HI. Got a little more information.
The person who called me identified himself as ( I kid you not!) "Fitzgerald Hemingway."
It just so happens that I am a fan of both Fitzerald and Ernest Hemigway, with a good sized collection of their writings and others in my library.
This took little imagination on the part of the person who called to come up with a so blatantly spurious sounding name, that I actually snickered when I heard it on my answering service.
This fool sounds oh-so-professional and even wished me a a "good day and good luck" on the phone record.
The best day of my life would be to see Mr. "Hemingway" sitting in a small dingy in the middle of the ocean talking to a fish, as in "The Old Man and the Sea." It would serve him right. Ciao'!

This is exactly what they did to me. I was not home when they called me and the call was left on my answering machine. I called the locals here in my town and they sent over an officer to talk to me. We both researched the number and found that it was in Irvine, Texas. It showed up on the Google Map as being located in the middle of the Trinity River Reserve outside of Irvine.
IMHO, THEY (i.e., the caller) should be placed gently in the aforementioned river with a couple of bags of concrete. This might stop these guys. ROFLMAO!!

I got a message from a guy saying he was going to serve me a summons with paperwork. It's not real. It's the same debt collector that has been leaving harassing messages for years. If they want to serve me, then show up. Until then, I dont believe it

Leaves a message on my cell, recording, that a claim is being file against my social security number but they don't leave a name of the person that they are trying to contact. Either they are just phishing for people to scam or they have a wrong number for debt collection. very annoying, will block on my smart phone, but that doesn;t help the next person that actually gives them information .

I've been getting these calls from Irving, Texas from a Thomas Wittaker. Same as John who commented above. SSN and this last time he didn't mention that just that they'd serve me in 24 hrs. The number they call from is different from what they want me to call. They call from 972-916-9061 and say call 866-247-1327.

I'm on my second call from this number (972-916-9061), but I haven't returned their call. They told me that a claim was going to be filed against my SSN if I didn't call in 24 hours. They left a number to call (866-401-9455) with a persons name. It sure sounds fishy to me because they didn't even use my name or anything other information about me and I think they just want to see how much information they can get out of me. My caller ID had them in Irvine, TX.

This call is from a city in Texas "Irving".  I called the policy in Irving TX and they cannot do anything because I am not in Irving TX.  My local policy told me I have to call the policy in TX.   I called later the State Attorney and they cannot do anything either.  I was referred to State of Agriculture and Consumer and/or FTC or FBI www.ic3.gov.
This last resource is the correct one.  So many calls to find out where to file a complain for a fraud.

I just received a call from this same number and I was giving a 1-866-401-9451 to cal back in reference to papers to be serve to me and/or a debt I might have with a Company they represent.  It looks very fishy from the moment I answered the phone.
I called back and it was even worst, I do not know how people can fall for this.  They new my phone number, didn't want to give me more information so I hand out, I received another call and they have my last name correct but were clearly fishing for a first name, but were way out of the scope.

I do not know what else to do to stop this people, they should be in jail, without access to phones.

It is a scam, my DA's office told me to take all info. to Sheriff's Dept and file charges.  They even gave me the legit number to county clerk but when I called the clerk today "when they were open" they said there is no case against me and to call the DA.  I am turning it all over this week and hope they get what's coming to them.. They told me they were with Cash for Me now or something or other.  Found them on FTC site where they were in trouble in 2011.  They are impersonating officers of the court and the sheriff's dept and in Alabama that is a felony.  My only hope is that they end up in a cell with a "nice" cell mate who likes liars and thieves.  phone numbers so far are 972-916-9061 , 866-247-1327, 321-632-8549, 775-200-1525, 716-608-4395.  As a consumer attorney told , welcome to the world of payday loan SCAMS.  Turn it over to your local police after you get all contact info you can from them then tell them if they want to serve you, you'll meet them at the police department to accept.

This number keeps calling looking for someone with my same last name. Everytime they call, I call immediately back and ask them to remove my number from their system. They have argued with me each time and refuse to remove my number saying "they'll see me in court" with the person they're looking for. They have even gone so far as to refer to me by that person's name. I ask to speak to a supervisor and they say they are one, and hang up on me. How do I get my number removed?! I was pretty sure I signed up for  the do not call list ages ago...

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

It's a scam.  They hope to scare you into paying them money without asking enough questions to figure out what's happening until it's too late.  Don't answer, unless you just want to mess with them, but don't give them any personal information, and do not send them a single dime.

Same here - claim against my SS.  I did call them back - but from a different phone.  They asked for my number - gave them the number I was calling from (not my cell phone that they called) - Female on the other end said it was a wrong number.  I am still getting the calls on my cell phone...I just ignore it now.  I am planning on reporting this to the SS Administration.

Today I got a phone call from this number with a call back number of 866 401 9455
In the past week alone I've received 4 phone calls and messages of varying degrees of threats. Today's phone call sounded recorded and indicated that there was  case against me and that I needed to return the call within 24 hours. My friend got a call from a completely different number but with the same call back number and they said they knew her social security number. That phone call involved me as well because the man threatened to sue my friend because he didn't know my whereabouts. Um...I don't go anywhere. Where could I be? I don't get any mail from these debt collectors either. I'm changing my number and hoping to speak with a lawyer.
I'm frustrated because I have my credit report and there is nothing at all suspicious so I don't know why I keep getting calls about debts I don't have.

972-916-9061 keeps calling me and leaving a message on my cell phone with a different excuse each time.  This time they said I had a filing against my social security number and I need to call them quickly.  I have now blocked that number on my cell phone.  Apple's latest software update lets you do that now.

So they called me again, and I called them back actually. It ended up being that they were looking for someone else and that my number was associated with that person. I told them that I didn't know him and they removed my number. So not sure if it was legit or not, but I haven't heard back since. This was a month ago.

Yea this is scam.  These people actually called me prior today saying that my uncle had a warrant for his arrest which was total bs. When my uncle called these people wanted him to transfer them 900 through Western Union.  He told him he was not going to and said to meet him at the FBI location here in Houston if they wanted this payment. .. they hung up.  We called the number back and it was disconnected.  And now they called  today trying to pull the same stunt.
