No, it is not real.

As per the Federal Grants website at http://www.grants.gov

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov

If you get this call, please report it to:

No, they do not give you the money. There is no money. There is no such Government Grants Program.  The only purpose of the call is to steal as much money from you as you are stupid enough to give them.

The first call I got was from a number that game up as unavailable. When I answered I was told about the $9200 grant I would receive if I called 202 738 4649 The lady who called me first and the man who had answered when I called the 202 number both had heavy India accents. When I told the man at 202 number, after giving him the ID number that I was skeptical he said a bunch of stuff I couldn't understand he hung up on me. I called him back and he started in again with the same s**t I told him I was recording the phone call he said that was alright he was too said some stuff I couldn't understand and hung up again. Called back a Third time this time no one would answer the phone went to voice mail knew it was a scam now. 30 minuets went by and a scammer named Sam Brown called me back from the 202 number to insure me that it wasn't a scam. I really knew it was a scam when he transferred me to his boss the State Attorney with the heavy India accent to assure me. this is a Scam beware!!!!

I guess you didn't read the other posts here.. Yes its a scam, you actually have to go to the government web site and fill these out for grants. The government doesn't cold call you, nor do you pay a advanced fee to receive one.

To report the fraud, go here:
http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/support/general-support/grant-fraud.html
Their number is listed , along with an email address, at the top of the page.

received a call from 1-730-102       an incomplete number showing up was my first clue it was a scam.  Secondly, if the US Government was giving out grants, that do not need to be paid back for "having paid your bills on time, paying your taxes and no arrests in the past two years"  It would be on the national news and the newspaper headlines......and those whining babies in congress would be filibustering about it!   so...of course I did not call the number and give the code I was asked to call......202-738-4649   give a 4 digit code. and they would tell me how to have the money deposited!

The scary part was he had the city I live in, zip code & current phone # (obviously since he called) but my phone is registered in a town 170 miles south from where I live.  The address is recent since I just moved here as previously I was in a totally different zip code.  He talked I listened. Same blah, blah, blah about free money $9200. Gave me a # to call back to - will it happen...Not this life time. Government $$?  ahhmm HELLO...Government shutdown?  This is a SCAM for sure.  Heads up folks.

I received the same call from a number from a 723 area code.  I could hardly understand the lady with her poor English , but she sounded from India.  She also told me I could use the grant money for whatever I wanted.  Sounds fishy to me.  I have been looking to go back to school and have inquired at several schools online, leaving my phone number, which was a mistake.  I now get calls from all over the US from telemarketers.  I am sure this is how they got my number and why they are using the "Grant" scam.

Got a call saying I would recieve 9,520 in grant money from the government if I call this number. Said I had to go to the nearest western union to make a security deposit of 320 dollars and I would recieve a grant of 9,200 along with the security deposit back for a total of 9,520. The guy who first called me from NJ sounded exactly the same as the guy from the second number I had to call which was located in DC. This is a SCAM. He wanted me to call him back when I got to the western union so he could give me more information. SCAM. I told him not to call this number ever again I wasnt depositing any money to recieve a free "grant" from the federal govenment and that this is a SCAM. He replied "[removed:lang]? SCAM!!!!!
