It is Sallie Mae Financial. They are very persistent. My payment is only 11 days over due and they are already calling me. The lady even said that paying online wouldn't help that I had to do it over the phone with her. Don't trust them, rather do it the way I always do. Good luck to you.

They start calling once you are one day past due. They will call you up to 15 times a day. They start right at 8AM, and don't stop until right at 9PM. The operators tend to be quite rude, and try to threaten you. They even called me on Thanksgiving....

Went thru the same thing, My daughter had a loan thru GRC (sally mae) The loan was automatically taken out of account on the 25th of every month my daughter just planned for it and made sure the money was there. One month they did not take the automatic payment and they were on the phone on a Friday afternoon 10 days later to her to let her know they had not recieved their payment and she  asked why not? because every month you automatically take it out. They could not answer the question on why? but that she had to get a payment to them by 5pm. It was about 6 days later and we had closed the account that the payment was coming out of, so she could open another account closer to her own home. She offered to give them the new account # so they could have their payment right then and there and they refused they said they needed the money to be wired to them that day and if it was not then they will start ganishment on her wages. So my daughter called me and asked if I could take care of it for her, since she did not have the time. I said ok, so I called GRC and and, I tell you what. I have never heard a man be so rude. I had lots of options to pay and he just wanted the money wired. He also threatened me that they would just garnish her wages if I could not get that done for her. So I went to the nearest store got the wire and had to call them back with a number from the wire company and they would be sure to get them the money by the next day. It did not make much sense when I could have just paid with a debit or CC and they get there money ASAP.
It would not have been so bad, but they are the ones that did not take there payment on time so my daughter was the one that had to pay and be threatened.

Direct non Indian line to the f****rs at sallie mae.  Call and harass, call and bi***, call every 5 minutes if you can and waste their time which means waste their money.

Don?t give out your soc # or name, as they will ask.  Just call and calm as possible, let them know what f****rs they are or work for.  When they hang up, call again and do the same thing.  It won?t knock out your debt, but it feels f****ng good.

The best way to get them to stop calling is to give them the phone number of their State Attorney General in Ohio's Consumer Protection Specialist. Only don't tell them that is the number they are calling, just tell them to call  Bonnie at 614-995-1540 or even the AG number in your state.  Also, be sure to file a complaint with the ftc.gov.  Another tactic is to give them your U.S. Senator and Representatives numbers. Let them harass someone who has the clout to pull the plug and get something done about them.

Many of the things you said just can?t be true:

For example"

1. "All (calls) were received before 8am and another was received as early as 6:15am on Sunday morning!"   THERE IS NO WAY THIS COULD HAPPEN, UNLESS YOU HAVE A PHONE NUMER FROM ONE TIME ZONE AND LIVE IN ANOTHER. SAY YOU HAVE A NEW YORK PHONE NUMBER AND MOVE TO CALIFORNIA.  THE COMPUTER THINKS YOU LIVE IN NEW YORK.   THE PHONES ARE PROGRAMED TO REFUSE TO MAKE CALLS OUTSIDE OF 8 AM TO 9PM IN ANY PARTICUALR TIME ZONE.  EVEN IF A BORROW WANTED TO BE CALLED AT 7AM BEFORE THEY WENT TO WORK THE PHONES WONT DO IT.

2) While at work I also received a phone message from a family member saying that GRC had contacted them. GRC not only disclosed the dollar amount that I owed, but that I was delinquent and they inferred she would be responsible if they were unable to get a hold of me.

A.    WHEN PEOPLE TAKE OUT STUDENT LOANS THEY MUST GIVE REFERENCES TO CONTACT IN CASE THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE AND YOU CAN?T BE REACHED.   YOU GAVE THE GOVRNMENT AND COLLECTION AGNECIES PERMSSION TO CONTACT THSESE PEOPLE WHEN YOU ACCEPTED THE LOAN!!!!

