This was not a callfrom USNVA, it was a call from an organization that is collecting money and sending 20% of what they get to USNVA (I asked for specifics and was handed over to someone who gave me that figure.). If you want to give money to USNVA, go ahead, but don't do it through a for-profit scummy organization like ACS.

Annoying repeated calls. We don't answer them.

Received a call from this number saying that they were the Navy Veterans Assoc. or something rather and I said, "I don't live here" which wasn't a lie because I'm visiting a relative. The guy got angry and yelled "bye". He was very rude.

I have received calls from these jokers and others and have decided to try something. If I am at the computer, after checking that the caller id number isn't anyone I know, I look it up on google. I have DSL so if you have dial up, it won't work. Just put the number in and don't bother with the dashes. More than likely it will come up with responses like this. Before they go into their rants, I tell them that I have identified this as a scam call and it will be reported. It completly distracts them and sometimes they offer to take me off the list. Yeah, right. I will still look them up when they call again. It is nice to be in control and you can hang up satisfied rather than upset. Try it.
Oh by the way. In an older post, someone mentioned that the CEO's name is "nimitz". If he is refering to Chester Nimitz, he passed on in 1966 so if this organization says he is the CEO, they could at least find someone who is alive.

I have this number blocked. I have call screening. I am currently listed with the National "Do Not Call" Registry. The call from this number still came through AGAIN late Sunday night. These scammers should die a much worse death than cancer. A reward should be put out for them so we could hunt them. There's a job creation idea for Obama. These scammers steal from the elderly or anyone they can get to believe their lies. No different than using a gun to steal. Lock them up, fines aren't working. The fines are a joke. Just a fraction on the millions they're stealing. They'll never stop. JAIL & THEN NEVER ALLOWED TO OWN OR USE AN ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE FOR LIFE. Like not being able to drive after a DUI.

From the United States Navy asking for donations
Private Mary 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
Called Jan. 18, 2010 at 8:30 PM. No name just the 866 number. When I answered they hung up. Why do they bother calling in the first place if they are just going to hang up? I now have blocked their number.

Rec'd a call from this number Yesterday Sunday February 7th, 2010 @ 12:26pm MST (AZ time). A man asked for my husband by name and claimed he was calling from ACS and asked for a donation for the Navy. I advsd we don't have any extra funds right now. He said can I make a donation when things get better and I said once things do get better for us I might consider it. He took that to mean I would commit to a donation and asked if I would make a donation for $20, $30, or $40 and I again said, we currently don't have any extra funds at which time he h/u. This is a total scam. They do the same thing asking claiming they are collecting donations for the local police and to buy supplies for cancer patients.

These people have been calling my house every morning for over a week, but won't leave a message.
USN retired 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
I receive several calls a week for these Bozo's, being a 30 year plus Navy retiree, I know that this is not a legitimate organization. The Navy has their own organizations to assist. They may have set up some kind of website advertising their cause as supporting the Navy, but it is phoney. It does not meet the qualifications to be a charitable organization. Also why only the Navy, how about the other services, not sure how they get our number but could be through the VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans or the Fleet Reserve. There are thousands of rosters of these great organizations that are sometimes put in their bulletins and websites. But not to be used to scammers to use. Another tip off is why does it show Private Caller on my caller ID,, that's not a chairatable organization.
Daniel 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
I got a call from this number, the caller identified himself as being from "United States Navy Veterans Association", and he was asking for donations to send care packages to Navy servicemen. I asked a few questions and determined that it was another organization making the calls, and asked what percentage of the collections went to the identified charity. A "supervisor" came on and told me that 80% was used for administrative costs, and that 20% went to the charity. After that, they still had the nerve to ask whether I wanted to make a donation through them.
I'd suggest hanging up on the @#$@(#$**&^^&##^s when they call.

Who knows, they call all the time, I don't answer if I don't recognize the caller ID
RLF 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
Caller said he was with the ACS and calling on behalf of the U.S. Navy Veterans Association. I didn't give him time to deliver his spiel. Legitimate charity or not, I don't do phone solicitations, period. They share sucker lists with other charities and before you know it your are getting five calls a day for everything under the sun.

This number calls and no one answers. The phone seems to go dead. This call happens often and one time it was late at night.
AnnoyedinAZ 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
Received call at 8:46 pm. Caller stated his name (forgot the name) and asked for Mr/Mrs My last name. I asked which company was he calling for and then he asked if this was Mrs My Last Name. Asked again, he asked again. I asked again and then he hung up. I don't have caller id so I *69 and got 8668772493. If this was real charity they would identify themselves. SCAM.

I CALLED THE REAL US NAVY VETERANS ASSOC, @ 1-888-777-4443 & ASKED ABOUT THIS NUMBER & ASSOC, THEY SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THEM & WERE NOT ASSOC. WITH THE NAVY. THIS IS A SCAM TO GET MONEY & CREDIT CARD INFO. DO NOT GIVE, IF YOU WANT TO GIVE; CALL THE NUMBER ABOVE & LOOK UP THEIR WEBSITE ON GOOGLE, ETC. IMO, THE PEOPLE POSTING THIS NOTICE, "JD", SAYING THEY WERE TRUE, IS PROBABLY THE PEOPLE SCAMMING YOU, BE SMART, CHECK THINGS OUT B4 YOU GIVE TO STRANGERS ON-LINE, ETC.
noneofurbiz 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
You may be right, there may indeed be such an organization. However, I don't believe the caller involved is truly representing this organization. They do not conduct themselves in such a manner at all. While the organization may be real, these people seem to be attempting to scam people out of money in the name of this organization.

Called at 8:26 pm well after the cutoff time, especially when our number is registered with "do not call"
When answering machine picks up they hang up.
How do we get them to stop pestering people?
woman out west 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
I get a call from this number every month or so. If they are legit, how come their caller ID always comes through as "Not Provided" or "Unknown Caller". They never leave a message. I feel sorry for the college kids who are desperate enough for a job to work for any of these outfits (I was one of them years ago). They are simply pawns trolling for information under the guise of something that sounds like a noble cause.
Diana 2011-06-06 21:03:27 Unknown
Yeah, well, they still should not call before 9am.

I have received several of these calls from this number, but if I don't get it by the second ring, I get a dead call. I know that these are not illegal if they are true charities in Oklahoma, however, any type of Robo calling is. I did get the call on the first ring last night but declined to contribute. I ask him why it was specifically a Navy support Veteran Organization, And why he pronounced it "Vet-trans" instead of Veterans.
Oh well, I believe the call was legit but like most, I don't like my Telephone used as a marketing tool by others.
