Debt Collector
Got the same message except the last four digits were 8332 instead of 8331. They have called my home and cell 15 times in the last 2 days leaving the same message about 2 counts of fraudulent activity, blah blah. I haven't bothered to call back because I knew it was bogus. I will be blocking and filing a complaint however.

They are now calling from 504-535-4829.....the government needs to STOP collection calls and make collections via certified mail or the courts only and this would stop most of this crap

They called me three days in a row leaving the same message. I called the guy back and started asking questions, considering a name wasn't left or a business name either, sent up waring flags for me. I started asking questions and I told the guy, I knew it was a scam and his reply, Bi***, go to hell and hung up on me. I filed a complaint with the FTC, I contacted the Police Department in South Bend, Indiana. I called them back yesterday and he said his name was Mr. Monroe, I asked the name of the company and was told it was GMA, Can't find a company by that name in South Bend, Indiana and I asked for the address, he goes do you have a claim. I replied, can I please get your address, again, do you have a claim, can I get your address and was told good luck, you are going to need it. This same type of scamming ring was broken up in North Dakota by the FTC and now someone else is doing it.

Just call your phone company and ask about blocking the phone number so they can't call you. I did that and it was nice not getting calls from them.

Spam, called both my cell phone and my parents house where I haven't lived in over 7 years. 1st phone call said two counts of fraud filed against me and my social security number. 2nd phone call listed a claim number and I needed to call the legal department.

I have never done a payday loan and my credit is great, so these people can go away.

I called my phone carrier and they told me what to do with the problem. I was told how to block the number that was calling which I did. I suggest that you call your phone carrier and ask about blocking the number, and you won't get any calls. I talked to my cousin who is a retired sheriff and said the call is fake. If they were going to file against you it would be coming from the district attorney and if you committed a crime, they are going to punish you not ask you to call and rectify the problem. He said I already rectified it by blocking them from calling me. The other thing is that they would not call you, they would send you a certified letter to go in to the district attorney's office.

I just got called again but this time the vm was a guy and stated he received papers regarding civil complaint filed against me and he was retained to serve me to appear at court at my residence or place of employment. if you have any questions or concern about the complaint or wish to rectify the matter outside the court before your served you need to call 574-968-8331 please reference case number #######. you have officially been notified. It seems strange that they want to charge me with Fraudalaunt activity and they are giving you a chance to rectify the matter.

I just got this same call.  I haven't done anything and my credit is complete crap.  I am disabled with no income at all.  I have made any purchases or applied for any credit or loans in years.  This is so absurd.  I couldn't believe it when I heard it.  I am confused at to what the purpose of this call is.  Are they trying to obtain information from me? If they say I have fraud in my name with my SSN then I shouldn't need to provide anything, right?  Don't be fooled. Do we all really have 2 counts of fraud and it can't be resolved any longer after we are served at work or home.  I don't have work. ridiculous.

I received the same call from 574-968-8331 from a machine and it was a female voice but could not understand the name of the company. It said the same thing filing 2 charges for fraudulent activity has been attached to my name and social security number, and to call so they can make me aware of my legal rights to address your charges prior to being filed against you. You need to do so before you receive your summons at your place of employment or your home address once your served your rights will be forfeited. your case number is _ _ _ _ _ their telephone number is 574-968-8331. I then called at 6:25 pm California time and answering machine came on and said you can't leave messages as mail box is full. I called my cousin who is a retired Sheriff Officer and said it is a scam call and never the less I still think about it even though I try to forget about it as he stated.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
