Prank Call
Got a call from these guys that essentially told me that I was going to be arrested and I proceeded to tie up their phone line by calling and just hitting random numbers repeatedly and I got them to block me!

I work as a phone operator for a large company.  This phone number began calling the switchboard repeatedly.  At first I thought it was a prank call because they do not start speaking until the line has been active for at least 10 seconds.  Finally I heard someone speak and with the Indian accent I knew right away it was a scam.  I googled the phone number and saw that it was a scam and called the number back.  I have a tendency to be hostile with these sorts of callers, so I told them it was inappropriate for them to be clogging the main incoming hospital phone line and that they needed to remove this phone number from their lists.  They agreed and hung up.  Immediately after terminating the call I got another call from them.  I waited until the line clicked and spoke to the man who called and told him that they needed to remove the number from their database, that this is a main hospital line.  The man became very hostile with me demanding to be transferred through and claimed that he was not a solicitor or creditor etc.  I hung up.  He called back and the other operator answered.  She did the same.  Next call I simply placed them on hold for a few minutes.  They have finally stopped calling.

They weren't even calling for me, I just can't stand scamming jerks like this!

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

A David Johnson with an east Indian accent called me on my work phone and stated my last for of my social.  He stated that I had a legal action against me.  I hung up the phone.  He called back and asked for me.  I said I wasnt available and he asked me to take a message which I said yes.  The guy told me I would get arrested tomorrow if I didn't call back.  Believe me when I say if the police are going to arrest you, they dont call first.  This just happened 10 minutes ago.  I googled the number and saw all the comments.  Dont believe the hype.

A "Brandon Scott" said that there were criminal charges being filed against me. I told the caller "Brandon Scott", who had a heavy Indian accent where he was calling from and he said the law offices of "Allen & Wright" located in Minnesota. I let him continue and after he was finished I said he was committing fraud and that this call is a scam, he replied with: "fine....you'll be arrested" and hung up. I wish there was some way we could get these guys.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I got a phone call today.  The person identified themself as being from a law firm and said his name was James Wiliams.  I laughed because he had an indian accent.  He got preturbed that I laughed and asked me was I laughing at him. I begin to ask him questions and he wouldn't answer them.  I called back and asked for a name of one previous time they called.  I have been called at least 6 times by 6 different numbers.  It is really funny that when you ask for the name of a person who has called you before they pretend to go find them.  These are the numbers I have been called from and they all have the same mo - 417-218-0805, 620-953-4488, 409-299-8784, 315-636-0475, 315-282-5848, and most recently 952-777-3610
