I received a call from this number, but nobody left a message, then I received a call right after, but it said, "no caller ID."  I get bogus and criminal calls all the time and while I'm not going to be screaming and yelling about it (really, what's that gonna do, but raise my blood pressure), it is super annoying and distracting and I wish it would stop.

They called tonight at 630pm. They didn't say whom they were calling for, just left an important message and some reference number.

Debt Collector
My story - after too many years of debt collector robo calls, I decided to fight back against these Debt Collector's phone calls. I decided to start filing complaints, logging, recording, and reporting their behavior every where I could.

For example, since April 1 to  April 10 Dynia & Associates, LLC robo called every day (sometimes multiple time a day). Even after calling them telling them on the phone (2) separate times: to stop calling, they have the wrong number, no person by that name at this number.
Dynia was looking for one of the "Jackson 5" as they "all" do/have done. This time they were looking for Jackie Jackson.  I filed a complaint with the IL Attorney General Office at http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/debtcollection.html and through the FTC/CFPB at http://www.consumerfinance.gov/Complaint/#debt-collection. They finally removed my phone number and stopped calling after the CFPB contacted them, so I did not hear from them on 4/11/14.

As the DCs often do - when one stops another DC starts calling. So on Sat 4/12 and again on Mon 4/14/14 Receivables Performance Management (RPM) started robo calling. I never had calls from RPM before and there have been a few. RPM called from phone numbers 240-210-7111 and 804-952-9950. I was not here to call them back to tell them to stop calling the wrong number.

So today Tue 4/15/14, while not hearing from RPM yet today, now another junk debt collector named Oliphant Financial called. I Google'd the phone number it was 800-262-1999. When I answered the phone, to my surprise it was a human and he asked for me by name!!
His tone did not sound right, like a normal business call. It did not feel like a business call, so I did not acknowledge that I was that person. I did not acknowledge his question or identify myself and I asked who's calling, he asked if I was (name) again, I asked who this is and what's his call was about. He finally said it was Oliphant. I did not know this name. He asked again if I was the person he asked for. I asked what is this company? What is this about? This back and forth went on about 3-4 times and then he hung up.

It is as if they appear to be passing my phone number around from collector to collector for harassment purposes.

Persistent little junk/zombie collector aren't you? Understandable. Peons that work as cubicle clowns for junk debt buyers are always desperate. You should be! We know what you're paid!
People are always better off ignoring scum-bags from boiler-rooms. Or blocking their calls. If you were legitimate, those notices of validation would have been sent. Outfits like yours don't send those notices. You know that you're attempting to collect invalid, or time-barred, debts. There's not a damn thing you can do but bluster & shovel BS!
JDBs are simply degenerate gamblers. They hope to turn a profit from what they're already aware is trash paper. They hire minimum-wage flunkies to do the calling for them. They keep their minions attentive by promising commissions. Which rarely materialize. The cubicle-clowns are invariably slow to catch on. They just can't seem to realize that they're working for far better smoke-blowing frauds than they are!
Keep trying to shovel your manure though! You've come to the right place. The regulars here can take apart every argument you can offer. We know what you are. We know where you purchase your paper. We know what you pay for it. We know the state & federal laws regarding debt collection inside out. Simply put, we know FAR more about the debt collection industry than you will EVER know! And none of the regulars here owe any delinquent debt. My FICO score hovers right around 800. What's yours flunkie?

Calling through the use of random numbers?? that would be a waste of time and money... if you are being called and know it's a wrong number you need to make the people calling you aware of that, otherwise they have no way of knowing... also, just because you have a good credit score doesn't mean you don't have a past due debt floating around.. if the debt is so old it's not affecting your credit than send a written C&D and the calls will stop, ignoring the issue doesn't make it go away..

Debt Collectors utilizing a low level phishing scam. They are calling through the use of random numbers, since its my MagicJack that I use when out of the States, that they keep calling. With that, for all those posting that we who are annoyed by the calls still owe money, I have an 814 credit score with zero non-reoccurring debt. So please tell me again that this is a legitimate company adhering to good business practices.

Got a call and a VM on my mobile phone from this place "Oliphant Collections" about a debt owed by someone named Patricia somebody who I've never heard of in my life, supposedly associated with some strange address in Delaware.  I called them back and told them I never heard of Patricia and have never been in Delaware except driving through it on my way to somewhere else (maybe I shopped in a store there once or went to a show but that's it).  To their credit, the person who answered was nice, spoke decent English and said they would take my number off their call list.

