I got the same massages as Cris, Michelle and Melissa.....saying they were going to come to my home or work within 24 to 48 hours and that I needed to have 2 forms of ID and that if they went to my job I need to have a supervisor present along with security to verify the serving if the summons they r going to b serving me with....I am not in any debt....do not owe any pay day advances etc......actually don't have any outstanding debts at all at this time!!! After researching these numbers and also checking with my local court records and documents, there is nothing at all outstanding against me legally!!! I'm going to report this to my local state attorney generals office along with making a police report, notifying my bank and the 3 major credit companies just to make sure I cover all basis after all I have read on here and on other sites that ppl wrote on dealing with similar issues.....also another number that these same ppl are using is.......855 420 8290 and when I called them back after hours their message only says...... You have reached legal services...please leave ur name and number and someone will get back to u....I never left a message!!!

HI, I Agree with you. I am getting the same messages several times now, but yesterday got one a little different. This one says the following: civil investigation action unit against me with affidavit number for a court action. It looks like a debt collector is trying to contact me, but for sure is a SCAM, otherwise they would sent me a letter with my personal info don't you think?

On Saturday, September 28 I also received a call from this number at 11:00am.  It was what appeared to be an prerecorded message of a woman that said the following: "We are going to come to your place of employment within the next 24 hours to deliver a summons.  I do need you to have 2 forms of ID available and your work supervisor or head of security will need to be available to sign/verify deliver of the summons. She said please call 855-213-2473 to reach the filing party with any questions regarding this matter."

I got that today, too!  I don't have any outstanding debts and I looked up my local courts online and nothing has been filed against me.  What a pathetic attempt at getting money!

Got a call today saying that the woman on the recording would be delivering a summons to my home within the next 24-48 hours.  She said a number, which I did not write down, that I could call to clarify the situation.  This was an obvious attempt to frighten me into who knows what.  Since I have no outstanding legal issues and a single bad debt, I wasn't too scared, but it is awful to think what a call like this might do to someone older or less intelligent.  Good luck in finding these scumbags.

Its extortion scam.. File a report with your states attorney general .. They do break FDCPA as well as TCPA laws doing this. So make sure you keep records and any phone messages.

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Debt Collector
They left a message for me at my parents house advising of a legal summons. I called them back and spoke to a lady named Amber who was actually very nice. Only problem is that this same company contacted me about 2 weeks ago from another number and had my correct phone number. At that time I spoke to a lady named Abigale who was extremly rude to which I told her my address and told her to have them serve me. Like I said no one ever showed up, and now they are calling my parents phone bothering them. I have not received any info from them to find out what this "outstanding balance" is about other than them telling me it was a bank in the bahamas that I owed money to and they filed a lawsuit and want to serve me unless I settled the debt over the phone. Blah Blah Blah, I want it in writing.

Just got same thing - same number. From a blocked number. I got brave or stupid and called them back after blocking my number  - female answered - said something about "legal outsourcing" before I hung up. I have not found any company tied to this number though.

I  received a recorded message several time, indicating they had a document "tied to my social security number" that was going to be forwarded to my local jurisdiction. Said his name was Mr. Pena. This is definitely scam, because the phone number I use is not registered under my name, I have automatic message for voice mail, so they don't know whom they are calling. Obviously, they don't tell my name in their recorded message because they simply don't know it. If that was a real case, first you would be receiving MAIL in your mailbox, not a call, and second they must at least leave you recorded voice message, something like: "Hello, Mr. Smith, we are calling you regarding...", don't you agree?

Recording that said they were holding a document that is 'tied' to my name and social security number; then left this phone number. Never gave a company name. I won't call them back.
