No, not easily and that's because AMT operates just on the legit side of the line between legit and scam. Scam enough that victims may not know how to get their audit $rebate and/or may not know their software "free trial" turns into a live $subscription if they fail to cancel in time. Legit enough so processed credit card charges can't be clawed back and the law may not prosecute them but if you lost money, you can try complaining to the FTC https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ , and your state's and Utah's Division of Consumer Protection http://www.consumerprotection.utah.gov/ and see what shakes. The best thing to do is stay far away from AMT.

I have the same exact letter as the previous post.  I am so glad I researched the number to find out it is a scam.  I live in NY and they do have my first mortgage amount and monthly payment amount and date of when I purchased my home.

2/10/2012 I got a letter from "Mortgage Auditing Program" which stated the exact dollar amount of my last mortgage and a close (but incorrect) signing date. That was creepy. Our information is so public.  The letter claims that I "may be owed a refund of several thousand dollars." It says to call 888-565-1179 and gives a "reference case number" to make this scam look legitimate.  I hope no one falls for this.  They are trying to prey on victims who might be fooled by the timing since the $26 billion foreclosure settlement with five of the largest home lenders was just issued.

Yes, I do! I came to this thread from http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-681-9902 where ObservantEyeInLasVegas posted on 9 Feb 2012 that 888-565-1179 is the number from his/her letter (if you don't see it on page 1, it may have been pushed down to page 2 or 3 by new reply posts). Letters typically offer a mortgage audit for $149/$199/$249/$269 (price has varied over time) with full or partial refund if nothing's found. Also, the company may be changing marketing tactics and are calling victims instead of mass mailing letters. "Refund" is deceptive because it's really a rebate, not a refund, where you have to APPLY for a rebate of your own money if nothing's found on the audit. You'll also be signed up, possibly behind your back, for a negative-option, 30-day free trial, $49.95/month 30to8 Debt Software (accounting software) that has NOTHING to do with the audit. If you don't take positive action to cancel the free trial, it will turn into a live subscription and your card will be auto-charged with NO REFUNDS.

The company is AMT Auditing Services, LLC but doing business as CRM Ventures LP, Enlightened LLC, and Mortgage Auditing Program. BBB listing http://www.bbb.org/utah/business-reviews/loan ... ork-ut-22302183 (scroll down all the way down to the bottom for Alternate Business Names) with F=FAIL rating and 15 complaints, 9 of which were not responded to. A previous time I looked, the count was 13 complaints with 7 unanswered so it appears that AMT has completely stopped responding to BBB complaints.  At one time, AMT's websites (amtdivision.org, deadpanham.com) displayed the Wells Fargo bank logo along with 5 other banks', and the BBB report states "Wells Fargo has stated to the BBB: "Wells Fargo has no affiliation with this company. In addition, this company is not allowed to use the Wells Fargo logo without our express permission. Doing so is a violation of our intellectual property rights."" The bank logos then vanished from AMT's websites.

amtdivision.org http://www.who.is/whois/amtdivision.org/ was registered 03/07/2011 to a domain proxy by an owner who does not want to be found.

deadpanham.com http://www.who.is/whois/deadpanham.com/ is registered to a David Scheuneman, 702-530-9376, 2006 Hollywell St, Las Vegas, NV 89135. Only days ago, the number on the registration was 702-555-1212 which is simply Directory Assistance for area code 702 and it was only recently changed to 702-530-9376. "david" posts on 4 Feb 2012 http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/8888520568 "I am the owner of "deadpanham.com"" (note present tense), that he is the unwitting victim of a hijacked domain and that he has nothing to do with AMT. If what "david" says is true, then it's his responsibility to get his ID off deadpanham's registration or reclaim the domain from AMT and until he does, his name will be associated with AMT's activities on deadpanham. "david" can also report it to the FBI. And what sort of a website name is deadpanham anyway for a professional business offering mortgage audits?

AMT Auditing Services, LLC's Utah business license https://secure.utah.gov/bes/action/details?entity=7968758-0151 is registered to Mark Sullivan 826 EAST STATE RD STE 210 AMERICAN FORK UT 84003. See that "Company Type: DBA" on the second line? AMT Auditing Services is really a DBA despite having "LLC" in its registered company name. What legit DBA company uses "LLC" in its business name? This actually fooled the BBB into listing AMT as a LLC for many months but it's been corrected now.

