Received a call from this number that used the same MO as other folks. Came in on a number that is not listed and did not give any details except to say the same things that have been said to others. Hung up ASAP.

Just got the same call. I interrupted him saying the IRS has an over payment of mine. He yelled at me, continued reading the charges, then hung up. Now Magic jack recording answers that number.

I got the very same call, saying it was Officer Hedda Grey with the IRS, and to call before they take legal action!  

Claimed to be the IRS; said I should call back asap to avoid legal action.

This is some coward hiding behind a magicJack device plugged in at some God-forsaken corner of the world where there is Internet service.  He's no better than a common criminal using a magicJack device and your fear the same way a common thief uses a toy pistol hidden in the pocket of his overcoat to make a bulge that looks like a real gun.

This scam has been extensively researched at
http://www.pindropsecurity.com/consumer-fraud ... irs-phone-scam/ and it was found that magicJack numbers are frequently used, and many of the scammers are operating out of India.  There is even an audio recording of a call returned to one of these numbers and a written transcript of the recording contained in links from the Pindrop Security blog.

MagicJacks are readily obtainable outside of the United States for about $100 US and can come with up to a year of free calling to the U.S. and Canada.  In India, see, for example,

So it doesn't take long to turn a profit, even if only 0.1% of the people they call are stupid enough to believe the scammers.

In addition to the regular reporting channels, e.g., the Department of the Treasury, the FTC, and/or your local state attorney general's office, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp.  This is a fully-owned subsidiary of the company that sells magicJacks.  YMAX Corp. is in charge of assigning telephone numbers to magicJack devices.  I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.

This call is a scam ! They want information from you !  IRS only contacts people thru certified mail !

Same here - got a call from the same 2025068062 number and claiming to be from the IRS, requesting to call back before legal action would be taken. After reading this post, I now realized that it was a scam call.

Some woman with thick India accent called, claimed that she is from the IRS and looking for my wife to clarify a few things on her tax returns (problem is, we filed joint returns with me as the primary). The woman left a called back number 202-506-8062 for a person named Mark Ricter(?). This is definitely a scam. IRS always uses written communication through USPS service.

Caller ID is "Washington D.C."  Must be robocall--rings three times and hangs up, not long enough to activate our answering system.  We do not answer calls if we do not recognize Caller ID.

Have received 2 recorded messages from this phone # today.  Stating they are from the IRS.  Same scenario as yours.

Scam.  If the IRS needed to get in touch with you about a problem with your taxes, backtaxes or penalties, they would mail you a letter via USPS.  They wouldn't call you first.

Message claims myself or my lawyer need to call back to resolve my IRS problem immediately.

Recorded message claims to be from Hannah Gray? of the IRS.  She claims myself or my lawyer need to call back to resolve my (non-existent) back tax problem immediately.  This call is from a wireless phone.