Really?..How about my son got a call about a loan today..Hmm let me see, he was 15 in 2003, so clearly it was not his loan..When I called and spoke to the woman today she also stated the loan was $2002 and it originated in 1985..Really?..Hmmm that would mean you have a social security number on file that never even existed until 1988..Does this even make sense to you?..My son was born in 1988 so how do you have a loan, a phone number, numerous addresses, and HIS social security number on a loan that existed 3 years before he was even born?..Also, you stated the last payment was made in 2003, someone took eighteen years to pay off a two thousand dollar loan and now eleven years later you are collecting on it?..None of it makes sense..Do your research before harassing people!!!!

You still owe the debt after it gets charged off.. what makes you think Oliphant is a home based bussiness? I can hardly imagine a company that buys debt portfolios that cost millions of dollars operating out of somebodys house... Think about it.

I would love to have the correct address not the P.O Box Address, shameless collection tactics from a home base business is just terrible especially if the amount  according to the the collector is less than 70.00 dollars that by now for sure has been written off and claim on the business taxes why pay a third party for something you do not owe. Mistakes happen but constantly calling is not the way

So the good-n-bad cop routine worked perfectly on you. Yay for Oliphant, dodging another lawsuit bullet. Dollars to donuts, your kinder, gentler rep works in the cubicle next to "Guy", and they laugh about you at the bar each night.

State and federal law entitles you to civil and fair treatment from debt collectors. If you don't get any on the first try, you are NOT facing an agency which gives a damn about you or legal compliance until your story appears in print under "Summons and Complaint".

You are under no obligation to return collection phone calls and should not be arm-twisted into doing so by shaming you at the workplace. Moreover, calls to PoE are allowed only to locate you, *which they did* before this Goon Malone made childish threats. All that is fodder for a FDCPA action, which in your place I'd have filed by now.

} I thought debt collectors aren't suposed [sic] to call work numbers

Perfectly legal in the US, if the call is to obtain your location and the agency has not been told that a PoE is off limits, a ban which anyone at your former workplace could have placed.

} I have zero income. .... got approved for Food Stamps

Your financial triage is not the collector's problem and not a defense in a debt claim. From their perspective, you walked on a lender contract, making you liable. There are phrases you don't want to hear from them. Here are a few the collectors don't want to hear from you:

"I dispute. Please validate. Phone calls are inconvenient."

Put those wishes on Certified Mailed paper and you preserve most of your FDCPA rights, particularly within thirty days of the agency's first required dunning letter. Arguing with dodgy reps on the phone won't take you where you need to be.

Foul language from a debt collector is not allowed by law, but it is allowed by you if obedience is not demanded, preferably through a FDCPA lawsuit.

Debt Collector
My company was requested to attend a telemarketing and debit collection conference/convention.  Oliphant  was one of the primary venders interested in our services.  In follow up interviews I learned how the collectors have a model they use as a template.  It's starts with the people they hire, I won't repeat what the exec's at these companies say about their employees especially bottom tier, but believe me when I say, the think very little their own employees. The purpose of the calls is to try and solicit emotions. This is based on the assumption that people that are delinquint are behind on multiple creditors.  So they are, in a sense, competing with other creditors for payment.  They are for the most part foreigners praying on "an over indulgent American society".  Oliphants primary strategy is saturation phoning.  Calling your workplace, tell them they are collecting a debt and ask if their client works there.  Or calling people in your city of residence having wife's maiden name and implying they may have been used as a reference.  They dedicate a substantial amount of staff and resources to find ways to push their methods upto and just beyond the legal limits. Best way to handle them.  Take charge of the conversation immediatlly. Never answer their questions directly. They ask you how do you want to pay, ask them to send you a bill or ask them their name again. This will get them frustrated and off their script. Then you can see what type of people work their. The longer you stay calm the more they will try to invoke emotion.  Most are embarrassed of their jobs, and live in their own hell.  Don't give them the satisfaction of getting to you. And for god sake pay your bills. lol.

I'm a pediatric nurse and received a rude call from a man saying his name was "Guy Malone". I explained my work schedule and why I was unable to return his call sooner. He exploded!! He went on to say that when he calls I must call back quickly or he will call me at my place of employment. Which he did several times!!!!!!!!!

I spoke with a Supervisor there about his behavior and now deal with another Representative and have been treated with dignity ever since.

Shame on you Guy Malone.
