My dad got a message from this phone number with an Indian accent voice.  My dad is an immigrant and does not understand English much.  The man on phone claimed his name Brian saying he work on IRS investigation, tell my dad calling him back.  I don't know what the organization is, so I google it.  Now I found out this is scam.  Thank you much for reporting these scam, so others will be careful with strange  phone calls.

I got a call on my cell phone this afternoon from this man with a heavy Indian accent sounding just like the others have mentioned. He had called my wife earlier today at the house and told her that my IRS account information is not adding up. She gave him my cell phone number where he called and told me that he is from the IRS investigation Bureau and to call 347-722-6328 immediately and speak to a Damon Marshall. I called this number at least a half a dozen times to only reach an automated answering machine with a heavy Indian accent greeting message for Damon Marshall, IRS investigation Bureau officer. I was getting concerned because I just filed my 2013 taxes and was wondering if anything is wrong. Something about the phony accents and the crude messages made me investigate this in the internet and here I am on this site.. I feel much better that I am not alone on this. I hope he does not call back to harass anymore...

Also, I received called from 607-323-3064 this morning and the caller had a very strong accent (perhaps Asian-Indian).  As I don't owe any money to IRS, I asked several questions then the phone was disconnected.  I called back but nobody answered.

A gentlemen by the name of Mike, with a heavy foreign accent, claimed that he was in fact from the IRS, then proceeded to rattle off his ID Number to make it sound official; then informed me that I owed taxes in arrears and it would be in my best interest to make payment arrangements immediately or the IRS would seize my house for the back taxes. I asked him for what year did I owe said taxes and could not respond. I informed him that I did not believe that he was from the IRS and he was a scammer; he hung up the phone. I called the number and he answered without an announcement, it was Mike again, I asked him who I had called, he said the IRS; I told him that it was not the IRS and the he was a scammer. He to me to F.....Off and hung up the phone.

These "IRS" calls have been going on for quite a while now. Today was the height. I had three messages in an hours time. All these days I had been polite to not answer the calls and not respond to the annoying messages, being fully aware(browse and everything you need to know is out there) of what was going on. Today's needed a rough handling. I had noted seven different toll free numbers including a number from Toronto (1-415-251-6327). My immediate reaction was to call back the number, make sure it was the "IRS" and give them a piece of my mind. I called 1-888-705-1251, a female voice answered. She claimed she was the IRS. I asked if Adam Jones was around, "yes" was her response. When asked to speak she said "no". I asked why so? He left me a message to speak with him. She said "its my choice". I took off from there using all foul language. She would not even let me complete. She hung up. I started trying all the other numbers, verified "IRS" and did the same. Then so called "Adam" called me back. I took off in Hindi, he hung up and was stuttering for words. I called back the female voice a million times, she just kept cutting my call. In the afternoon I called again (guess what IRS was sleeping....well, night in India). My call woke her up and she responded "IRS". I gave her a piece of my mind, asked her for her mom's number , told her that they were running a global scam. Guess what? I think they play recorded tapes to make it look real but little do they know that it sounds so stupid.
Here are the different numbers :
1-866-978-5506 No answer
1-607-323-3064 (Adam Jones)
1-855-861-4806 No answer
1-888-705-1251 (lady answered the call. She is probably sitting in India) Adam Jones here too
1-415-251-6327 (Toronto) Someone answered and was putting up a fake id number etc.etc.
How I wish these people can be tracked down and brought to justice. Wasting people's time and scamming innocent people.

Got called this morning. This Indian-sounding guy called himself Harry Smith. That raised red flag right away. But the IRS doesn't hire many Srinivasans so I guess I had to understand the difficulty the scammers are facing.

Prank Call
I just received a message from this number that I was being investigate and I need to call back as soon as possible.  I have no idea what it is.  I called back and the Indian guy said, "you owed IRS money."  The funny is I haven't file my income tax yet.  I asked, "What do you mean I owed IRS money? What's your name because your Indian accent is so strong I barely understand you. Give me your name and I need to consult with the police and/or IRA make sure you are calling from the IRS. Beside, I don't think I need to file my tax to NY number. Then he asked for my name, "your name, please honey."  I said if you called me and left the message I think you already know my name.  But I need to clear your number with the police.  Beside, if IRS calling, why my callerid showed "Unknow Name"?  I hung off.
Please beware of those Indian people.  Also, somehow they called me and asked for a room to rent.  I have thought to find a room mate but they asked for how much for the rent?  I told them $700/mo included everything. They offered to pay me $1000/mo but "are you honest to sign me a check back for $300?"  I told them that, "are you doing money laundering?  I'm not that kind of person...."  3-4 people called even I am not post for ads.... you guys need to beware of those type of people right now, especially Indian and Korean.

Prank Call
My daughter could not understand him so she hung up. Guy with thick Indian accent called back 30 seconds later and said my wife was being investigated and needed to call Gamon Marssall (yes, I asked him to spell it) with the IRS immediately. Couldn't give details. Asked his name, said he was David Brown (really!). Asked where he was calling from, 3 times, he says Scotland. (realllllly?). Asked him what IRS stood for, 3 times again, David says, "sir, just call the number and hung up"

Called the number more for sport than anything. Almost disappointed that nobody picked up.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

My wife received a call this morning at 8:30 from 607-323-3064...someone with a heavy indian accent telling her that our tax accounts were incorrect and he must speak with me. When she asked why we are receiving a call instead of a written notice first, the guy got angry and repeated that he must speak with me. She disconnected the call and called me. Not sure how to get rid of these callers, but seem to happen lot more recently.

This is a definitely a scam, pretending to be calling from the IRS office and trying to get a credit card number.  My wife got a similar calls twice.  The first time I was not at home, but luckily she did not give the credit info.  The second time she gave me the phone.  The guy's calling were rude and pushy with a heavy Indian accent.  The caller threatening me that our assets will be seized, bank accounts closed and a sheriff will when he arrive be at my door soon.  I simply told him that that he is a scamer and I will deal with the sheriff when he arrives at my home.  He hung up quickly.

Five minutes when I called this number latter.  The phone line was dis conned.  So please be careful and do not give these scamers any credit info

I have a call from a person with strong accent claiming himself to be from the investigation bureau of IRS.  He asked me to call his superior at that number to get the details immediately.

I called and talked with the person in charge.  I was told that my wife was under investigation for tax fraud, and he asked me for the name of my attorney because the IRS planned to sue my wife.  They have the rights to seize our assets, cars, money in our bank accounts.  When I asked for specific charges and amount involved, he hung up.
