I have caller I.D. when I see a number I don't know, or it is an "800" like this one 888-386-7797 I do not answer my phone.  The have called me several times in the last few weeks.  They do not leave a message, and all I have is the number, I "Ggoogle-it" to see if it is a valid business trying to locate me.
When I do and locate information on number I find they are a troublesome outfit, trying to bilk people.
So glad I can do this and identify a possible headache; avoid answering the phone if you know it is not a number you are familiar with, of course you do need Caller ID.
Hope this helps someone else avoid these leeches.

I don't know who these people are.  I have caller screening service -- I did the *60 and blocked 888-386-7797 and somehow the calls still come through, not sure if they are really calling from that number.  I would suggest picking up, answering, waiting for them to come on line and then blasting them in the ear by pressing a number before hanging up on them.

I received this call today, I have received several from similar numbers in the last few weeks.  I am concerned that this is "Tied" to an attempt from my Wachovia Bank to get me a 'new' Credit Card.

That event first happened on February 11, 2011.  The bank person Maria, offered to do this for me, it was not my idea.  Since then I have learned on television, that a lot of employees at Wachovia/Wells Fargo have been 'busted' in North Carolina, for the same thing as it was an identity theft ring.  I receive an average of 7-9 calls a week from silent callers with an 800 style number, I have tried to speak with this person, left messages to call me even with her Manager, and Branch tellers as well; I have expressed my concern to the Bank, several times.

So far, no calls or e-mail from Maria, and no Credit Card either.  I felt I could trust this person, as she and I have spoke to each other at length for the last 6 years.  I now feel worried that something else has gone on other than requesting my Credit card...
Funny thing is my Chiropractor upon hearing my story said the same thing happened to him!  He banks with Wachovia but in an entirely different city!  He did not want a card, thought it would be a miracle if they got him one, and he too has not heard from anyone!
Be Wary!  Be Very Wary of any Bank offers for anything!

This is the latest phone number used by the Fair Trade Authority scam.  800-323-1007 is another number they use apparently. The description posted is identical what happened to me: This number calls and they say this hi this so and so from FTA and they are calling about your merchant account.  Right now it looks like it is being run through a third party that deposits into your bank.  Does that sound familiar?  Ok, well whats happening is FTA is actually apart of the main network on the back end that offers the service down to all the banks and resellers in the first place.  Now because of your company's longevity and industry type the person calling was placed in charge of deciding if you are low enough risk to finally start processing on the main network instead of through a reseller.

The woman I talked to made it sound like we were in danger of being rated as a high-risk and losing our merchant account if I didn't talk to her and give her the information she wanted. She wanted to know if our average transaction is "still" $150.00. That's never been our average transaction and is not what we put on our merchant account application when we got it 10 year ago. This was a fishing expedition - throw out a number and see if I contradicted it.

She kept saying that she would "notate my file that I was uncooperative" - Obviously, an intimidation tactic.

If they call back, I'll give them false information, setup an appointment with them, and give the constable's office as my address.
