I live in Newfoundland Canada......for the last 2 days the number 274-790-0213 has been calling me. I answered and no one talks..........anyone know who this is?????

I received a call from  274-790-0188 this afternoon, since I didn't recognize the number I didn't answer it. I tried calling the number back and thought maybe I could caught the name of these people but all I got was this number has been disconnected or no longer in service message, so I googled the number and found this site.

None of the numbers we have received calls from, are mentioned on the webpage you are referring to.

They are definitely from criminals. It's a hoax, no doubt about that.

Obviously they often call Norwegian numbers, since we are supposed to be so naive.... We might be innocent and perhaps naive, but we are not stupid. Stay away, do not get fooled, and if you pick up the phone, tell them you will report the call to the police. That usually keeps the hoodlums away.

A man that claimed to be from microsoft/windows called knowing my last name, telling me that i had a securety issue and that my computer where currently downloading infected files.
At this point I was thinking Nigeria scam and told him:

Me: "If im downloading something it is deliberate"
Him: "No sir, this is not deliberate."
Me: "How would you know?"
Him: ".... these files are infected, can you please turn on your computer sir?"
Me: "Where did you say you where calling from?"
Him: "I am calling from Windows headquarters in Edinburgh."
Me: "No, you are not, youre areacode is not from Scotland"
Him: "Well our companys headquarters is in the United States"
Me: "I thought you said your headquarters where in Edinburgh?"
Him: "....."
Me: "I hate to break it to you, but I don't think I am that "fraudable" "
Him: "No sir, this is no fraud"
Me: "Better luck next time"
Him: *sigh*

They called me today 5 times and it sounded like an hoax so I informed the local police in case there was a bigger fraud liga, they have now made a report on it in case other citizen are calling them about it again. the number was from 12747900186. First he said it was a UK based company but when i asked about their number it all in a sudden was i US company based i Maryland. However (274) is the state code to Pennsylvania. He told me that he was to guide me through some kind of anti virus thing on my computer. But when i told him my computer was taken care of by my company i hurried himself to end the call and blamed me for not telling him this straight away... I live in Norway and have never ever used american services before and mostly you get services from regional european companies not from any main office overseas.

Nice to see I'm not the only one here. I have counted over 20 calls from these numbers since May and they have exactly the same story to tell. They state they are from Micosoft service and want to check out virus on the computer which I guessed immediately was a scam. The first couple of times I told them I worked for a company with 25000 employees so they could just get in touch with my IT department - they just hung up then. Otherwise I have just hung up but when they have called home and my kids have answered it has worried them which I don't like. On one occassion, because I was feeling like playing there game back to them I let the guy go through his whole spiel, check through various sites etc. and let him tell me that my computer was full of error messages that needed correcting - a quick check with our IT department confirmed that this is totally normal! Having kept him hanging on for a good while and then handing me over to his supervisor who would "connect to my computer" I think I really upset him by telling him it was a works computer with no possibility to connect to - he then hung up. Since then they have called back twice so it didn't help.
I also live in Norway - why are they targeting Scandinavia?

They have calles us many times the last months and say theyare from Microsoft and that they will check if our computer is effected by virus. Can enyone stop this nonsense!!

I also just got a call from these guys. The number was 0012747900213. Since I don`t know anyone with that kind of phonenumber, I didn`t answer. If someone got the oportunity, take an air horn and blow it in to the phone. These guys are probably using headsets, so it would really blow their brains out.

I have received severeal calls too, and I got the same story as mentioned above. I started to laugh at him, I found what he said quite amusing - I think he was a bit confused.
Anyway, I told him to scam someone else and hung up. Hope they're not calling again.....

I live in Norway and I have recieved several calls from number +12747900184 and +12747900213 since 20.07.11.  I have only answered once, and I did not hear anybody. It was quiet, so I just hang up.

Same history here. A man presentinghimself as Alexander Dice  called us today and told me that he was from the service provider of Microsoft.... I didnt believe him, he got annoyed and I hang up.

I live in Norway, and for two days now I've been reciving A LOT of calls each day from these numbers. I never answer any suspect calls, so I just let the phone ring. It became quite anoying after the seventh - eight call the first day... From early morning til late evening... I searhed the web, and found this page. Thanx, to all of you, for sharing :o) After reading this page, and the phone rang AGAIN, I pushed the answer and the hangup button at the same time. And I think it helped!! It's five hours ago, and the phone has been quiet ever since...

I've also received this call twice from +12747900193. Last time about 1 1/2 month ago where I told him I'm not interested because I work as an IT consultant myself and deal with my own security.

Today I got another call from a "cracky line" saying he was from something called PC Lake Support, and he wanted me to run some scripts on my computer to make sure I wasn't affected by the new viruses. Yeeeaaaaaaah right!!!!!!         I told him I'm pretty sure that it's him spreading the viruses and I'm going to report his number and company to the Swedish Police.

Last time I google'd the name and number I came up empty but today I did it again and found you guys.

I can say this, I'm 99.999999999999999999% sure this certainly is a scam and Microsoft would never hire another company to "check up" their customers windows installations. DOH ever heard of Window s Update????      That's probably a better way to close security holes than having an external company calling you and trying to make you run their scripts *lol* ;-)

I have received several calls from these numbers but i have never answered since I do not have any friends in the Usa. And I have heard about scams where they phone you and hang up when you answer. If you return the call you pay because its a number where they get money from the callers. Today i searched the web and found this page.

They have called me twice, and the last time from 12747900210. The same story as above. The caller tried to convince me that my computer was infected, and that he would help me for free. Definitely a scam! Tell the guy you don't have a computer and hang up!

From the Netherlands: this is the second time they called me. The first time (end of May) they told me the same story as Cato wrote. I told them that I didn't trust them en then they hang up. This time I reconized the number en didn't pick-up the phone but I;am sure they will try again.  Searching on the internet I found this site. What can we do against this terrorist phonecalls?

I'm another one being pestered by the "Indian/Pakistani-sounding caller about computer security. I answered once and said I was not interested but the following numbers call several times each day:

They have also been calling me "regarding my computer" almost 20 times since june 22 using this number and below numbers. Last time I mentioned, I would contact the Police, if they kept on calling me, as they asked if I was a specific person (one from my family not living here).

The connection is quite bad and they are unnatural slow in replying conversation - too slow to be belivable as a support unit! I wonder why they don't hide their numbers...?!

Denmark

I live in Denmark and just got a similar call from this number. The person had an Indian or Pakistani accent. They stated that my computer had downloaded harmful software and offered to help me through a scan. When I asked them to confirm my IP address they refused but offered to give me my computer ID which they then said only the manufacturer would know. I then suggested they email me the instructions, to which they said they were not authorized to send out emails. I replied I was not authorized to tyalk them anymore and hung up.

I am assuming that they would direct you to a site to download malicious software to do who knows what (read passwords, key taps, etc.)  and get peronal information.

They called us too, on my cellphone and home number simultaneously. I didn't pick up, but googled the number and found this site.
