Got a call from this # to my cell phone during business hours today. Left voicemail. Checked voicemail, which for me, is not free since I do not live in the area code where I work. No message left in voicemail from this #. I would LOVE to charge these places for charges I incur as a result of their scam call.

Received a series of 416 000 numbers starting about a month ago (almost everyday) Most of the time I ignore it. A couple of times I answered and there will be no one answering on the other side. Today, I said "If you don't know how to speak, don't ever call me again." and immediately the other side hung up. So obviously someone's listening on the other end. It's my rogers cell phone they are calling, and I rarely give out my #. After reading the posts here, I don't understand their purpose. Because I did answer the call, and the other side will be silent.

Have been getting lots of calls from 416-000-**** numbers on my cell... Finally answered and heard nothing... I have not registered for the do not call list - I think that these calls are unrelated to whether you're on the list or not... Annoying that they're calling a cell phone...

at first i was receiving maybe one call a month, now it is about 3 a week.
i answered the first couple and it is the exact same "your car warranty is about to expire". i now ignore all the calls.

You've got the right idea. Waste their time with false information! It won't stop them but that is the one thing you can do that costs them money.
To do an effective job you must be prepared with a false address, recent but not new model car details (know the model name, year, mileage, engine size etc.), but most importantly know how the credit card numbers work for the one you choose to name so you know which part to fake.
Worried about them calling the law for giving false information - in particular the credit card? They would have to admit they called you with a false number, they lied to you about your warranty expiring and they would have to reveal who they are and answer questions about the warranty. They don't want that kind of attention.
They may even put you on a list that is not worth calling.
Try it and keep yourself educated. Good luck.

i've received numerous calls on both my cell (telus) and landline (bell). i never give out my cell phone as a contact and i too am wondering how the f*ck they got my number. i haven't answered their calls yet. i tried calling back but the phone system doesn't allow you to call 000 numbers... also makes me wonder how can phone companies assign phone numbers like that. maybe they should be held responsible for all this harassment. :s
i'm tempted to answer (my landline, hell no with my cell phone) and just give them all false information. for fun. or tell them to go f*ck themselves. not that it would make a difference, but at least i would get a very small portion of self satisfaction. lol. :( sigh.

I have recived this call afew times before, but I have just hung up after hearing the automated lady. My car has a dealership warrenty and I couldn't understand why they were calling me from a 416 #. Yesterday at 4:30 I recieved another call and decided to wait for someone to answer. They knew my cell #, but I told them too, to remove my # from their list.

I receive calls from 416-000-5591 too. It is very annoying. My Cell is Pay as You Go and expensive. How I can remove my number from their list by calling them or sending Email?

I get calls from these '416000' numbers all the time these days, starting from about a month ago. Welcome to the newest plague from the scamsters! They know that pretty much everyone has call display to backtrack who they are and call the friendly people who maintain the 'do not call' list, so they just broadcast a fake number.
My personal favourite game to play with them is to play along long enough to find out what company their claiming to be from, then announce myself as the head of the fraud investigation department for that company. They tend to hang up pretty quick and I get a good laugh out of it. (Then of course I contact that company and tell them someone is trying to defraud their customers. The cops may be useless in this case, but private investigators aren't held back by the same things as the police are.)
This one guy who called from a 000 actually had it in his head that I was going to give out my PIN number to him since he was claiming to be from a bank that I have never done business with. Even if he'd guessed the bank right, he'd be completely unable to tell me my account number, DOB, or anything that would make me believe he worked for who he said he did. Are people actually retarded enough to fall for this stuff?

After getting a TON of these calls, I finally picked the phone. It talked about the 2nd notice for the warranty on my car. The automated message said to press 1 to speak to a representative. I spoke to "Peter" with a southern accent. He said "before we begin, let me ask you a couple of questions." I said before we begin let ME ask YOU some questions. Whats MY name and what kind and year of car do I have your bogus warranty on? He didnt know (obviously). I said my 8yr old car has LONG been out of warranty, and called him on his companies SCAM!!! He told me he would take me off the call list.
We shall see how that goes.lol

I received a call from 416-000-5591. I did not pick it up and they did not leave any messages. Yesterday they called me from 416-000-9971.

I recieved a call this morning (Feb 26) at 9:52am from 416-000-5591. It's about the 3rd or 4th of these car warranty calls I've received on my cell phone in recent weeks. It's either sequential dialing using cell prefixes or someone who shouldn't have has gotten a hold of my cell #.

I recieved a call this morning (Feb 26) at 9:14am from 416-000-5591. I didn't answer it but they left a blank message. Why the heck am I getting these calls?
| Telus Mobility User in Ontario 2009-02-26 00:29:49 Unknown |
Just like previous posts, I received a call from this # today @ 4:37 PM. I called the # back and there is a message "1-T-3, your call can not be completed... blah blah blah"...
| Bell Mobility User in Ontario 2009-02-25 21:59:51 Unknown |
Like the previous poster, have been receiving many calls from numbers in the 416-000 range. I don't answer, since it's obviously not a real number. I can only guess that they're sequentially dialing within a known prefix and hoping to catch a customer.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 11:36 AM EST: This would be, what, the 10th call from the "416-000" series of numbers? In addition to the "416-000-5591" number calling me just now, I've already received calls from "416-000-3196", "416-000-1396", "416-000-5876", and "416-000-7953". All calls, interestingly , were to my Rogers cellphone - a number that I do not give out often. This leads me to be a little curious as to how folks are getting my number without me giving it out to them.
Oh, and someone may comment that the "National Do Not Call" list for Canadians is a good option or that being put on some "Do Not Call" list of businesses that call would work as well. If only things were so simple. At least in Canada, I am not about to put my number on it as (relatively) recently, it was found that telemarketers could purchase the list of folks on the list and from there, call the ones that didn't want to be called in the first place. And then there are the "Do Not Call" lists of actual individual folks that call/harass/annoy people with their repetitive phoning. The last thing I want to do is to let these (auto)dialers of telemarketers and their ilk to find out that a particular phone number (mine) will lead to a live person. If their calling machines find out a phone number had someone/thing pick up, that would lead to their machines to call over and over. It's like they're thinking, "We like to repeatedly harass people because, hey, if someone picked up once, surely someone will pickup again. And if we harass them enough, we might score a customer."
