This number is not in use so it is not a true caller ID. Telemarketers use this to make contact. They call at odd hours and leave no voice message.

Scammers calling to see if your # is a working number to sell to other crooks. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK TO HAVE YOUR # REMOVED FROM THEIR CALL LIST. Please tell all your friends who get these call. Spread the word people. Its the only way to help cut down on annoying calls.

I disagree with one thing you said: "...hang up." It's better to not answer at all. If your VM or answering machine picks up, then they know they have a live number. I use Caller ID instead of any VM or answering machine and turn the ringer down very low. When I check the Caller ID, I call back the numbers I recognize. I have gone from 7 to 10 calls a day to one or two a week.

Guitar, you are right 800notes can't stop the calls but it's more than venting.  When I get an unrecognized call the first place I check is here at 800notes.  If I see the number, case closed.  If I don't see it here, I'll add it.

Don't answer and don't call back.  If you answer and press "1" to be taken off their list, don't buy it.  They are downloading your number into their system and substitute it as their number so you'll be charged for any calls they make.  

If they don't leave a message, they will hope your curiosity gets the best of you and call back.  You just might be calling an overseas number costing hundreds of dollars a minute.  The scam caller will split it with the overseas phone company and now you have a fight with your local company. Best advice, don't answer the phone.

NOOOOO  never call back a number if you don't recognize it, don't even answer.  Some of those area codes are overseas and calling them back leave you with a hefty phone bill.  Also pressing 1 or any other number they ask you to press tells them they got a sucker on the line and some even rig their phone to now have your phone number as the origin for any calls they make and you get billed.  If it's possibly legitimate, they'll leave a voice message.  If you don't recognize who it is that left the message, check out the number they want you to call back if they left a company name, otherwise delete the message and move on.

This board is simply a sounding board for people to vent and inform others of scam telemarketing calls they receive.  There is no authority associated with the 800notes site to stop these callers.  In order for people to collectively stop these type calls they must act together - and TAKE ACTION!  It doesn?t do any good to complain about a caller on this board unless you then take the next step and do something about it!  The caller ID number is usually a ?Spoof Number? ? A Fake!  Never, never, ever engage the caller or call back the number.  The false robocallers will then capture your number as a ?live one? and use it over and over and sell it to other scammers.  The same goes if it prompts you to ?press a key? to ?opt out?  of their calling lists, or be transferred to someone, as this will only ?log? your number as a working one and make it ripe for future calls and to be sold to other scam companies as well.
The best option is simply to hang up, keep your own list of calling numbers with dates and times and report themt to the FCC below.  There is space on their complaint form to list several calling dates and times of a repeat caller.
The DO NOT CALL list is worthless, they do not act on anything, just build a database of numbers.
In order to do something to help stop these type calls, everyone - EVERYONE needs to file an online complaint directly with the FCC.  If they receive enough complaints about a particular number - they will act on it.  Do it today and pass along the info:

Call every day but never leave a message.

This # calls repeatedly. Caller ID says Towanda,NY. Leaves no message...called back and goes to a voice mail asking to press 1 to register to be put on their DO NOT CALL LIST. Will not press and keys...just don't answer phone when this # comes up. Very annoying!!!

You were called by an illegal Robodialer/telemarketer. What list do you expect this person to remove you from? When you get these type of calls DO NOT call them back, DO NOT press any numbers - Hang up.

Got a call from this number. I called it back because no one would answer. It says press 1 if you want to be removed from this list. What list? No identification of the company or anything. It was just stupid. I am not happy that I have to press 1 to get rid of someone that won't identify themselves? What did I really push 1 for? THIS Scared me with all the scams out there.