B.    MANY PEOPLE WHO DONT PAY THEIR STUDENT LOANS ALSO DONT PAY THEIR RENT OR THEIR PHONE BILLS.  SO FREQUENT ADDRESS CHANGES AND PHONE DISCONNECTS ARE THE NORM.  WHEN YOU SIGN FOR A STUDENT LOAN YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY REPAYMENT TERMS.  THAT INLCUDES NOTIFYING YOUR LENDER IF YOU MOVE OR CHANGE YOUR PHONE.   IF YOU DON?T WANT TO LIVE WITH THIS, DON?T TAKE OUT STDUEN LOANS. IT?S THAT SIMPLE.    WHEN PEOPLE DON?T PAY THEIR STUDENT LAONS THEY TAKE FUNDS THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE AVAALBLE TO HELP OTHER STUDENTS AND THEY DRIVE UP OUR TAXES.

C.    99% OF PEOPLE WHO WORK AT GRC ARE POLITE PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW FTC RULES TO A ?T?.  THE PHONES ARE HEAVILY AND CONTINUOUSLY MONITIRED AND RECORDED.   IF ANYONE AT GRC DARED SAY SOMETHING NASTY THEY WOULD BE FIRED ON THE SPOT!!   GRC EMPLOYEES ARE JUST LIKE YOU. THEY HAVE BILLS TO PAY, KIDS TO FEED,   AND GAS TO BUY.   MANY HAVE HAD THEIR OWN FINCANCAIL PROBLEMS, BANKRUPTCIES,   ETC IN THE PAST.    AS LONG AS YOU ARE REASONABLY POLITE AND HONEST 99% OF THEM WILL WORK WITH YOU TO SET UP A REAPYMENT PLAN YOU CAN AFFORD, OR OFFER HARDSHIP PROGRAMS  FOR THOSE  WHO REALLY CANT PAY (EG: ON WELFARE, HOMELESS, ETC) .

D.    BY FEDERAL LAW A COLLECTOR CAN CALL YOUR REFERNCES AND ANYONE THEY HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THE PERSON COULD HELP CONTACT YOU.  (GIVE YOUR NEW PHONE/ADDRESS, TAKEA MSG, ETC).    IF A PERSON SAYS DON?T CALL BACK THAT IS NOTED IN THE FILE AND ABIDED BY.

E.    IT IS AGAINST THE LAW FOR A COLLECTOR TO TELL ANYONE OTHER THAN YOUR SPOUSE OR YOUR ATTORNEY (IF YOU ARE REPRESENTED) THAT YOU HAVE A   DEFAULTED STUDENT LOAN OR DON?T PAY THEIR BILLS.     IF A COLLECTOR   DID WHAT YOU SAID THEY WOULD BE FIRED ON THE SPOT. I DON?T KNOW ANYONE WHO WOULD BE THAT STUPID.  THEY MAY ONLY SAY THAT YOU GAVE THEIR NAME AS A RERERENCE AND CONTACT PERSON (YOU DID THAT WHEN YOU TOOK OUT THE LOAN!!!) AND WE CAN?T REACH YOU NOW.    THE ONLY THING A COLLECTOR CAN SAY IS THEY NEED TO CONTACT YOU REGARDING A BUSSINESS MATTER AND CAN?T REACH YOU.  THE OPTION IS TO GET WORKING PHONES AND ADDRESSES OR GET MESSAGES TO YOU BEFORE YOU GO FURHTER DOWN THE ROAD, RUIN YOUR CREDIT,   AND POSSIBLY END UP BEING GARNISHEED,   ETC.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO ALWAYS CONTACT ANY CREDITOR IF YOU CAN?T PAY A BILL.  THAT IS TRUE FOR ANY CREDITOR.   MAKE ARRANGMENTS; DON?T IGNORE THE CALLS AND LETTERS. AND ASK FOR HARDSHIP PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE WILLIAM D FORD PROGRAM IF YOU ARE TRULY UNABLE TO PAY (EG: ON WELFARE, HOMELESS, ETC). AND IF YOU DON?T LIKE A COLLECTORS BEHAVIOR OR WANT TO COMPLAIN ASK FOR THEIR SUPERVISOR. EVERBODY HAS ONE.   AND THE CALLS ARE REALLY MONITORED   AND/OR RECORDED, WHICH PROTECTS YOU AND THE COLLECTOR.

