Well these folks got a live one when they called me this moring.
I am a paralegal at a large law firm and when they called this morning and knew everything about me INCLUDING my debit card number I went BALLISTIC.
Of course they hung up on me so I looked them up and called their actual phone number - (813) 874-3368.
I got a girl who left me on hold for an extended period of time so I hung up and called back and she apologized and said the guy I need to speak to is in a meeting and unavailable to talk.
I told her he had 2 minutes to pick up the phone because that's about how long it will take me to fill out a form 1088 to report them to the FCC and then directly after that I was going to look for others whose information (including debit card number) had been sold to their company and start a class action suit against them and whomever sold the information to them seeking damages for any fraudulent charges that had been made and any expenses related to closure of checking accounts, reissue of debit cards, and printing of replacement checks for new accounts that would have to be opened by the people affected by this scheme.
She hung up on me.
So I called back and told her I was about to become her personal worst nightmare if she didn't give me to someone who could provide answers.
She gave me the line about everyone being in a meeting and that's when I said "I know where you are. You are on Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa and you are going to meet me face to face in just a couple of minutes."
She promptly put me through to another person who said they would immediately remove my information in its entirety from their system.
I told them if I EVER hear from them again they will regret ever taking that job.

My then fiance (now husband) received the same promotion via fax at his work place in late November 2008.

The Honolulu, Hawaii promotion gained our attention.
I was very reluctant to entertain such a purchase ... but then, I remembered that a very good friend of mine had purchased one of these packages several years ago.  A small group of us traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida for 4 days/3 nights (we bought an extra night) and we stayed at the Best Western on the ocean.  I bought the remaining 4 day/3 night Orlando, Florida portion of the trip package from her.  The next year a friend and I used that trip and stayed at a very reputable hotel. and we received our two free tickets to the Arabian Nights Dinner Show.

So, we very skeptically purchased this package in November 2008.
The vacation company staff is great!  They're cordial, very helpful, and really do return your phone calls.
In July 2009 we used the 3 day/2 night Fort Lauderdale, Florida trip (the vacation resort condo was fabulous) ... along with the 4 day/3 night Bahamas cruise and stay.  The Bahamas part of the trip was met with mixed emotions.  The Discovery Cruise ship is very old and primarily used for day trips between Florida and the Bahamas. All meals were free only if you purchased a passport in 2009 for the first time ever, and you showed it to one of the staff people assigning the rooms.  Then you received vouchers in $10 increments to cover your meals and non-alcoholic beverages. We didn't find this out until our return trip ... a couple at the resort filled us in. [I complained about this to the vacation company upon our return and they upgraded our accommodations for the Orlando, Florida trip).  As for the island accommodations, we upgraded to an all inclusive resort.  The conditions were not fantastic, but they were decent for a location right on the ocean and not having to worry about meals.  We used the 3 day/2 night Branson trip late last year.  The accommodations were decent.

Of course, the catch is that we had to listen to the long, drawn out timeshare presentations at each of the locations.  However, I am very pleased to announce that we did not give in to the pressure.  :-)

In my opinion, the only real 'scam' part is the BONUS trip.  The Sierra Travel group in Casselberry, Florida handles the Bonus Fly Away portion of the package.  It can only be 'supposedly redeemed' after you obtain signatures from two of the vacation check in stations. We were hoping for the Honolulu, Hawaii trip.  However, I seriously doubt that this trip will happen because they do not return phone calls or respond to email inquiries sent via their website.  According to their customer service reps, there is only one person that handles the fly away certificates.  Oh well....

However, my husband and I now look forward to using the 5 day/4 night Orlando, Florida trip, and enjoying the two complimentary tickets to Disney World.

Be aware that all of Great Time Vacations, Coral Day Vacations, Sierra Travel, Fly Away are affiliated are a SCAM!  They state a different business name everytime and the receptionist is HORRIBLE!  Do not call or respond to these ads.  Unfortunately I did a year ago and still fighting with them!

