I received the same text from number 201-423-4226. IMO, the sender should be REQUIRED by law to send each person who received this text the promised FREE I-Phone 5.

Looks like someone found a place to go with this phone number! Broadway & E. 20th Street, in the Flatiron District of New York City. What's there? The security companies MxLogic and Roaring Aardvark have released details about criminals who use dot-U.S. (.us) at the end of their internet address. Sounds like the good old USA, right? MAYBE! It's just as easy for globe-hopping MFRS to set up a phony .us website with a bogus front address. What do you think?

The phone # (917) 375-8167 shows up in New York City, on a line managed by Blue Licenses Holding LLC, switch#nycMNYBW00T. Map shows the Flatiron District, E. 20th & Broadway, between Union Square and The Museum of Sex, near the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace.

Found: (917) 375-8167 contained in massive SPAM text send-out, promising a free iPhone by visiting website iphone5tester.us. WARNING!  .us  is a URL suffix used in many e-Scams. Possible phishing or other fraud suggested. More information, contact police (yours and theirs), phone carrier (yours and theirs). Also the FCC, the U.S.Dept. of Justice/FTC,  Attornies General of the States involved, and the FBI. Contact consumer affairs news reporters of broadcast media and consumer/complaint/scam online blogs. Keep accurate records of all attempts. Do not provide your vital information to the suspected callers/texters.  WARNING! Malware (viruses) sent by text message may steal personal info, friends, passwords, calendars -- and track your movements using the GPS chip in your phone.

Hey, they sent me this in a SMS text: "Apple is looking for iPhone5 testers, first 100 users that go to http://iphone5tester.us and enter 7777 will get to test & keep the new iPhone5! Yeah, they sent that same stupid phone number, too. (917) 375-8167.  You all gotta check out these dirty b*****ds around the web. Some websites specialize in scam phone calls, some take Complaints about Rip-Offs. I think a web page can show a map and other info about where creeps can be found. Try it!  ;)

OK, you might try sending a copy of whatever crap message the dipwads are hassling you with. Send it with your complaint to your cell phone provider, to the company whose product they are misrepresenting, and your local cops. This story stinks like the work of low-life scum crooks. You're in good company though, and maybe we can figure out a way to rattle their cage. Or put 'em in one.

This:   www.HubbardPD.org [ &the Cellular Telecommunications International Association (www.ctia.org) advise: "Harassing phone calls can be especially distressing and disruptive. You should be aware of the steps you need to take. Cell phone carriers recommend that you contact the police first because they have expertise in personal safety. Forty-four states now have laws that explicitly include electronic forms of communication within stalking or harassment laws. (www.ncsl.org/programs/lis/cip/stalk99.htm)."

[CELL PHONE TEXT MESSAGE SCAMS are also illegal! They are regulated electronic communication. "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU WON [an Ipod, a $1000 Best Buy Gift Card, &tc]" are typical lures sent to you by VOICE CALL or TEXT MESSAGE. "Sexy" come-ons and "Friends Looking for YOU" are also common. Experts warn, you should NEVER Reply to a suspicious text, nor call their phone number. Replying by text could activate viruses which attack your phone & steal your private information. Your GPS can also give away your actual location at any time. Calling the suspicious phone number would provide potential criminals with verification that you are reachable.]

In conclusion: "You should file a report with the police department. This is important to ensure that you can get a subpoena. A subpoena is a court order demanding the production of evidence.

Some cell phone carriers have corporate security divisions that will work with you to stop the harassing calls. You should call customer service.

You can also consider filing a civil suit. Subpoena the information from the phone carrier as part of your lawsuit.

Unlike land-line" phones, you may not able to block calls to your cell phone. Record the date, time, and description of each call, and save any messages you receive. This information is essential evidence in helping the police and the cell phone carrier investigate." Protect yourself and the safety of others!

It's a promo for SampleRewardOnline.com.  For "joining" and spending way more than the cost of the things they want you to buy, they'll send you an iPad2.  The obligations are just awful.
