Got a call today - they been calling and not leaving a message.  Being that I was in one of my moods I picked it up.  Guy plays like he can save me money on my verizon bill.  I told him I had a 2 yr. contract.  He said no problem we can get you out of that and started the spheel that due to government regulations they can save us money.  Since I knew where he was coming from I said "Being I have a contract - do you represent Verizon?" He said what? so I repeated it - he said "No" so I said ok, thank you and hung up.

Same things as these others - monotone male voice wanting to speak to whomever handles our Verizon account.  "We can save you money, blah, blah..."   I said, "Can you email me the information - I am on the phone with CUSTOMERS who are more important than you this minute."  He said, "Then we will just keep charging you the higher rates."    What an A**!

So I called them BACK - was told it is SPECTROTEL from Neptune, NJ and explicitly requested to be removed from all future calls, otherwise I am going to the FTC.

YES! They are scammers and are very rude.   What a disgust to know that there are people in this world who profit by scamming other people and lying.  Imagine going to work each day, knowing that you are going to work to scam, lie and make other people's lives difficult.

When I answered, a man asked to speak to someone in accounts payable about our Verizon account. I asked him what it was in regards to, and he basically repeated what he had said. When I reiterated that I needed to know the purpose, he once again repeated himself and added that "that was all you will ever know." Not one to give in to rude people, I told him that I unfortunately could not pass the call on to anyone without more information. And with a huff, he hung up.

Ok, so Surf Tone is a wholesale phone company, what happens is they lease lines from Verizon, so although SurfTone is your provider, Verizon ownes the actual Telephone lines, if something breaks or having phone problems mu contact Surftone, and they will send verizon out to fix line.... I verified all this info with  Verizon so it is true, we actually tried suftone and our bill did drop and we get the same service,

Received a call from a person that said they could lower our office phone bill by 1200 dollars a year.
Acted like I was a fool when I said I didn't believe him.  He said we would keep our service with Verizon, the only thing that would change was our bill.  Told him I would look into the company first and he said good luck and then hung up

A female called.  She said she was connected with Verizon and could save me half the amount I pay to Verizon, including long distance.  She said if there was a problem, the Verizon service truck would come within 12 hours instead of 48 hours.  I said that I would check with Verizon and get back to her.  She wanted to know why would I call Verizon.  I said, you just said you were connected wih Verizon.  She said well, we use their lines like AT&T or any other company would use their lines, that the bill would come through Verizon but at a cheaper rate.  I said I would check into it and get back to her at the number on my phone.

I got a call from the new # they are using it is 702-688-5019. I told the guy I was not interested. He said to stay on the line to confirm he was polite and that I did not want the service. He then punched in all the ansewers from his end and it asked me to confirm that I wanted to change my service and not to hang up cause it would cancel the change of service.Thats right I hung up and called verizon. They have called 20 plus times since I opened 2 months ago. My verizon customer service rep had never even heard of suftone.

Same thing.  Posed a company working with Verizon (and in a sense, they are - Verizon allows third parties to post orders to change carrier service)

I got a call from them.  In a moment of profound but fortunately temporary stupidity, I actually gave them the go-ahead to transfer to them as a carrier for local, regional, long distance.   About a second after hanging up, my brain resumed functioning.  After 5 pm, so I couldn't get through to anyone at Surftone or Verizon.

If you find yourself in this position:

1.  Call Surftone & give them the telephone numbers you ordered & tell them to cancel;

2.  Call Verizon, explain what happened, and then ask for a freeze on all your services.  This means that no third party can go to Verizon with an order from you and change services.  You have to call in to lift the freeze.  Freezes are free and last until you lift them.

Bottom line:  Don't be me.  Hang up on them.

The phone number I received SEVERAL calls from is : 702-688-5019
They are very confusing in their sales pitch (claiming to be from Verizon, or somehow affiliated with a government program to break up monopolies.....finally admitting they represent "Surftone").
I was assured that Verizon would remain my carrier but the bill would be lower.
Seems they just say anything and try to be as evasive as possible. I asked for details in writing repeatedly, which he would not provide even after I said I don't agree to anything over the phone.
He was really persistent, but I said I would need to look into them further, to which he replied "fair enough"(!), and I subsequently found this thread. I am extremely wary of too-good-to-be-true offers since I was suckered by Clearwire's lying reps a year ago - what a nightmare! they wanted to charge a $200 cancellation fee for their "free" trial! Once bitten twice shy.

Called again today asking to speak with person handling verizon account, and I told them that I googles them after speaking with verizon yesterday and am aware that they are a scam and that they should remove me from their call list, and for verification of the information I gave them today they will find that there are locks in place with my verizon account.

How lucky I am, I received a call from Surf Tone last Friday - the woman told me that they were with Verizon and could cut our phonebill in half. The same story as above..... Yesterday "John" from Surf Tone called me again, stating that they could not switch our numbers because Verizon had put a block on it! Well, THANK GOD they did! It saves me a lot of troubles having to cancel and reverse my phone lines again.

