In order to file a complaint with the FCC or in state court you will need proof of the calls. What I do is take a photo of my phone by placing it on the black surface of my stove with the fan light on overhead. The flash from my camera captures the date, time, and phone number of the telemarketer call. I can then transfer the photos to CD as evidence of the calls. Here are the instructions for complaining to the FCC:

How to Complain to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission)
Filing a Do-Not-Call Complaint

In addition to complaints alleging violations of the national do-not-call list, you may also file a complaint against a telemarketer who is calling for a commercial purpose (e.g., not charitable organizations) IF:

The telemarketer calls before 8 AM or after 9 PM; OR
The telemarketer leaves a message, but fails to leave a phone number that you can call to sign up for their company specific do-not-call list; OR
You receive a telemarketing call from a company that you have previously requested not call you; OR
The telemarketing firm fails to identify itself; OR
You receive a pre-recorded commercial message from someone with whom you do not have an established business relationship and to whom you have not given permission to call you.
Send it to:

They won't take you off the list and may call you more often, like they did me. I have told these people not to call me and they continue to call more often. It is not just for breast cancer, but also Fire Fighters and even Police kids programs, supposedly. We all need to contact the California Attorney General, which is one thing Brown did right as Attorney General, he went after bogus charities. This is a multi-million dollar scam folks. Do the math.

There are 800,000 residents in my county alone, so at $15 each, how much is that? It is $21 million!! However they are making these calls in more than one county and more than one state. The callers have told me there is an exemption from the "DO NOT CALL" law for charities. I doubt that, but these are not charities calling, it is a phone bank.

I plan to write Breast Cancer and Firefighters to threaten legal action. Would you care to join me?

>>> I receive a call from this number and many others the person asked for wren. When in tell them you have the wrong number they insist on talking to this wren person then hang up. <<<

They aren't asking for ***Wren,*** they're asking for ***Ren,*** as in "Happy, Happy!  Joy, Joy!":

http://nicktoons.nick.com/videos/clip/happy-happy-joy-joy.html

>>> What can I do to find out who is doing this. <<<

Well, if it isn't Ren's agent with a new gig for Ren, probably not enough.  I suggest instead that you read up on the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) and on the telephone harassment laws of your state and report the calls (with as many details, times, and dates as possible) to the FTC and your state's Attorney General's office.  You might not get immediate satisfaction, but both these offices have more resources than either you or I have to locate the caller and to take action.  Eventually, they will take action if enough people complain.  (Remember that even with all the tools available to them, it is still difficult and expensive for them to find people who may be hiding behind a spoofed or even a legitimate telephone number, especially if they are outside the US or Canada.)

You can also consult with an attorney in your jurisdiction if you want.

For more immediate relief, ask your phone company if they offer caller ID filtering (also known as call blocking) and learn how to use it.  If they don't, and you have a landline phone, consider getting a phone with call blocking capabilities or an external device that provides this capability.  You can also (usually for a fee) port your number over to an Internet telephone service that provides blocking and other facilities to make it harder for unwanted callers to get through.  Three that I know about are voip.ms, callcentric.com, and anveo.com.  I haven't used all three of these services, though.

If you have 911 service on your line, make sure that it can be provided by whichever service you choose.

I would also recommend Google Voice, but that seems to be going away in about six or seven weeks.

They call at least once a day. One time my wife answered she told them to stop calling he called her a w***e and a stupid a** I took the phone from her and told themiI had reported them. Calls went away for a few days but now I am getting the again. What can I do to find out who is doing this.

Unfortunately we are members of the Unwanted Phone Calls Club.  Maybe we should organize, call ourselves a charity and then call the unwanted phone callers and ask for a donation. Seriously though, if we could become allies with someone that can set up robot callers, we could gather all the numbers from unwanted callers and have our robot call them incessantly.

Sorry, no can do.  This website is not owned or maintained by your callers.  You will have to report these callers to the FTC and FCC yourself.   Depending on your phone service provider, you may be able to sign up on http://www.nomorobo.com/ - that should help stop the worst of these calls.  Other than that, just block the number.

Have received several calls from this number and did not know who they are, until reading this board.  Another one to watch out for is from Children's Cancer Fund. Once you talk to them, or actually donate, they never leave you alone.

1/5/14 10:39 PST  Once again, called, but only rang once, even though have not officially blacklisted on call blocker.  It appears NOMOROBO works well against robotic phone calls.  I'm sure this type of scam and/or harassment will eventually find a way around our blocking, but if we refuse to answer the phone unless we know who is calling, maybe we will be able to free ourselves.  Having had the same # for 40 yrs., I don't see why I should have to try to change my number!!

1/5/14 10:39 PST  NOMOROBO seems to be working well.  This # shows on ID as "unavailable" but only rings once on my end, even though I haven't had to add to my blocker.  Clear indication that these are robotic calls.  I will continue to report, so others know that they shouldn't answer calls from this number.  Eventually, maybe, we can take our lives back from scammers, crooks and cranks, and convince folks to get caller ID and answering machines.

12/27 20:05 PST Guessing this is a robo call since only rang once and not on my call blocker.  Truly dislike getting unidentified calls this late in the evening.  In my case no ID and since I don't recognize number, wouldn't have answered.   Wish there was something more I could do to stop this garbage.

Very strange:  I answered, a woman's voice asked for my housemate by her first name.  I said (as I usually do), "Who's calling, please?"  LONG pause, then the same woman's voice, "Oh, this is just a courtesy call.  Are they available?"

THEY?  I said, "Do you even know whether you're asking for a man or a woman?"  Even longer pause, and I hung up.  Obviously this is a series of recordings, with someone listening in and pushing buttons to play back one or another.

Every night around 8:30-9 this breast cancer charity calls. The only way I know that is when I call Back and that's the message. Tonight a woman called and asked for me, when I replied, she just said, I've got no message for you and then hung up. Has anyone tried reporting this to the local authorities as harassment?? Something must be able to be done, I will continue to research this until they are shut down. Very strange and unacceptable.

The call comes in as Breast Cancer Charities of America. When you press 8 it states they are a professional fund raising company. Not gonna get my money, no matter how many times you call. I will give only to non profit organizations and who give at least 90 percent of their proceeds to the charity. Recommend to the rest of you, if you have Brighthouse, go into my services section and block the number, that is the only was to stop them. Til they move on to a new phone number. Report the harassment online to FCC.

These people call several times a day. They'll call, I answer, they hang up, then call back immediately. Repeat.
I am living in my elderly father's home and recently had to move him to a facility as he is very ill.  His number receives literally 10 to 15 calls a day from 877 numbers.  Prior to my moving in to care for him, he was giving his credit card info to anyone claiming to be a charity.  I had to close all his accounts, cancel his credit cards, and re-open everything under different account numbers.  They prey on elderly people!  I have gotten a very loud whistle and, when I see a toll free number or any 877 number, I answer and blow that thing as loudly as I can.
They are still calling!  There has to be some way to stop this without changing his number.  Too many friends and old clients of his are calling to check on his condition and give me messages for him.  I don't even know who they are or what they want.  They just ask for him and when I say he is no longer here, they hang up.
