You don't want to give up your phone. Everybody needs to be able to call out in an emergency.
You could change your number but you might get the same problem. Your new number is someone else's old number. They probably got rid of it to escape the scam and spam phone calls.
You probably have a pretty good idea who calls you. Put those people in your contacts list and assign them a ring tone. Then set your default ring tone to "silence". That will send everyone except your contacts to voicemail without disturbing you.

Just sat here for over an hour looking up all the phone numbers on my cell that left no messages.
All but 2 were scams, also had signed up for No Call. This is why I got rid of landline. I just may give up having a phone ....Totally fed up.

This message is for you!. You are the Department of Justice. Telephone harassment holds a fine of $17,000 per incident. This does not include telephone crimes of scamming senior citizens, handicapped which can and usually does lead to .......not the pearly gates......, but the Iron Gates of prison more than likely for extortion.
Hey people, if they ask for your Social Security Number's they also can be convicted of Identity theft. When the companies name is reported on your credit reports you have the right to shut them down, or report them to the Attorney General's Office of your State and they will pursue to get you justice.

These telepests are a scam! At the very least, they conduct unusual, rude, and relentless matters. I blocked their sorry butts from ever calling again! Thet are cowards and they scramble their numer to appear as a random 800 number to make it difficult to block. Just block: 1-800-434-9145. Always ask for the number that they are calling from, and if it doesn't match your caller ID- ask them why this is? Then hang up and call them back but don't talk to them or give them ANY information. Find out how much they think thet know. Usually most of their info is wrong. Even if they do have correct info- HANG UP!! Block the number that they gave you too. Be Safe!!

At my old residence, my soon to be ex husband keeps getting calls from this number. They always they're 'HSBC" and that I owe money but nothing else is said on a message that has been left numerous times. At the beginning of this scam, they didn't ask for me specifically and he didn't try to contact them because it didn't sound important. After numerous call though, he grew concerned and found out that "HSBC' was calling about me owing money. Today, Sept. 20, 2011, they told him that I owe $142.00 and I'm overdue two months and I now owe $1,173.00 which needs to be paid by tomorrow. I've spoken to HSBC before to make sure that I do not in fact owe them any money. I just found out about this faulty number when my husband called me to tell me the latest news. I was really scared before I read this website because all of this wasn't adding up; the phone calls from "HSBC" and HSBC telling me that my account was clear.

My house phone has constantly been ringing in last couple of weeks from a caller ID "Card Service", phone number 800-434-4954. The caller never leaves any message but constantly calls every day, 8 - 10 times a day starting at 8am and some day their last call is 9pm. I called them back one time but first thing I heard was automatic voice machine asking me for full card number. No welcoming message or introduction of 'what card' or what bank that was. When I tried to press 0 to go to an operator, I was kept on hold with some music for the longest time until I couldn't bare it anymore so I hung up.
One of my roommates answered the phone one time and asked who they were. They said they were calling from HSBC. My roommate asked them to leave a message because the person they were calling was away. They refused and said this was personal business and hung up. An hour later they called again.
