the help we can get!  I answer ALL my calls!

Got a call from Matt @ Culver 916-932-2360.  He spoke of a job opportunity that was available in the Vancouver, WA area (I would consider this a suburb of Portland).  He then said that he noticed that I lived in the Portland area and was not sure if he could send me on this opportunity and he put me on hold to check to see if he could.  When he got back on the line I asked what my commute had to do with a job opportunity and he scrambled a response together.  He said that he could not take me out of my market territory and away from other recruiters.  I asked him to put me in touch with one of the recruiters that would be able to assist me.  ON HOLD again!!  When he got back on he was asking about my sales background.  I told him it was all on my resume and that I was willing to answer any questions that he might have regarding my background.  He did not have a copy of my resume and asked if I could e-mail him one.......My RED FLAG went up @ "HELLO"

It's a good thing they didn't waste their time calling you.  "Director" said that CareerBuilder has hundreds or thousands of recruiting firm clients.  He is clearly writing on behalf of Culver.

Judging by the lack of intelligence of yourself and many of the other posters here, I imagine they probably have several good opportunities and you are too ignorant to be able to take advantage of them.

I received a call from them today, and will be calling back to find out what they have available.  If it's something worthwhile, I'll come back here and say it.  If it is not, I will admit that some of the skeptics here are correct.  Even then however, if you are looking for a job and they contact you, don't just take my word for it, because my situation is not your situation.

The real "effing joke" is that many people here are trusting the opinions of people they don't even know without even really finding out what this company can offer you.  Here is a tip for anyone reading:  If you are looking for a job, don't complain when people contact you about getting you one.

I just received a call from a Cassie at Culver Careers. I also got an email from her the night before. I have been contacted by a lot of scam companies lately, mainly since posting my resume on Career Builder, so I didn't pay any attention to the email. I knew it had to be a scam because they are recruiting for sales jobs and I don't have any sales experience- they clearly haven't read my resume even though they claimed to. I fortunately couldn't answer the phone when they called and picked up the voicemail. The girl sounded young and articulate but I still don't trust it. I went on their website and though they claim to recruit for "Fortune 1000 companies" they couldn't list even one on their website. Most recruiting companies would be proud to list their notable clients. After seeing the posts from you guys, I know for sure its not real and won't be returning Cassie's call. Sounds like a headache waiting to happen. Good luck on your job search. Honestly the best way to look for a job is select companies you really like and have actually heard of and apply to their site directly. OR go to Linked In and start connecting with Execs who work for your favorite companies to try to get an interview. With the economy this bad you are bound to get scam calls like this and shouldn't take chances on throwing your resume around public sites for anyone to see.

Dayum... I just received their call. A guy named Michael Lee called and asked whether I am still available in the market. He said he came across my resume on the career builder/monster website (I started to be suspicious). Overall, the guy was not rude or pushy. He was ok and still polite. I am just thankful I find this posting. Thanks!

Just got a call from a girl at Culver Careers.  I wouldn't say that she was rude or pushy to me.  She simply asked me if I was still in the market for a job, and after that, she asked me what job field I am interested in.  When I told her (and it had nothing to do with sales), she simply told me that she's looking to fill mainly sales jobs for now, and that she'd contact me if she came across anything related to what I am looking for.

It is somewhat annoying to get phone calls from random headhunters when I am seriously trying to get my career going, but at least she wasn't pushy or rude.  I do have management level sales experience, so I was pleasantly surprised, and glad, that she didn't try to push the issue.
