Fed up with these calls 2011-06-06 21:07:38 Unknown
At times there is a message on my home number- a part of a message about a car warranty. Today, I received a call on my company cell phone, I answered and again it was about a car warranty and how it was about to expire (I have 3 years left on my warrant). Anyway, I push the 1 key and get a live person, who answers "warranty services". Asks for my name, but before I provide it, I ask the name of the company, again Warranty Services. I ask for what car. He says the last car you purchased. He doesn't know the make, but is certain it is expiring. I ask more and more questions, where the company is, what area code is this from....he hangs up. I call back and its a recording to remove from the call list. Not sure what this is, but now I will have to look at my cell bill to ensure it wasn't one of those long distance scams that connect you when you push a key, as a form of permission for someone to use your phone line for long distance or overseas calls.

today was the second time i recieved a call from this number, the first was two days ago, and i answered listened to the recording warning me that my warranty was about to expire and this was my last chance, and to press one to talk to a rep, or two to be removed from the list, but I was imediately patched through to a representative before i could even press any numbers, the lady asked who i was imediately and of course i went into the "who the hell is this and what company and how did you get this number" speach and then my phone died, thank goodness. But today i just hung up. i want to know how these companies get a hold of private numbers??? my husband and i have our home phone on the do not call list, i shouldn't have to put my cell phone on it seeming as it is a freaken private number!!!!!! from what i have read and understand this number origionates from the state of california, I AM FREAKEN CANADIAN!!

I also received a call from this number, and ended up with half a message on my machine about a car warranty. Funny... my car is in my mom's name. Even if it was legit, there's no reason for them to be calling me, especially on my cell, for which I don't give out the number.
LUNE 2011-06-06 21:07:38 Unknown
this is crappy,,,
im a Rogers customer,
i think some Rogers staffs sold our numbers to third party to earn $$$...
dosnt everybody think so?
LK 2011-06-06 21:07:38 Unknown
Ditto re: all the messages above. I am also from Canada, have a Rogers cell phone, and constantly get calls about my car warranty running out...even though I still have 4 YEARS left on my warratny!

It's pretty simple to get your number. If you sign up to the do not call registry, you phone number is basically available to everybody who wants to sign up as a business. For those with unlisted numbers that are never given out. It's very trivial to write a software program to call every possible number combination, eventually your # will be called.
sambucaman 2011-06-06 21:07:38 Unknown
didn't recognize the # so I assumed it was a telemarketer. I don't answer area codes I don't know

Just received a call from 1-949-256-9179 on my new business cell (3 days old). I work for a large Oil & Gas company and this is the 4th call from this company in California. They never leave a message. My husband has also received calls on his cell regarding car insurance. We choose not to have a vehicle because of the Economy and haven't had one in 4 years (saving for retirement), so why would they call us saying our insurance is almost due. Ha ha ha ha...... I have free long distance calling for anywhere in North America from my home phone, so guess who I will be calling all weekend. Why don't you all join me and lets make a weekend of it. Then we can see if they call again next week. We can possibly tie up all their phone lines. I am at the moment calling from my personal cell and all I get is a recording. They will not speak to anyone and there is no way to reach a person. But, I am going to continue calling that number until they disconnect it. Hit redial you have nothing else to do.

I just got another type of call saying that I am over due on my credit card for playing high intrest. The number was 1 888 111 1111.

These calls are coming to not only Rogers phones, but also Bell and Telus. I was at friends house last night and the same call came into their Bell home phone.

I got a call this morning. I hung up after "this is the second notice that your car warranty is expiring..." I got a similar call a couple of weeks ago from a different number.
I have been getting an average of one call per week over the past few weeks about the car warranty and other things like your phone number has been selected to receive a prize...yadayada. These calls are on my cell phone and I never added my cell phone to the Do-Not-Call List.
My home phone is on the DNC list and the calls have dropped off considerably. I got two calls today, on my home phone, which I did not answer, but I think they were from a political party which believe are exempt anyway. I think these calls are random or cycling through ranges of phone numbers. Coming from outside Canada, not much you can do about it.

1-949-256-9179; They keep calling to tell me warranty is expired on my vehichle and that I can buy additional coverage. Turns out if you select any option from the automated attendant it gives them a back door pass to your information on your hand held device.

I have asked many times from my cell provider and my home phone provider the following question. Why support "do-not-call" information at all? Why do you now allow the phone manufacturer to create some code in the phone (after all, it is JAVA based) that would allow people to see the number coming in and then on the phone press **d or some other combination of numbers to put that number on a list on your phone that would ignore such calls ever again without you having to lift the receiver.
The answer is, "we cannot do that" but I know the reason. They get $$$ everytime that you use your cell phone so they are unwilling to invest in the update.
In addition, if you are going to use any phone, your name can remain secret but the "PRIMARY" number by law needs to be displayed. Also, make it illegal to use computers to dial. We've got to take control of this market.

The area code 949 is california based... 900 numbers are used by scammers to defraud the recipient of $$$$. Computer criminals have used premium-rate numbers to defraud unsuspecting Internet users. SEE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premium-rate_telephone_number

Same number has called me three times this month. How do I get on their 'do not call' list?
London, Ontario
AnotherPissedOffPerson 2009-01-31 17:19:08 Unknown
This is for all the Canadian writing on here who have subscribed to the do not call list or never gave out your number. The reason why they are calling you is because these people have got a copy of the do not call list published last September.... See these people are not allow to call in Canada, but the law does not extend beyond the boarder... Thus they have your calling info, name, etc.
