a couple of days ago a shady girl (looks like shes in highschool) comes up to me while i was at the store and invites me to some shady party...and then some other random lady who did not sound like the girl I met, called and invited me to their "party" I declined, and then she said that a bunch of people(high schoolers) from The 626 were going and that they carpool with college students. she seemed like she didn't want to give out any specific details and stuff.....
but yeah the girl I met looked and talked like she was on drugs or something she spoke super fast...BUT she was not asian .... .-. For all I know they could be druggin kids at these parties....
The girl asked me about my race n stuff....
The lady called me from the 818 number.....they're targeting high school students too so be careful!
These people need to stop like seriously.....
lesson learned...dont give your number to weirdos inviting you to parties on the weekend to "make new friends" just No....and don't go to them if they call you :|

I actually got a call from the 8184340430 number. So glad I found this page. The whole approach from the start was very sketchy, but like a dummy I gave them my number. I decided to answer but not say anything. Genius Dr. Chan thought this was the answering machine, so I heard him say something along the lines of "This is Dr. Chan, call me back." Be safe, all of you! Warn your friends.

So what happened Kevin?

I also got approached by this "Lini" woman at my college last week and she went with the same old routine that everyone else mentioned about asking where I was from, what languages I spoke, etc. I wanted her to go away so I stupidly gave her my number.

Now she and this Dr. Chen guy wouldn't stop calling about this "party". And you could totally tell the guy was very used to his little speech by the way he spoke. I thought it was a recording at first.

Seeing as how this has lasted for at least four years, I don't see them ever stop bothering me. Probably should just tell them to p****off the next time they call.

Ok guys. I'm going to attend the party and tell you how it went. They said it is located near staple center. I told them I was from PCC and that I am a U.S. Citizen. Wish me luck?

I was stopped by some Vietnamese guy who was around 40-50 years of age at West Covina Mall last week. He asked me the same things and invited me to this "party." His number is 213 500 0178. Ever since this incident, I have gotten calls from restricted numbers and 818 434 0430. Just watch out.

Oh my god.

I encountered the same older lady from before after more than a year has passed. She started the same spiel with me asking where I'm from, am I a student, come attend these fun "parties", and etc.

Guess where she was scouting from this time?

Hey guys! Here's a back history of Dr. Chan and the church:

http://www.rlhymersjr.com/Online_Sermons/2008 ... rtedDrChan.html

This is, without a doubt, a religious cult. Going to their 'shady' party is definitely bad news!

I was at the mall buying food with my sister one day when Dr. Chan approached me. He told me his story and how he's from USC or whatever university he is from. I wasn't really listening to what he was saying, but he kept on talking. He asked me what school I was going to, and I was going to a community college, and he was like, "Oh yeah, we have a bunch of people from there that come to our events." At that moment, I knew everything he was saying was a bunch of crap because my CC isn't a place where a "doctor from USC" would know about. He asked for my number as he was about to leave, and I gave him my old number.

Though now, I have been getting a bunch of phone calls recently from numbers I don't know, and thankfully I don't answer to numbers I do not know. But I do listen to the voicemails that they leave me and it's either that Dr. Chan or "Lini"(can't really comprehend what her name is) saying to call them back at the number that they leave. I haven't picked up the phone for them in the weeks that they have been calling. What makes them think I am going to call them back? After reading these posts, I am adding them to the block list on my phone.

These people have no shame. Dr. Chan is supposed to be a family doctor, yet he's going around California community colleges and universities asking young, unsuspecting students to join a party that's supposed to be for college, which, I'm sure many of you on this thread know, is really a cult held in some church. What kind of doctor, let alone a family-doctor, who's supposed to be a family man, do such a thing like this? Clearly a very bored and sadistic one. If he wants people to be inspired and attentive to his faith, he should tell it honestly, not use manipulative tactics and trickery, which is what he and his other members do. Next time he asks you folks what your number is, you should tell him "Oh yeah, my number is '323... F*** OFF'". And if you folks are afraid to do that, simply say "not interested". ^_^.

This is very true, the comments were very helpful. i was approached by a girl. Seemed nice and friendly and all. I have been approached a few times about this. All being different people. Each time i asked about what would be happening there, why it was happening. they wanted to give no direct answers just that they had been doing it for a long time and that it would be fun. it seems i'm the most recent victim. i don;t answer but i am very annoyed and i want them to leave me alone

Right, so got caught by one of their representatives. Didn't catch the lady's name, but her phone number is 818-434-0430. I unwittingly gave her my phone number after she was nosily asking all these questions :\. Questions such as: where are you from, what city, are you a student, etc. She heavily emphasized that there was a party at this church near USC (Baptist LA? or something like that) and all young people, students like me, attend.

Well anyway, sounds sketch.