Just so you all know, I did participate. The trips are real. I went to Orlando for 5 days and 4 nights and then on to Ft.Lauderdale.Airfare isn't included in the first part of the trip. The hotel/stay accomidations are not area attractions at the price you pay and you will have to add a rental car to that.I went to the Freeport Grand Bahama. The included accommidation was in town and not on the beach so I did upgrade and stay at the Club Viva Fortuna "Wyndam hotel property" which was an all inclusive resort for a fee of $1100.00 THIS IS A TIMESHARE DEAL! SO A PRESENTATION ATTENTANCE IS REQUIRED!

Receiving unwanted faxes.  One on 2/23/06 w/removal phone #866-844-3090.  One one 5/22/06 w/removal phone #877-401-4649.  And one today 3/27/08 w/removal phone #866-262-9033.  When you call this last one, you are asked for your fax number followed by the #.  However, the line cuts you off before you can enter the #.

A fax was sent offering super deals on cruises.  When I dialed the toll free number 866 412 7543, it said that all of the Sierra Travel Group lines were busy, please hold.  I am really tired of getting faxes from health companies and travel groups.  I always call the number to have my fax removed and I put my fax number of the do not call list with the government.  I am tired of having my ink and paper used up for someone's advertising.

It is NOT a self-executing contract.  Silence is not assent.  The TCPA laws make liability strict liability and the damages are statutory.  If you are going to talk like a lawyer, know what you are saying.

Sierra Travel is a California corporation.  I called pretending to want to buy a trip and someone named Mina answered.  I gave her a number to call me back at and she did.  I captured her number and linked it to the california corporation under the same name.  Mina is the owner.  I have filed suit.  She called me and tried to explain that it was a company in Florida.  I asked her why, when I called the number on the fax, she answered, took my number and called me back.  She busted.

Whomever this company is, they're faxing from the East Coast.  I'm in Utah, and the time on their fax is 2 hours ahead of the time here.  Also, you can sue the company $500 for each unsolicited fax, and $500 for their fax number not printing on the header.  Nice, huh?

Got an illegal fax from these clowns today.  I filed an electronic 1088 with the FCC within 10 minutes of receiving it.  For those who don't know, the electronic 1088 process is simple and actually works.  I file a 1088 for every illegal fax I receive and the FCC always sends an acknowledgment letter.  I have never received another fax from the same illegal faxer within days after filing the 1088.

Good Grief!  This is the 21st century!  You ALL have computers, but you receive your faxes with an old style fax machine?  With papaer?

Install a fax/modem.  Receive your faxes on your computer, print the ons you want.

Then, when you get one of these, simply fax it back to their 800 voice line... 500 times!  If we all did that, they would be unable to operate.

Unsolicited fax.  This is a scam.  5 Days 4 Night in Orlando, 3 Days 2 nights in Daytona Beach, plus 4 Day 3 night Bahamas Cruise.  Called number back, left message, they called back - said they were Sierra Travel Group.  Asked to be removed from Fax list.  Unlikely that will happen.  Check out http://www.junkfax.org for more ways to fight fax spam.

Received yet another spam fax from these crooks.  Called the listed "to be removed" number, which was not in service.  Called the "live person" number and was told (by a quite obviously uncaring person) that my number "would be removed within 72 hours" from their database.  When I started to describe the invalid number listed, I was cut off.  He'd hung up.

Received a fax-called them

"Asked how can I direct your call?"

When I asked her the name of the company, she asked me if I wanted to be removed from the fax list.

I asked her the name of the comapny. "Area Travel Group". Then she hung up on me. I called back. She hung up on me 4 times in a row. The fifth time, she put me on hold. So I used another phone line and got a guy. I asked for sales. He asked me how much the special was on the flier. I asked him if it mattered. He said, "Well, yea." Then I asked why. He hung up on me.

I called again, and the gal answered. When she asked where she could redirect my call, I said, "Sales, please." She said, "Ma'am, you already called me and asked to be removed from the fax list."

I said, "Actually, no. I never asked to be removed. I asked about your company. So why did you hang up on me?"

She said," Because I am supposed to answer the phone and either remove people from the fax list or redirect their call." So again, I asked for sales. She put me on hold.
