Thank you for the info. I went on a Caribbean cruise and turned off everything except Wifi, specifically so that I wouldn't incur roaming charges. I still got charged $5.99 p/mins on 4 calls. Glad they added to a total of only 5 mins. Judging by the comments made here, it could have been been a lot worse. Now I'm hoping to learn of a way to turn the darned voice-mail off before the next cruise.

I had 6 calls to 805-637-7249, while in Costa Rica.  The total was $37 and of course T-Mobile refuses to do anything about it.  I did not make any phone calls and I only used my phone with the hotel wifi to access the internet for email.  When our contract expires, we will become T-Mobile ex-customers.

They are horrible thefts. They still millons of dollars from us just like this. Does any body know how to dispute the charges without having the line suspended?

it really sucks that tmobile seems to take advantage of customers when they are out of the country. they get you one way or another and add frivolous charges. does a big company like theirs need to gouge customers that way to make even more profit?

For my daily use I have HTC Amaze with the T-Mobile service. I flew to Costa Rica and used my old unlocked BlackBerry with a local SIM card. $5 was enough to cover my entire 3 weeks there using the local number. But my NYC friend pocked-dialed me 3 times while I was away and ended up costing me $30 like that. T-mobile charged me $1.99 per voicemail (as an item charge) plus every minute of the voicemail on the minute roaming rate for the country where I was. I checked my voicemail from skype on my computer by calling my line as an external caller and they charged me $9.95 for each voicemail I've listened to! BLOODY OUTRAGEOUS! My HTC Amaze was most of the time off and locked up in the safe. When I called them after the bill arrived, they kept rattling over and over that those are valid charges. I used to like T-Mobile because of how they worked abroad but no-longer. I will switch as soon as my contract expires and I will stop recommending T-Mobile immediately!

Also another thing...that I've found out if you don't sign up for this WORLD CLASS INTERNATIONAL SERVICE before you leave the country, you'll be charged even HIGHER rates when you turn on your phone EVEN when you don't answer it if it goes to Voicemail.

So, be careful.

I got same BS by T-mobile!

I was overseas and I didn't answer any unknown calls. Some idiot Spammer call me from 360-474-3940 and I didn't answer. It goes to VM.

Guess what? I was charged for BOTH the incoming call and VM International (805.637.7249) for $2.80 each..

T-mobile CS was able to give me credit for the incoming call and not the VM international call which they CLAIMED that I made that.. and not them.

BS!!

If you are out of the country, you can have t-mobile deactivate your voice mail.  If you don't answer your phone, calls will not go to voice mail.  I had to do that with phone my daughter was carrying in Spain, and avoided costly charges.

Incredible...  The 805-637-7249 number belongs to T Mobile.  Someone calls you and leaves you a message, which you do not retrieve, while you are overseas...  And T Mobile has the audacity to charge you for it ($4.19 per call in my case).  Then, if you do try to retrive it, T Mobile will charge you roaming to get it (e.g. $4.19 from Lithuania)...  That, my dear friends, is double dipping and should be illegal.  I Called T-Mobile and they IMMEDIATELY reversed the charges.  Just be polite to the rep when you ask for the credit... He (she) didn't charge you, T Mobile did.

This number is generatedT mobile voicemail. I was overseas at the time, had no voicemails and did not call to check but got slammed with a charge.T mobile know that this problem exists but their first response when you call customer service is always that you have to pay and he first level representatives will argue that it is not  their number Only when you insist on speaking to the supervisor do they acknowledge that the number is generated by T mobile and then they will remove the charge. It is a total SCAM

Yep - same happened to me - except this time I was charged $3.49 for every time a call went to voicemail - regardless of whether a voicemail was left or not.  They were very reluctant to give me credit saying that I should have called customer service before I left the country to ask them about their policy and they would have told me (nothing like having customer service try to play the blame game on you...definately don't do that with my clients).  Their website has no direct description of this policy on their website - just information on charges when you check your voicemail.  Further, their "what to do" guide says nothing about needing to log a call with customer service (this was explained as a factor in determining whether to credit your account for unexpected charges).  The manager I spoke to said that information about the "deposit bank" (or something of that sort - referring to where voicemails go when you're out of country) is on their site.  I looked for this as she was "checking my account" to determine whether to give me "credit" (she said their policy around giving "credit" has recently become a lot more strict).  Their was no mention about charges for merely having your voicemail hit by someone - she then said - "it says if you leave your phone on you may get unexpected charges" - pretty sketchy if you ask me...T-Mobile has definately changed...not the company it used to be...will be looking for a new carrier shortly.

