This sounds so much like the calls that I get all day.  And today -- April 14, 2014 -- has been an experience.  Am happy to know that I'm not the only one.

Guys calls and asks for "Chris"- we have several so I ask for last name- he gives one, and follows immediately with "is he in?" I ask who is calling and he replies "Philip", I ask what company and he replies, "HP, is Chris in?" I ask what he is calling in regards to and I get "HP storage" so I ask "what about HP storage? Did Chris request the call? Is he expecting your call?" I get "is he in his office?" I laugh and reply "I asked you a question, what is this regarding?" he replies "Storage" (seriously?!?!?) so I say "I can take a message- would you like to leave one?" his reply is "oh?! he is not in his office then?" I answer "he is in his office but he is not available. what is the message" and then he tries asking for an email address. I tell him that I am not giving his email address out and if you would like to leave a message you need to do so with me and IF he is interested in what you are calling about, he may return the call" The guys says they are inviting him to a conference about HP storage and gives me a number that does not even come close to the number that shows up on the caller id on my phone. Im glad I could waste about 5 minutes of his time.

Got a call from a lady claiming to be calling from Sheraton Hotels in California asking for contact information to send promotional information. Called # back and got fast disconnect. Appears to be fraud.

Calls here often but never leaves a voice mail.  VMware does not have any offices in that area that I can find.  They are in Polo Alto (650) area code.  This has scam writen all over it.  If you're legit, why is the number unlisted?  And how is it so important you talk to me that you need to call every day, but not so important you need to leave a message?

Calling my office phone several times daily. Very annoying!

I called back and received a message that "The mailbox for extension 2017 is full"
No company or name given in voice mail greeting.

I'm a technical staff guy at a large systems integration firm.

Called and knew my name.. Asked "Is this Al ...?"  Then connection dropped.

Mmmmm, intriguing isn't it? Sometimes it is the mystery surrounding an unknown caller that makes these calls so much more captivating and tantalising. In our modern society, we expect and demand instant access to accurate records relating to the owner of a telephone number with just a click of a button. Often we forget that the suspense and evocative allure of a mystery caller is created by the very fact that they remain unknown, illusive, unidentifiable and teasingly just out of reach. I think this is one of those cases where the 'not-knowing' will reward the most.

got a call from this number on my cell phone...they did not leave a voice mail message.
when i called them back, i got a recording that said, "the person at ext 2017 was unavailable...(blah, blah, blah)"

I get many calls from this # on our switchboard and the caller always asks for various sales people in our IT sales department.  I asked the caller a few minutes ago what company he was wtih and he said "VM Ware".  We do business with VM Ware and so I asked him if he worked directly for them or was calling on BEHALF of them.  He said he works directly for VM Ware.  As annoying as they can be, I think the call is legitimate (for our company, at least).

They are calling me multiple times a day.  They don't know my extention, so they ask for me by name, but they never leave a message (and I never answer it).

Got the call on my office number. Didn't answer with no voice mail.

Called my work number and then my cell this morning at 7:45am.