I made a $300 payment on-line yesterday to Salle Mae. I was called this morning by some guy from 877-672-9950. He said my account was in collections and that I should not have paid on-line to Sallie Mae; he asked me to canx the tranaction and pay him directly (yeah right)and that I shouldn't pay Sallie Mae in the future, that I should pay directly to the collection agenct. I was 2 months pass due, the $300 cuaght me up, so don't have a clue why I would pay anyone other than Salle Mae. When I refused to canx the transaction, he then stated that I still owed the collection agency $300.  I told him I would not pay a dime; my contract is with salle Mae and I will continue to pay Salle Mae.  I still get monthly electronic invoices from Salle Mae. Don't know what games these companies are playing but I was forwarding tothe AG's office.

The companies real name is GRC, or General Revenue Corp. They are owned by Sallie Mae and do all of their collections for the company. GRC's Info is below, along with 3 easy steps on how to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for Illegal Practices.

The following link takes you to a site which outlines what collection agencies are and are not allowed to do (like calling you outside of normal business hours at work, or whenever you specifically say it is inconvenient for you) - (http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/rules/collection-calls-5.html). They were recently sued for malpractice and if you read the link above you were probably a victim of malpractice, like myself. They are relentless!

BBB Representative,

I have mentioned several times to both to GRC (General Revenue) and Sallie Mae Representatives that it is both inconvenient and inappropriate when GRC (calling on behalf of Sallie Mae Collections) is calling me any earlier than 8am Pacific Standard time or on the weekends.

This morning (Sunday) as well as yesterday, I received several calls from phone number 877-672-9950 (GRC) without any voice message or contact information. All were received before 8am and another was received as early as 6:15am on Sunday morning! While at work I also received a phone message from a family member saying that GRC had contacted them. GRC not only disclosed the dollar amount that I owed, but that I was delinquent and they inferred she would be responsible if they were unable to get a hold of me. Obviously, this family member had no idea what the situation was and became frantically worried about me. She had no idea (nor had I at this point because no one had left a voice mail) that my account was only 10 days overdue and not one late fee had even been assessed yet! This family member is in no way related to these loans and was randomly called.

All of my information listed for Sallie Mae is both current and valid. I believe what GRC did by contacting someone about my debt and disclosing my financial information is bordering, if not blatantly illegal.

It is NEVER appropriate for any collections company to call my family member/neighbors/co-workers etc about my financial issues, nor do these have any influence in the situation. There would be no reason to contact them.

I have several Student loans through Sallie Mae and I have never made a payment more than 30 days past due.

I understand my rights and I have notified both Sallie Mae and GRC that I have reported them for poor business practices. If their employees do not know my rights they should have them review the following link:

http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/rules/collection-calls-5.html

Particularly Section 805(a): Collection calls to consumers. If it happens again, you may expect a call from my attorney.

This company called me over 14 times in two days.  I tried to call back and got a message that all operators were busy.  When I answered the phone, a computer voice asked me to verify that I was on the phone and once I hit one to confirm, the computer hung up on me.  If this is Sallie Mae, I'm a few days late on a payment, but I'm making the payment shortly.  I don't know why they are harassing me.

David Sedaris said it best "Sallie Mae sounds like a naive and barefoot hillbilly girl but in fact they are a ruthless and aggressive".

You want rid of Sallie Mae, don't pay your bill, let it go into default and it will be bought out by the government.  Then it's a whole new animal.

What sucks is this government who has made getting an education (something the people who work for SM clearly don't have) burdensome, without offering any sort of relief by the possiblity of bankruptcy.

I must say that Sallie Mae is the absolute WORST company I have ever dealt with.  I have had to act as if I am going to apply for a loan to even talk with a real person and no two people give the same information.  So much for higher education!  They most certainly do not care about customer service and as far as I can see on their website, there is no way of making ANY type of comment unless you want to owe them more money.

I got 11 calls in one day on my cell phone. I auto dialed and got Sallie Mae but what was weird is that they did not answer the phone as Sallie Mae but recognized my cell phone ID and mentioned if I was the name that appears. Very strange reply when I complained on the harrassment of that many calls. She explained that the numbers are on automatic redial untill the bill is caught up. What was also strange was the fact that my bill was not even 30 days late and I was already being called by this so called collection dept. They immediately asked me to make a payment over the phone and I said I would send it in the mail. I din't get the feeling I should trust this caller. Also notice if you have Sallie mae Financial statements, the number on it is entirely different from the one the ones that I got from them as missed calls. Too strange for me. If someone has a friend as an investigator they ought to look into this, even if it is out of curiosity because looking at all the other reported comments, something smells kinda fishy!
