It is such a shame that an educated person like yourself missed the exemption clause. I feel no shame in defending a cause/corporation which I know is in the right.

I can see you know some of the facts, but before you go saying that I defended the "party whom was in the wrong," you should read the exemption for the example that you mentioned.

I have referenced the above quoted text (see reference below). Burke, Inc. is exempt from adhering to the National Do Not Call Registry because, as the second exemption clearly states, a company that places ONLY SURVEY calls may be an Exempt Organization.

In fairness 'RM' that response is pretty harsh.  As you seem to be so well educated you should know that the DNC register covers "any unsolicited calls from a business" Burke inc may very well be a market research company and not a telemarketing company, they are still a private company who do business for profit and not for charity.  The Do not call refers to any anonymous calls from a 'business' which even your angry temperament should agree 'burke inc' are.

Some of these rules include personal attacks on other posters,  I deplore your use of 'you moron' and 'ignorant SOB'.

Seeing as the original poster was in fact correct, it appears that both you and Burke Inc both broke the rules.  Its such a shame that you made a fool of yourself aggressivley defending the party whom was in the wrong.

Wow. You're stupid. Do some research before you go blabbing your mouth/typing on your keyboard. I have just two things to say, in response to your idiotic statement. First, Burke Inc. is not a telemarketing company, they are a research company. There is a difference. A telemarketing company tries to SELL you things, in order to get your money, and a research company asks you questions, in order to get your opinions. The Burke Inc. employee was politely trying to explain something to you, but your ignorant-son-of-a-b**** self couldn't keep from blabbing false statements.

This brings me to my second point. Do some F***ing research on the Do Not Call registry. If the following were true: "ANY call to me is a violation of the Do NOT Call federal registry," then a call from your mom, dad, mother, brother, sister, aunt, cousin, son, or daughter would also be a violation of the DNC registry. In which case, you should probably just disconnect your phone, you moron.

The DNC registry does apply to telemarketers, but it does not apply to research companies. Reporting legit companies, like Burke Inc., that have been in business for over 80 years to DNC.gov is a waste of our taxpayers money. It's a waste of money because a government employee is being paid to sit at a desk and investigate your complaint. They are wasting their time on your stupid complaint, when they could actually be cracking down on scumbags who are viciously selling products to the elderly.

These people called me tonight. I answered because I have been getting WAY too many telemarketer calls lately. It seems that there is a recent decision by all of these vermin to simply ignore the Do NOT Call federal registry.

I answered and the guy told me that he is with "Burke Inc" and that he was a market researcher. I stopped him and said that I am registered with Do NOT Call. He said "oh no. I'm not trying to sell anything. I am just doing market research on soda pop." I stopped him again and said "ANY call to me is a violation of the Do NOT Call federal registry. Remove me from your list, and do NOT call again!"

I then reported Burke Inc to Do Not Call.gov

Got a call from them tonight.

Got the call, Caller ID reflected the call @2:57pm EDT, 03/28/2010. Left no message.

I get the same call every night about 7 pm as well from Burke Inc.  Really tired of it, but I am not going to answer

Whomever it is calls later in the evening and they call every day.  We pay for privacy director but when a name or unknown is associated with the phone number, it does not stop the call from going through.  We just don't answer but it is very annoying.

Just got a call at 6:45 p.m. from this company. Someone who talked so quickly that all the words ran together, and with a bad southern drawl accent, ended by asking for the "owner of the house." Being as I rent the place, I said "no thank you," and hung up.

http://www.bernett.com/about_us.html  went to this website and in the upper right corner they have a link to remove "your number" from their call list.  I did so.  We'll see if it works.

Every night at around 7:00 these people call my house. And every time I answer they hang up. Very annoying.

Burke Inc calls me from this number at least 3 times a day.  When I answer to tell them to stop calling, no one is there!  It's infuriating!

Monday: Called Matt Hayes (extension 2703) at Bernett Research Services and left message to please remove me from their call list. He called back and left message saying that he would do so. His message was very polite.

still happening, I am in NC and just got a call from this number too.  called the number back there of course is a recording...it is for a survey company that will continue to call you unless you remove your number from the list.  leave a message that you are on a do not call list and give your number to be removed....annoying I know!

Answered and a man said he was taking a survey and asked if I was the head of the household and I said yes. I asked if he was marketing anything and he said no. I agreed to take the survey but each time he asked me a question I answered and asked him a question (quid pro quo). He asked a few questions about what county I was in, who did the majority of the grocery shopping and how many people were in my household. I asked where he was (he said Idaho) who he worked for (Burke Corp.) and who sponsored the survey (Bernett Research). But very quickly into the survey, I think when I answered that I was the only one in this household, he said I was not qualified for the survey and said goodbye. I tried to take as long as possible when answering the questions, the call lasted just under 4 minutes.

Bernett Research has a web site where they brag that their two call centers can initiate more than 100,000 calls per day.  Their web site has a page where you can enter your number to be put on their ?internal? do not call list.  Since they are a survey company they do not have to pay attention to the national do not call list. I did not enter my number in their do not call list because I think it will be more fun for me (and annoying to them) if I call and ask to be put on their do not call list.

Every night, same BURKE INC.  calls and hangs up.  I called it back and it is a survey company.  They say to leave a message at the tone to tell them to remove your number from their list.  Just leave your number and it will be removed in 3 days.  I did so I will see if it works.

same here,  had call from this on @ 1825;  no answer to softly spoken hello.  i notice if it's an auto number they can't hear it, though a live person would be able to.

i get atleast 2-3 calls everyday from this #.

Almost every night around 7 PM EST, we get 1 or 2 hang-up phone calls.  Mostly we get unknown number on the caller ID but this time it came up as Harris Poll 971-228-5658.
