Doesn't this make anyone mad? Judging by all the posts, this scam is collectively wasting a huge amount our time. How can these scammers maintain a legitimate phone number over all these months? Isn't the FBI looking into this? Isn't there anyway we can fight back? If we did, maybe these phishing scams would become less frequent. I suggest we frustrate them by wasting their time - we should all respond to them with bogus account numbers.

I received a text similar to the ones everyone else has posted on here. The account and bank the text referred to is an account i haven't used in over. 5 years. A sure sign that these lowlifes are a SCAM.

I just got off the phone with Verizon because all the phones on my plan got the same text. I wanted to make sure my acct wasn't compromised. They helped me block the numbers and any future, especially those coming from computers or web based texts, which I think these are. Call your carrier. They will want so they make report it. These scammers are making the texts look like they are coming from Verizon. They want to stop this as much as we do.

If you get a text like this, NEVER call the number!
You could be charged a lot of money on your phone bill just for calling, depending on the scam.
This is the exact text I got today 10/07/2013 at 4:12 pm EST.

imited.Call:[631-789-6669]
It came from 478336@vtext.com
Firstly, I don't have any accounts with this bank.
Secondly, banks don't normally text about fraud. Someone would call you or the system will automatically send a letter in the mail.
Thirdly, notice the misspelling of Alert. And the lack of proper spacing.
Also notice that the first 6 credit/debit card numbers are the same as the e-mail address that the text message originated from.
I've seen similar scams before. Been duped by one, once. (Secret Shopper)
The first thing you need to pay attention to if you are concerned about a letter, text or e-mail being a scam is the spelling. Most scams originate from outside of the U.S. where the laws are very different, or haven't been updated to the electronic age, or just simply aren't being enforced.
The second is where it came from. Is it a trusted and reliable source? Have you dealt with the source previously? Also try searching ALL of the information you have available to you. Name, address, e-mail address, phone number ...
The last is the old familiar saying - If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is (too good to be true).

I got a text from Co-Opservices at 631-789-6669 stating my card (gave an erroneous card number) account limited due to fraud.. call that number, when you call, it's a recording to reactivate your ATM card by pressing 1, then it asks you to enter your ATM number. I blocked the contact from messaging and replied STOP which by Federal mandate they can no longer contact me.

I also got a text from this number. It said [[MobilOilFCU]] Contact: [631-789-6669]. [514541]XXXXXXXXXX]Account Suspended Due to Fraud.
Sure is funny, that Mobil oil is a local Credit Union and that is NOT a local number, and they wouldn't send out a text message in the first place. I'm not even a member of theirs, but figured I'd check on here and see about that number and lo and behold, it appears that somebody in N.Y. has been busy! POS, needs to be strung up by their private parts!!!

This is definitely a scam. I work for Federally Insured Financial Institutions and we see this type of activity often. Never respond to a text message and always consult with your financial institution directly if you have even the slightest doubt.
