Two calls in one day - the first a woman who sounded as though she was from India or Pakistan.  She told me I owed money to the IRS and that I, or my lawyer needed to call back. I told her that the IRS would write not call.  She rang off. However, this
afternoon I received a threatening voicemail from a man using the same phone number. He said "do not ignore this call I am from the IRS and you are in deep trouble with them.  The number appears as though it is from Washington, DC but obviously is not.  I reported the call to the Treasury #.  For a number of individuals this would be a very frightening experience.

Debt Collector
My son received a call from 202 -455-4912 this morning purportedly from an IRS agent by the name of Ms. Roberts saying he owed taxes for 2012 and 2013 and he should have his criminal attorney call the number back immediately to avoid arrest for failure to pay these taxes.  The agent spoke with a South Asian/Indian accent and sounded like she was calling from a call center.  After keeping her on the phone pestering with questions about the best process to use to correct the problem, obtaining the case number, asking repeatedly for the process he should use and getting a different answer with each response, I hung up and called the IRS individual tax tel phone 1-800-829-1040.  I've learned to start hitting 0 repeatedly to break the IVR and get a live person.
After an lengthy wait on hold I spoke with an agent who advised my son to call the IRS Identify Theft tel 1-800-908-4490 and ask  how much he owed in back taxes and to relay to them the story of the phone call.  The agent also said he could call TIGA (Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration) to relay the story to them 1-800-366-4484.
Looks like a scam to me.

Prank Call
202-455-4912 called my parents house today claiming to be the IRS. It was a man with a thick indian or pakistani accent. He threatened that if I or my lawyer did not call back there would be consquences. I have not lived at my parents house or listed my parents house phone number on any of my personal information in over 3 years. This is a phishing scam looking to claim you owe money to the government.

I received a call from the 202-455-4912 this morning @ 7am claiming that from IRS. I asked what is his name, he
said that his name is John Davis from the IRS Head Quarter of Washington DC, it's hard for me to believe the name
John Davis is normally an American/Caucasian  and should be speaking English without any accent, and this man
is 100 per cent  accent clearly for India or Parkistan of some kind. He told me that the IRS will be sending the law
enforcement will be at my front door within 30 minute to arrest me if i would not cooperate with the IRS. I told the
man that i will fully cooperate only i receive letter or statement from IRS.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

This number is piggy backing off fake IRS officer calls.  Got calls starting in Rochester NY with some foreign dude claiming to be IRS and saying you better call back or have your lawyer call, and then finishes by saying that agents will come arrest you if you do not respond.  Called about a total of 5 times in a 2 day period.

Next day start getting same message from this phone number in the DC area.  Female sounds like she is from India or Pakistan.
