These calls are scam. They are using US area codes but actually these people are living outside US. You cannot be arrested for something u owe. If they are smart, they should not be using those words. Next time u get a call from these peopke, ask for their BBB license. Sometimes they identify themselves as a law inforcement agency. When they pickup their phones , they turn on a recording background sounds like an office.

Got a voicemail from the "Law offices of Legal Mediation" today, the number they are using now is 678-871-2469. I know I owe nothing so I didn't bother calling back. Then my ex-husband called and said they called his sister looking for me! We have been divorced 10 years and I haven't used that family name since then, (We are all still close.). She figured it was suspect and told them she had no idea who they were talking about. So at that point I called the number and had them on speaker phone, I gave the boy who answered my "case number" and asked him his name and then told him I was recording our call and needed him to know...he then transferred me to some woman who I again said I told Mr. Oneil and I'm telling you I am recording our conversation for my record. She told me she was not authorizing herself to be recorded and hung up!!..... Yeah I thought so LOSERS!!! DON'T GET SCAMMED PEOPLE!!!

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

Oops, I guess it was the "Law Offices of Legal Mediation." They provided an out of court settlement with my brother to vacate the charges for a worthless check. Thank God. It is almost cleared.

Called and left a message stating they were to file felony charges against my brother and we needed to contact. My brother has done nothing except had some debt in the past which he is almost done paying back. Even so, threatening felony in debt is illegal. Also, really? "Law Offices of Mediation"??? Riiight, that's a real name.