Excuses you should keep on hand to dissuade them:
- You're visiting from out of town
- You live far
- You're busy all the time (family activities, school [even on weekends and summer], friends, job,
etc.
- They're unworthy of your presence

This is almost surreal to me. I was approached by a young woman while shopping at a mall and she started speaking to me. She asked if I was a student, which college I was going to attend (UCLA), what my ethnicity was (Vietnamese), and then told me about the party in downtown LA near USC sponsored by a church for students like me. She was really friendly, and she seemed absolutely harmless, seeing as how she must've been just 5 feet. She asked me for my name and number, and I gave her both mainly because she had spoken so quickly and I was still kind of startled to be thinking clearly. She told me she was Cambodian and then told me her name, but she had spoken too quickly for me to catch it, but it started with an "S" I believe.

We parted from each other after she told me she'd call me to let me know more information about the party, and I continued shopping--and regretting giving her my number so easily. After a bit, two other young women approached me (both Asian, maybe Cambodian also) and asked if I was a student and which I was going to attend. I answered both questions, and they proceeded to tell me about the party in downtown LA. At this point, I was kind of scared and asked them if they knew the other lady because she had told me the exact same thing. They asked me to describe the lady, and I did, and they seemed to know who I was talking about. They asked if I gave the other lady my information, and they bid me goodbye after I told them that I did.

Right after this, I was really freaked out. I left the store, and that night I decided to go on Google and type in "church sponsored big downtown party in los angeles by usc" for the heck of it and to see if I could find any more information about this mysterious big party. I didn't expect to find anything, so when I found this site, I was so shocked! What the HELL? This is so scary! This took place three days ago, and I just got the call today. I had a missed call from a blocked number because I was out with a few friends and didn't notice the call. But there was a voicemail, and someone told me to call her back at 213-744-1411. I'm not calling back, thanks to this site.

I wish I saw this thread before! I've also been approached by a woman named Marina, Sergio, and two other ladies. I've become so familiar with this one lady that whenever I hear her voice I immediately swing my head to locate her and turn to walk the opposite of where I was planning to go!

Marina just called me (thank goodness I vividly remembered the 1-213 code for her number, and that my voicemail is a guy's -- I'm a girl -- though that didn't stop her from leaving a message).

I was in a rush when Marina stopped me, so I gave her my number. She asked for repeats for my number (I would've been fried if I made up some number! Marina isn't the first person I've been approached by) just to make sure she had my number correct.

The first time Marina called me, my little sister picked up. Bad move. After talking to Marina, she gave the phone to Dr. Chan. He said the same thing as Marina about the "awesome" party and even had me repeat my phone number. I tried to tell them I wouldn't be able to make it cause I'm incredibly busy with activities outside school, but those they just wouldn't take 'No' for an answer! (In the end, I called Marina and made an excuse that I was leaving the state. Ha.)

Anyway, Marina called me from this number: 213-291-7788
but in the voicemail she left, she said to call her at: 213-744-1411

I have never attended any of those "awesome" parties. I don't want to go with strangers, and I don't have the time. Like everyone else above me, I find them suspicious.

And someone above mentioned that they seem to target mostly Asian-looking students. I agree. I also agree that it seems that they get paid to get those numbers. The lady I mentioned earlier (the one I've become familiar with) has approached me at least 4 times in my 2 semesters and always asks for my number each time.

i just got a call from that number 818 434 0430 as well. they want you to carpool to this party, and they stray away from the idea of singly driving to the event yourself. it doesn't matter if they are professionals, religious, etc. make sure you don't give in and get all the information as possible. DON'T CARPOOL, drive yourself there instead. They are frickin persistent.

The number 323 819 5153 also pops up. Note to self, if you have a faith.. wouldn't it be BETTER if you drive to your church, temple, or whatever your religious site should be at? IF YOU NEED A FAITH, YOU SEEK IT.. IF YOU DON'T, WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU WANT TO CARPOOL WITH STRANGERS TO A RANDOM LOCATION?

They were at ELACC, CSULA, UCLA, USC

These are some shady people. They approach people talking about a very vague party, and call constantly from then on. If you they already have your number, ignore them, and block the number if you can.

Got a call from this number about their suspicious "parties" and caller referred to himself as Dr. Chan and talked about how amazing these parties would be in Downtown LA near Staples for young college students to meet other young college students and he kept emphasizing how awesome it would be. They just give off a very weird vibe.

Please read this thread and also be wary of calls from 818-434-0430.

I believe they first received my number from these two foreign Chinese students who approached me on Bruinwalk at UCLA at around 10:30 pm asking if i spoke Chinese...which I do. They then asked for my number and in wanting to brush them off..I stupidly gave my number to them.

Also, Dr. Chan first calls from a restricted number and then proceeds to use his 323 819 5153 number. After I listened to his whole speech, I asked him to stop calling me. He then became upset and angry and asked why I wasn't just straight with him from the beginning.

It was overall just a frustrating experience and I hope I never come across these fools again.

This is really helpful guys. Some guy on ELAC campus stopped me too. I was in a hurry so I just gave him my number when he asked. It was also kind of "on the spot" because he tested the phone number (I had my phone in my hand because I was texting when he approached me). So now this woman keeps calling from a private number, refering to the guy who talked to me. A sergio Melo I think. She keeps insisting that I go, but I was freaked out too because she wanted me to carpool and wouldn't give an address. So,...just be careful.
