Call from 587-404-1600.  called back...no room on the answering machine.

Called myhom telephone number.  Did not leave message.

They call daily, sometimes in the evening. I've long since quit answering. Sometimes I pick up and hit the * key 20 times or so. They still call. Sigh.

Got a call from 587-404-1600
It's a northern Alberta area code and when I asnswered it started with a pre-recorded message saying it was "credit services" - I hung up

Called 12:19 afternoon mountain standard time.
No message left.

They called at 11:25 am. As 587 is an Alberta area code, and I am currently waiting to hear back from a few companies where I have applied for a job, I answered.

Heard a click

Then a voice " Credit Services"

Hung up the phone.

Be aware of these b*****ds!

An update to my previous post.  I just found this today.  Maybe something real is being done afterall.
I just found this under the Latest Forum Thread entitled "Boilerplate spammer on the 'Card Services' numbers" Maybe I spoke too soon about nothing being done by national governments (or at least law enforcement). This, in my opinion, is what we really need more of (see below):


The Federal Trade Commission announced Wednesday a multinational crackdown on so-called tech support scams, in which the callers, who usually asserted that they represented technology companies like Microsoft, Dell and security companies like Symantec and McAfee, tried either to sell virus-protection software or to get the consumer to allow remote access to his computer so that the caller could then ?fix? it, for fees of $45 to $450.

In six cases filed in federal district court in Manhattan, the commission named 17 individuals and 14 companies, most in India, as participants in the operations, including many with legitimate-sounding names like Virtual PC Doctor and V-Tech Solutions.

At the commission?s request, a federal district judge in Manhattan froze the United States assets of the suspects. The commission also said it had shut down 80 Internet domain names and 130 phone numbers in the United States used in the scheme. Efforts to reach several of the companies and individuals were unsuccessful.

The suspected fraud occurred in several English-speaking countries. Joining the F.T.C. in the enforcement action were the Australian Communications and Media Authority, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission and Britain?s Serious Organized Crime Agency.

This number is calling our house we will not answer so they can stop.  We will not answer any 800 number with no name & even then we may not answer the phone.

Called it back and it said the magic jack customer is unavailable.

Get call blocking, if you do not have it, and apply it to such calls.  This will not likely stop until all these calls are either blocked by everyone on an on-going basis or people start putting pressure on governments to apply strict penalties.  Unfortunately it will have to be an international sort of pressure.

That may be why governments have been using Micky Mouse solutions so far such as so called Do Not Call Lists which Do NOT work!  For them it is a matter of time before enough people get fed up.  This makes no sense otherwise.  Why would scammers from the same phone number use several different techniques such as harassing calls that 'just hang up', supposed legal scare tactics, false interest rate lowering schemes and fake unpaid debt scares to hassle people all over North America?  The only thing I can think of is that there is more to this than meets the eye.

So, for now, call blocking or other technologies seem to be the best answer.  Putting pressure on the government may be just what they want in the first place.  Otherwise why have they done nothing up till now that has any teeth in it?

This number has called me I am on the do not call  list.

I received a call from Card Services, British-sounding female voice saying due to recent legislation you may be eligible for 0% interest on your credit card. I press 2 to remove my number.

these f****rs from card services called and said I had made my payments so i was put on the queue and when I asked which bank they represented they said 551 banks....so I asked why they are calling me and they said to offer to lower my rates...I said what's my name since I was put on a queue,,,they don;t have that info...so don't give them your names!!!

Then I asked to be taken off their calling list and this bi*** hangs up the phone...I am contacting BBB and NOCALL LIST since that's the new way they try and get away with continously calling you back...they hang up before you finish saying "take me off your calling list" foking pisses me off when they do that...but clearly they heard me...

I am tired of these $%^$%&* people.