I just recieved a huge roaming charge despite not using my phone abroad for anything but bbm and email and I cancelled my voicemail and was assured by customer service that i should not be charged for incoming calls that i would ignore. well i recieved this huge roaming bill with this number and an NBR unavailable listing. I was also charged for retrieving voicemail which i did not do as I cancelled VM and have argued with Tmobile for days on this huge bill as its incredulous. They keep insisting its valid. I think its important that customers should be made aware of this scam and i posted a link to this site on their facebook page.

I can understand everyone's frustration with T-Mobile's international policy. Knowing this If I ever go overseas or out of the country for any reason, my phone stays at home. I'll buy a prepaid phone wherever I go to. I don't work for T-mobile, I'm just a new customer, but compared to Virgin, T-Mobile is a pretty good bang for the buck on a pay as you go no contract phone and the service here in the US is great, So far.

Thanks for all Your input on this.
Merry Christmas to Ya'all :)

I was traveling to Vietnam a couple of times, and each time I got roaming charge at $5.99 per minute for this number 805-637-7249. In most recent trip, I always kept the phone turned off, but still got about $12 charge. The total charge for all my oversea trips for past 3 years is about $200 so far. It is ridiculous! I don't understand why until I have read comments from other T-Mobile phone users. So I am not alone. Thanks to those comments. I dislike this TM practice. I will switch to another phone provider shortly, get away from TM forever.

These reasons must be why when I first signed on with T-Mobile I was being charged more than the prepaid plan I chose. When I asked about it they said the extra, a bit less than $10.00 being charged to me was for International calling. I exchanged it for more 4g bandwidth and they credited me the international charges towards my next prepay bill.

On Thanksgiving Day 2011 I was out of the country, had purchased a local prepaid T-Mobile SIM card and made a call to a T-Mobile number in the US. That call went to voice mail and I hung up. The subscriber in the US called me back on my new local mobile number. I was busy and didn't answer. I called back later myself.

All this time my US T-Mobile SIM card was in my pocket, not in my phone. Given the US time stamp on the roaming charge on my bill I am absolutely, 100% positive that I had already switched to my local prepaid T-Mobile SIM card, yet I am charged a roaming charge for a call to (805) 637-7249.

Today I called T-Mobile and spoke with Ruby. All she said was that their system shows my US SIM card was still in my phone, so she couldn't reverse the charges. How do you deal with that? Switching SIM cards is a involved enough process that you don't do willy-nilly and I am 100% sure my local prepaid T-Mobile SIM card was in my phone.

Too bad that T-Mobile doesn't provide you with call records on their prepaid SIM cards, all they give you is the remaining balance.

My husband is in the military and we have used T-Mobile for almost 12 years (they were voicestream when we started the service).  Whenever he goes over seas we call and have the voicemail deactivated.  This was suggested to us by a T-Mobile representative. The roaming charges are based on the country you are traveling in and are what T-Mobile is charged by that country to have your phone roam on their network.  Even in Germany since the service is T-Mobile USA.  This representative also gave us the rates if my husband should need to make a call for each country he would be in.  International calling only gives you the ability to use your phone over seas it doesn't give you your home service rates while on another network.

When I was in Russia I received 2 charges on my September bill for 2 minutes total $11.98 or $5.99 bill per minute and $11.98 on October bill for the same thing. Ridiculous! I  called them and they credited my money back after an hour of arguing.
Last time I talked to them about I asked what should I do next time, why can't they charge me for when I check my VM not when my VM picks up, should I turn off my VM? They said yes, I can do that.
This is sucky service T-mobile!
As soon as  my contract is done I am switching!

I am going to sue them. T Mobile is a German Company. Would they rip Germans off the way they do it in the US? The answer is no? Why would do charge us for calls we are not even taking ! they have just charged me $75 dollars! i have no time to call their stupid CS. I am going to get in touch with the FCC and file a complaint. Will keep you all in touch. Nobody is going to get my hard earned cash just like that! I am willing to pay but I need to get something in return! What did I get ? A bill of $75 and nothing else from their stupid 805 #. TM See you in court

When I complained about $79 of roaming charges, none of the supervisors admitted the charge is made automatically-they claimed I was lying, and had indeed called voicemail!

They finally allowed me a 50% credit-on condition that I would not pursue this subject any further.

This is a sleazy and unethical policy.

Is it worthwhile complaining to the FCC?

Well this is crap.....  We do not even have T-Mobile so if this is a voicemail# why am I getting it on my bill.
I am with AT&T not T-Mobile. Was told someone spoofed our account and for us to report it to the FCC to see what they can do about it.
This is rediculious!!! and it needs to be stopped!