I just wanted to add, I am familiar with all so called "phone companies" Because of us consumer we broke the monopoly in telecom in the late 90's so now you have all kinds of small re-sellers, or ILECS, RBOC and so on. If u understand networking you'd know most companies that are not a cable company, AT&T, Verizon, Qwest are resellers! They lease the lines usually from the LEC. Whens the last time you saw a surftone truck or commercial. They are small independent companies Look how many providers you can find in the front of your local yellow pages. My best advise is that if you are seriously interested in considering proposals for services for your business that you reach out to a "No Fee Consulting" company!!! Let them do the leg work to provide you with valid offers for your services. Now this would be B2B only.

Not that I am defending the company, i'm not I represent a National Telecom Consulting Firm that takes customers who are tired of receiving calls or don't have the man power to pay attention to the bills for accuracy or simply lack the knowledge or know how and provides them with proposals from the large companies like AT&T or large resellers like Paetec, or Integra, Mci, etc and even the little to be known about companies Surftone, Clearrate, Impact and so forth. So if there are any companies that really want to pursue an audit of their services for FREE and would like to see what out there is being offered for their services fell free to contact me directly at:

Either you can or you can't
You do or you don't
You will or you won't
There are no in-betweens
"EITHER DO THE RESEARCH OR LET SOMEONE DO IT FOR YOU"

We have to stop thinking of telephone service as a liability! It's an asset! Clearly you don't just keep driving your Benz without a check up and i'm sure most of you are not mechanics! And just because you drive it everyday and pay the note doesn't mean you understand the components it takes to run that machine!!!! Telecommunications are changing the world and either you get with the times or you get left behind.

Please feel free to contact me, yest a little cheap advertising but i'm in a recession and seemingly some of you businesses need me!

I switched my phone service to Surftone about six months ago. I'm now looking for another service. Surftone is second rate. They aren't on the "up and up".
I was promised a considerable discount when I first switched over. When I got my first bill, the discount was about 1/2 of what they said it would be.
I believe that their sales reps routinely lie. It's their sales strategy. I have several lines, switching to another carrier is involved and wastes time. They figure once you switch to Surftone, you are locked in. The salesperson, Leslie, who sold me the deal in writing, wouldn't return my calls. She was still there, only in hiding.
I had to work my way up the chain to get what I was sold in the first place. It took over a month. Several follow up calls. The guy who finally honored the deal I was promised was named James. (They don't give out last names. I wonder why?)
Surftone bills in advance. Their competitors do not. They threaten to shut off service if you don't pay within 20 days. In other words, they hold a gun to your head to pay for services that they haven't even rendered. I will switch as soon as a another company makes me an better offer.
These guys suck. Do yourself a favor, don't switch.

Just received this same call from "Surftone Communications". Same rhetoric about saving me money, Verizon is a monopoly etc.. and all I had to do was take 90 seconds to answer a few questions and my bill would be reduced, Verizon would still be my company etc. When he started to ask me about telephone numbers, company name etc.. I told him I wasn't interested and hung up. I have received this call many times, always with a different lead in, but the same "promise" of lower rates and the same level of service.

Computer generated call to my business phone on SATURDAY afternoon.  When the person came on the line he said he was with Verizon (my telephone company) and said they were going to reduce the phone bills of their small business customers due to new Federal Regulations.  All I had to do was answer ten questions and my bill would be reduced.  I asked several questions, such as:

Q.  Will Verizon still be my telephone company.
A.  Verizon will still be your company, only your bill will go down.  You'll be getting a bill from us, instead of Verizon.  Verizon will be your phone company but we'll be servicing your account for them.

Q.  So you're not Verizon.  Who are you?
A.  The company is called Surftone Communications.

Q.  Sounds too good to be true.  Can I call you back.
A.  Call us at (800) 755-8551.

I have gotten calls from these guys MANY times at work.  One time TWO GUYS, big intimidating guys in suits, came into my office and said they were from Verizon and were going office to office to help us save money on our bill.  They grabbed my telephone, dialed a number, and started talking to "the home office".  They then put me on the line and asked me to just answer some questions they'd ask me.  The whole thing was so intimidating and fishy.  After they left I called Verizon and asked about it and they said it wasn't Verizon!  They put a special lock on my account so it cant be "slammed" this way again.

Telemarketers and scam artists should be put away in prison for a LONG time!

Called and talked to my employee claiming to be with Verizon. When I got on the phone and said I had the Verizon business office put a note in my file that I did not want any sales calls he said he wasn't with Verizon. I asked him to put me on the "do not call list" and he said his company doesn't have a do not call list because the government wants them to call everyone to tell them that Verizon is "ripping you off." When I tried to get more information about the company so I could report it, he hung up on me.

Picked up call at work from this number. Guy who called asked for the person who handles our Verizon account with a stern voice which I guess is meant to get past less experienced employees or something. I asked what this was concerning and he irritatingly responded "Your Verizon Account". I then asked "Are you with Verizon?" and he hung up.

As soon as I answered the phone with my biz name, they hung up on me.  That alone is reason to believe it's a scam, and I, too, will be watching my bill for any hanky panky.  Gawd, I wish these jerks would leave us all alone!!!!!!
I called *69 to get the number, but didn't want to call it back even to get the name of the company -who knows but what that wouldn't generate a huge bill.
