I have had three calls here at the police department from this number. I have told them all three times, (A) I do not have an AMEX card, (B) Do not call again with solicitations, (C) This is now considered a telephone harassment issue. They do not listen.

Received a call AT WORK from this number on Saturday and Sunday.  They left a voicemail and it was an automated recording saying something about American Express and them having a question about a transaction or something like that.  They left their hours of operation and 888 number.  I did not call back because I thought it was weird they would call my work twice and never my cell phone which is the number that Amex has for me.  So just off of that I figured it was a scam.

Out of curiosity I answered this number since I was curious if it claimed to be Amex.  A guy answered asking for me, and I was not home, said he was Amex and would call back.  I'll block him.  I seem to get more and more of these calls every day and I'm surprised thy call my cell since I never have given out my cell number.  I'm getting pretty tired of this crap and so are the rest of my friends and acquaintances.  Anyone have an idea about how to get rid of these people.  I would certainly appreciate the help.  Thank you.

We've been getting harassing phone calls consisting of nothing but annoying tones from this number, as well as other "unknown caller" numbers. The calls started right after we hit a rough patch and got behind in payments to American Express. We suspected it was AmEx, but didn't know for sure, UNTIL they slipped up and used THREE of those same phone numbers to instead deliver an automated message ASKING US TO CALL AMERICAN EXPRESS. (It's a good thing we logged those numbers!)

In our case, almost all the calls are pure harassment, consisting of loud "beeeep beeeep beeeep" tones that go on and on. When the answering machine answers the phone, the tones continue until the machine times-out and disconnects. When we answer the phone, we are also greeted by the same loud tones. These are not telephone company type tones; at least, not like any I've ever heard before.

Generally, we get about 2 to 4 (or more) of these "tone" calls per day, coming in from any of the following numbers:

212-300-5091 ...tones
212-365-4761 ...tones, or an automated msg from AmEx
212-380-3114 ...tones
602-537-9011 ...tones
623-492-7299 ...tones
623-492-8037 ...tones
623-492-8976 ...tones
800-266-5832 ...tones
800-266-7073 ...tones, or an automated msg from AmEx
801-945-9060 ...tones
801-945-9061 ...tones, or an automated msg from AmEx
801-945-9065 ...tones
866-260-2386 ...tones
866-544-8416 ...tones
866-884-0976 ...tones
954-503-1806 ...tones
954-503-2843 ...tones

A few calls from these numbers were "silent"...no tones, no nothing.

A few calls of the loud tones have come in from blocked IDs (unknown numbers).

Anyway, embarrassing as circumstances are, I figure someone else might find this info helpful.

Received call from this number yesterday.  No message left.  Annoying and harassing.  Comes up Arizon on caller id.  In reading the comments, it seems like American Express.  Thought credit card companies are not allowed to call you on a Sunday.  What gives????  Going to authorities to report them.

They didn't leave a message so while it probably was American Express, if they were trying to get you to pay a bill, they most likely would have left a message, albeit automated, to call them promptly.

Since I started getting calls within 90 minutes of entering my AMEX card into our corporate travel system, I had our corporate security look into it.  Apparently this is one of the numbers that is used by AMEX  although the person I talked to when I called the number on the back of my card did not seem to know this -

The calls that she is getting phone calls from are definitely from American Express, they are not from a scammer. That number is our Credit/Collections Dept. I think the timing is pure co-incidence, but I can certainly see why she was wary as a result of it. I can?t speak to why they are calling her, only that it has nothing at all to do with her corporate AMEX card. I would recommend that she answers the next call to clear it up, now that she can be assured that the calls are really coming from a valid American Express number. .?

From what we learned, the corporate travel environment has not been breached, and this seems to be a matter more of coincidence.

However, I would answer the call as they are calling you - find out what they want without disclosing any information and ask that your phone number be removed as it is in error (if it is)

Just because you've never had an AMEX does not mean that some data entry clerk did not type your number into the system associated with a card or that someone did not get a card and use your phone number as contact.

This is a real AMEX number.  And apparently they do not leave any voicemail messages.  If it is not you, try asking them to remove your number from their phone system.

I started getting calls on my mobile within 90 minutes of putting my AMEX card in our travel system so I reported it to our security.  They may contact and it definitely IS one of the numbers AMEX does use.  However, I knew there was nothing wrong with my corporate account and I had just downloaded the free credit report and no AMEX on it so pretty sure it was a mistake.  Just to be safe, I did call and asked that my phone number be removed from their dialing system.  Either someone entered the phone number incorrectly into the AMEX system or someone used my phone number on an AMEX account - I don't know.  They cannot look up by the phone number - only by SSN or card number.

The people calling from this number are not from American Express!!! They're criminals hoping to get your card info and social security number. I don't have a credit card or any debt for that matter and I've gotten calls from these numbers, all supposedly from AmEx:
623-492-7299
866-884-0976
212-365-4761

If you gave them any info, call AmEx right away and close your account. You should call all your credit card companies and banks too. Hopefully if you do so soon enough, you'll prevent these people from opening more cards in your name or cleaning out your bank accounts.

I just missed a call from this number, caller ID said Amer Express.  When I returned the call, they asked for my account number.  I did not give it.  I then called Amer. Express, using the number on tghe back of my card.  They said they did not call me, and they could not identify the number that did call me.  IT IS NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS.  IT APPEARS TO BE A COMPLETE SCAM.

Calls my cell all the time but never leaves a message ever.

I've seen this number listed on another site associated with an American Ex scam and just trying to wrongfully get personal info. I've never had an Amer Ex. I've read that they just get a list of numbers and randomly call. If u have a AmEx card the want ur card info. If you dont have a AmEx card, they verify your dont by asking for your social sec #.
