Called But Left No message. I Called The Number Back And A Rude Lady Answered Asking About My Son (That I Don't Have) & I Asked What Company She Was With. She insisted I Give Her My number. When I Refused And Asked What Company She Was With Again She Hung Up On Me. I Called Back And VM Answered Saying I Reached The Desk Of Mike O Arbitrator And To Leave A message With My Case Number. I have No Case Number. In My Opinion These People Are Phishing For Personal Information.

You are welcome. Just let them know the next time they call you are aware they are running an extortion scam, have NO intention of paying them anything and have alerted the authorities.

Thank you for the info.  I know I have nothing outstanding, no bad debt etc.  I received these calls a few years ago from a guy with an Indian accent and they stopped, now it's starting up again!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

These guys never gave me their name. I called the # (404)334-9986. His name was Mike and he basically wanted me to pay a $1000.00 Dollars to settle a loan. I asked for the name of the loan place and he said a name I did not recognize. Next time Ill be more prepared and have paper and pen. I was told by (Mike) that he would serve me papers and have me arrested for check fraud. I told him; I did not think this was a true loan and have received calls like this that never sends me paperwork on this loan. He asked me if about information from 5 or 6 years ago when this happened. He asked me if I ever got a loan from an online loan or payday loan company. I said yes but those were paid. He said I apparently missed one and it needed settled. I still refused him. Then he said ...Do you know so and so. He listed 4 people before he got to my son's name. I asked how he got my son's CELL PHONE number since he did not even have a cell until last year. He wouldn't answer my question but said it proved I got a loan because I put my son down as a reference. I knew right there that was not true. I have never used him as reference for any kind of money transitions.

I have been getting calls from "investigators" from this and similar numbers for over two years now.  They have called my mother, who has dementia.  They have called my best friend.  They have called my ex brother in law.  They have called my nephew, who was 12 years old at the supposed time this happened!  Last year I had my Congressional Representative write them a Cease and Desist letter and for one year these calls stopped, and now they are at it again.  They have the last four of my social, the phone numbers of my friends and relatives, the last four of the credit union on which I supposedly wrote a check (I called the credit union and they verified that my account had been closed with nothing past due), and now they are threatening to go to my "place of employment" to serve me a felony warrant for my arrest on massive check fraud!  (this "place of employment" was demolished two years ago - and the address they have for me is over four years old).  I need a new address for these people to write another Cease and Desist letter- if anyone who is posting here has any information about this, please post it.  Thank you.
