I receive several calls a week from this number and other 940 area code numbers, Caller ID says they are from "Alternative Res"

Starting February 5, I began getting these same, annoying calls on my three 800 numbers, all from a series of numbers with the same Caller ID - "Alternative Res." Each time I've answered, there has been a fax tone. Apparently this jerk is trying to send faxes (for free) to any 800 number in the land he hopes might be connected to a fax phone.

The calls have been placed by the following numbers ...

940-383-4271
940-382-3048
940-387-0918
940-891-2859
940-565-6538
940-891-2706
940-591-6783
940-566-1852

This person is obviously using a fax-broadcasting service or software,
and I believe such services allow you to enter ANY "sent-from"
number, presuming it to be a REAL number. He could be picking
numbers out of thin air to try to avoid getting caught. The fact
that EACH call I've gotten has come from a different purported
number tells me this is the case. The perpetrator might well
be in an entirely different location than 940 (Texas).

I hope someone has an idea about how to track down this
person, file the proper complaints, and put a stop to it.

The call was dropped when my answering service picked up. It may have been a phone bank or a spam fax call.

Denton, and areas near Denton and Dallas, harbor a nest of spam FAX operations. The Attorney General should take notice of this, it is a very pronounced, and apparently localized problem.

It may be associated with reported illegal phone banking out of the same area, though that connection is inferential, and I have no direct evidence of it.

I am tired of this call being placed to my 800 number and not leaving any message.  It has happened several times.  I have blocked the number but I guess I have to block it more than once.
