that's a collection agency not credit union

Jun 28, 1:09pm "This is for <name> Please give me a call back at General Credit Services. My number is  toll free at 1-877- 588-4274 x 2339. this is regarding a very important business matter that requires your immediate attention, thank you." He asked for someone who doesn't exist but has the same last name as I do - and I have a brand new number never used before 2 years ago and am on the Canadian Do Not Call list.

I was going to call back to say he had the wrong contact number, but with your many posts here, I won't!

Further to my earlier post, got my third call today already at 12:35pm from these people - but from 1-877-588-4274. Both of these numbers are for "General Credit Services" which is obviously a collection company.

This is a fraud campaign currently active in Canada using a series of  VOIP numbers.  The objective is to obtain your credit card number and drain your account.

If you attempt to "opt out" your number will be confirmed as live and added to a suckers list for repeated future calls.

This number called at 11:09am and then again at 11:13am today. I do not answer 1-800 numbers or numbers I do not know.  I get repeat calls from these types of numbers that are NOT for me. I only have a couple of credit cards and they are always kept current. I do not appreciate telemarketing calls which often come from 1-800 numbers, and have no desire to change anything on my current cards. The collections call are not regarding anything I owe anybody, Often the credit calls are for someone else that they say gave my number as a "contact" number, yet not with my permission and would ONLY ever be given for purposes of "life and death" situations. I am NOT responsible in any way for "someone else's debt." I have not and would not cosign for anybody, so whatever debt they seek to collect has absolutely nothing to do with me. These harassing phone calls tell me that "I" cannot remove my number from their information, that it can only be done by the person they are calling for. It is pure harassment. This particular number is apparently "General Credit Services Inc." with a main office in Vancouver, BC. I do not have voicemail, and my answering machine is full. I have deliberately left it full so that these harassing people cannot leave me any more messages. In addition to the constant harassing phone calls, these collection people might think they are smart using an 'automated message' but these messages do not even say WHO they want to speak to. As far as I am concerned none of these calls are for me and I am not an answering service that they seem to want to leave messages with me for someone else. As much as I dislike more laws and government interference, they really should step in and stop this harassment.

I was sure it was a credit union calling me AGAIN, thanks for the tip.

I have been getting calls from this number saying that this number was the one given by a certain person.  I have denied knowing that person and they keep on calling me, insisting that this number was the one given as reference.

This is Corporate office and we keep getting calls from this phone number and they looking for someone who doesn't exist. They also use abusive language. We got almost 20 Calls.
Can we call 911 and Report.

Called me saying that I have a ticket violation in January 2012 in Edmonton? I've never lived in Edmonton in my life and hasn't been to that city in the past 7 years! I asked them to resolve this and stop calling me. I got no apology from them for the mess.

They tried calling me too, as if they will get anywhere.
To the morons at general credit, this is from all of those
people who you look for in the wrong places.....

Got a call from this number 2 times in the last 2 days.  Left automated voicemail both times to call them back "This is not a telemarketing call, but it is important you call us back at 604.688.6097 extension something-I-forgot right away.  Thank you."

Right... like I'm going to do that.  If you are my bank or credit card or boss or any legit business you would've identified yourself and stated the purpose of the call in the voicemail - then I would call back

These people keep phoning here about a debt that my partner knows nothing about; he has a couple of other debts that are now being managed by a debt management company on his behalf.  Once this happens these companies are supposed to stop calling you, we got a call today from someone called "nicholas" who said they had phoned our debt management company but their (General Credit Services) want a deal on the table and payment TODAY.  I told them that they are not to phone us, they are to deal solely through my partners' debt management company but he started shouting at me and threatening me and saying that my partner has GOT to talk to them and they will keep phoning here until he does.  That is harrassment.  I have called our debt management company to find out what we can do about it.  These people are incredibly unpleasant and very unprofessional, as shown by them demanding something be given today...they are not allowed to do that either, nor are they allowed to repeatedly phone you like they have threatened to do to us.  They wont provide any information regarding the debt but demand that a payment is made today!!! Seriously, how the hell can these people still be allowed to be in business?  Seeing the feedback on here it seems like they dont get their facts right before they begin their campaign of harrassment, it is about time something is done about this dreadful outfit.

I call back immediately and get voice mail only so i have left messages on their voice mail telling them this and to STOP CALLING!  but the calls continue.....

so if you are reading this GENERAL CREDIT/CUSTOMER CARE---remove our number from your list or i will file harrassment charges...thank you

These guys have been calling and leaving nonsense messages for the past week.  When I tried to call them back the line was forever busy.  This is total nonsence.

i have had this call three times asking me to pay for a pay day loan i suposedly got. im not even old enough to get a loan. the lady on the phone keeps saying she is going to take it to a judge. i have talked to the police and they said to ask to a super visor. i did talk to a supor visor i asked if they could verify my personal info and she wouldnt then she threatend to take it to a judge. how do i stop this?

once a week never reply looked up  and found it is  General credit services vancouver bc. canada

This number has called my home a few times asking for my son who is in highschool and does not possess a credit card or have any debt, he's a kid, I don't even know where they got his name or my number from.

I got a call @ 6;15 pm and  the caller let the  phone ring 35 times. I would not answer it and I am not. When I see a number I do not recognize or I have said the person does not live here and you still call. If you think I am going to call you and get my # removed NO!!! I know you are doing your job ,but c'mon 35 times. I have no small children,but you  and other companies should only be able to call between 9 am and 2 pm. While kids are in school. I have seen the stress on parents and the kids innocent.

I got a call from this number , they seem to be pressing me to pay for something i don't know for , i sent them reminders for letting me have the bill, a girl called and promised to resolve , then i don't hear from them for long and next i know is they have put it on my credit history even before they called me ..i find it straight out of hollywood movie which is a white collar crime thriller,A person does not get the bill  and on repeated reminders is not sent the bill , replies to this GCS are in writing and then they still want me to pay over phone. I am not paying till i am told what the amount is about and get a bill from the person who has asked for this collection .

If you dont know the person we are looking for, simply call us, toll free at 1-877-588-4274, give us your phone number and the reference number that was left and we will gladly remove your phone number from our data base - we dont want to call people who dont know the person we are looking for any more than you want these calls.

they called saying someone put me as their "primary contact" and that the person (who i have never heard of) needs to call them immediately with a reference number.

Seems like a collection agency.  They never did identify who they were...
