I don't think you are aware that legit account monitors never ask for the MIDLLE numbers of your SS#, they would ONLY ask for the last 4. The middle with you date of birth just gave them a way to get you full SS#. Scammers add readers to gas pump card readers all the time and have stolen thousands card numbers. They may have been monitoring those pumps and your attempts and then called you claiming to be BB&T.
You should always tell someone who calls like this that you will call your bank yourself AND DO NOT call any number they give you!
Anyone having issues using a debit card like you did SHOULD ALWAYS STOP and then call your bank immediately.
NEVER assume anyone is out to help you when they contact you, you need to always contact them.

This number is legit. I have a checking and savings account with a bank called BB&T (Branch, Banking, and Trust). One day I stopped at a gas station to fuel up my automobile and I was going to use my debit card as payment. I swiped my card, the pump prompted me for my zip code, input my zip code, and it said there was an error to go inside and see the cashier. I tried twice more to pay with my debit card, each time having to reinput my zip code and continued to get the error. Frustrated, I left that gas station and drove down the road to find another.

Received a call about three minutes after the gas station incident from this number. At first I didn't recognize the number, so I let it go to voicemail. The person calling left a voicemail saying they were with BB&T's fraud department and they saw suspicious activity on my account recently. I called them back and the representative had me confirm my identity with my two middle social security numbers and my date of birth. She said they saw my debit card trying to be used three times within minutes that all ended in failure, so they locked my checking account. I confirmed with the representative that a gas station was having trouble reading my card. The representative unlocked the account and said I could continue using my debit card.

Very professional and courteous. I'm happy to know my bank has these kinds of people watching my money and calls me anytime something suspicious happens.

I don't have a BBT account and have had this number for two years.  Wont answer the call and would never give out any personal info over the phone.  Call the number on your card if you are concerned.

This number is cool! It is just BB&T's Fraud Department. They only call if a large purchase is made or if multiple purchases within a short time are made.

My card was frozen when I traveled overseas. I didn't have my cellular phone there, so they couldn't call me. They thought somebody else was using it, not me!
That was some pain! Without money and no one to ask to borrow it to me.
You must remember to tell to your bank when you travel or you could end up like me :(
I didn't know how to contact my bank, it was weekend and the number on back of the card was so complicated. Well now I know how to use that number... but it is too late for that.

This is a legit call. It is BB&T's fraud prevention department. I had been online making payments and purchases that were amounting to a larger amount than I usually do at one time and they were calling to make sure that it was me and that someone was not using my card without proper authority. They monitor your account to make sure that you are protected. If you can't answer when they call, they will leave you a message with a service number to call back about. I personally, think this is a great service and am glad that they do it for our protection.

This is a legit number from BBT fraud division.  I live in VA and someone used my card number at a gas station in Florida at the same time we used it in Virginia.  Pretty incredible how they have the system to alert them when the card is being used at different places at the same time.  Card was cancelled and a new one is being issued.

Like everyone else I received a call from 252-360-3399 and was suspicious.  They stated they were with BB&T and were calling about possible fraud on my card.  I refused to verify my account information and they advised me to contact the number on the back of my card.  I goggled the 252 phone number and was even more concerned with the confusion on whether or not this was a legit call.  I called BB&T directly and they advised me I did receive a call from the BB&T fraud center out of Wilson, NC and that my card had been suspended due to suspicious activity.  After reviewing the transactions there was in fact unauthorized debit purchases on my card in another state.  Like several of you have asked, how can a DEBIT purchase happen when I have the card?  One purchase happened at the same time I made a purchase in my state almost to the exact minute.

I informed them that the 252 number is causing a lot of confusion and concern.  If I had to do it all over again I still wouldn?t verify my person information from an unsolicited call like this however I?m very happy BB&T is on the ball.  Hope this helps others that are searching for this info.

This is BB&T.  I just had them call me.  It's not the first time their fraud dept. has been in contact.  I don't care what the circumstance...I'm glad they monitor these things and periodically make the call.  I called them back and in three minutes everything was verified and the call was over.  Very professional.

This number IS BB&T.  Don't let anyone try to make you believe it's some sort of scam.

I wonder how it can be a scam when they don't even ask for any information that can be used against you?  If they ask for numbers, it's not the entire number (Social - they ask for the middle 2 numbers, Debit Card - they ask for the last 4, etc.)  It's no scam.

They called me while we were on vacation to be sure it was really me using my card at Walt Disney World. I appreciated the follow-up.  I've never had them freeze anything or cancel my card - were you slow calling them back or something?

Did they have your name?  Could they not have had your cell # by accident - the account holder was off by a digit or something?

They're entirely legit, I called my local branch to verify.  They asked for my zip code, the DAY of my birth (after telling me the month) and the middle 2 digits of my ssn (to verify it really was me answering my phone), and then they verified that a charge from earlier today to Verizon Wireless was legitimate. It was, it was just me paying my bill online.

BB&T Fraud Prevention is very thorough, they've done a great job for me.

i just got this phone call and it sounded legit, he asked for my zip code, city, and state...also confirming the last 4 letters on my debit card. he said it was automatically frozen and a new one will be sent to me? WTF i rely on this card. he then asked me to confirm the last three times i used it as he listed them...then we said our goodbyes. only thing i dont understand is, i havent used the card out of state, and only like 7 times this week (mostly at the same gas station), and its friday by the way. the card is in my wallet, how does this all happen??

Yes, the number is legitimate.  It is one of the lines to the Wilson, NC branch of the fraud department.

Finding these numbers is like pulling teeth as they are not listed on any BB&T online services.

I received a call trying to confirm a transaction (No more than 10 minutes after making the transaction), and once they started asked me for SS numbers and such, like many of you I told the representative to shove it.

First, unnecessarily I called and canceled my card and put a block on all transactions.
I then proceeded to call the official (8002265228) customer service line. After choosing option 1, listening to all the balance info and whatnot, then finally getting the option to speak with a representative, the number was indeed confirmed to be what was claimed. This representative was also able to handle all of the account and confirmation stuff so I never actually had to call back to the 2523603399 number....anyways

Note: Now seven to ten days waiting for new card. I should have just called and confirmed first.

End of story, the number is legit. But if you're like me and question everything, go ahead and call the official number and get it done that way.  It will work either way.