Utah state law requires all businesses including DBAs to be registered http://corporations.utah.gov/pdf/buslicguide.pdf "Who Must Register Their Business?  All businesses in Utah are required by law to register with the Utah Department of Commerce either as a "DBA" (Doing Business As), corporation, limited liability company or limited partnership. Businesses are also required to obtain a business license from the city or county in which they are located." but only AMT Auditing Services LLC (and it's a DBA, not a LLC) and Enlightened LLC https://secure.utah.gov/bes/action/details?entity=7807703-0160 have Utah business licenses. Therefore the remaining 2 DBAs without business licenses -- CRM Ventures LP and Mortgage Auditing Program -- must be considered to be fake businesses. CRM Ventures LP used to have a separate BBB listing with an A rating and I'm glad the BBB has removed that listing and now CRM Ventures LP must share the same F=FAIL rating with AMT. Mark Sullivan was also listed as the business contact on the old BBB listing for CRM Ventures LP (he may still be), is the registered agent on the Utah business license for Enlightened LLC, and is the Company Contact on the BBB listing for AMT Auditing Services LLC.

AMT Auditing Services LLC doing business as AMT Division has sent out similar letters offer mortgage audits as reported by posters here http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-681-9902  Poster "Zipty" at the bottom of page 1 seems to know a lot about this operation. Poster "Former Employee" writes on 9 Feb 2012 http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-681-9902/8 "After only two months I knew something was up and talked to one of the "auditors. They are regular employees with no special knowledge or training. One of them was honest with me and said that he has only seen two people get refunds ($200 or less) in the 8 months he has worked there" and "Its all about the Software they are trying to sell!!" which is the 30to8 Debt Software described below because it's a bigger money maker for AMT than the audit. The audit is just the come-on, the software is what the scammers REALLY want sell you. AMT Division also does not have a Utah business license in apparent violation of Utah state law.

Colton Moody is listed on AMT's BBB report as Manager and a principal in The Summit Group of Utah LLC http://www.bbb.org/utah/business-reviews/trai ... ehi-ut-13002802 with a F=FAIL rating, 96 complaints, 1 settled and 1 pending Government Action against it (well worth reading). TSGOULLC's business license is registered to Colton Moody as well https://secure.utah.gov/bes/action/details?entity=5394161-0160 but which is expired as of 12/27/2011. If you google, you'll find many complaints by victims who paid TSGOULLC and its DBAs many $thousands up front for coaching seminars on how to start web businesses and TSGOULLC allegedly failing to deliver on them.

Anyone is welcome to search here https://secure.utah.gov/bes/action for Utah business licenses.

If you buy the audit, you'll get a piece of paper that may say you are owed a refund on your mortgage. However, converting this piece of paper into cash is quite another matter. Patrick says here http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-656-9964 on a similar audit offer that "When I asked what is the likelihood of them finding some mistake and me getting a refund from the bank, he indicated that "honestly" very rarely does it happen" and that's because lending papers are pretty much standardized, even ARMs. Lenders know what they can get away with and what they can't. Think your lender will refund money just because you have a piece sof paper from an unlicensed fake company you gave $149/$199/$249/$269 to? Lenders have signed mortgage notes in hand and will fight you tooth and claw in court (if one homeowner wins a refund, others will follow). One huge difference is your mortgage note is already legally enforceable in court; your piece of paper is not and you'll have to hire an attorney at $hundreds/hour for months/years to try to convince a court that you have a valid refund. Think it's worth the risk?

Beware the "refund" offer is actually a rebate and not a refund http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-refund-and-vs-rebate/  To get your money back, you have to find the rebate form on amtdivision.org, fill it out and send it in within a 45-day time window allegedly starting from when you receive audit results. AMT has also tried to hide the form by moving it around on their website so posting a link for it here is unreliable, try googling "amtdivision.org rebate form". Beware any or all the rebate terms (45-day window, etc.) can change anytime so the best thing to do is to get the form and follow the instructions on it. Do not wait passively for your "refund," it will never show up, you must take positive action to find the rebate form and APPLY for it.

If you buy the audit, you will also be signed up for a negative-option, 30-day free trial of $49.95/month accounting software called the 30to8 Debt Software designed to save you $thousands in scheduled mortgage interest (you can also use it for all sorts of debts). DON'T BUY IT! There is nothing magic about the software, it uses the well-known method of principal prepayment and you can get the same or BETTER results if you prepay your loans yourself without the software. The 30to8DS is a recent version of United First Financial's Money Merge Account that has been thoroughly debunked here http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/741118/ with a Quick Summary on page 1. In fact, mikef07 states at the top of http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/741118/?start=914 that "The results do show that by using the MMA software it would cost me $5070.29 extra" than doing it on his own and that was when the MMA was $3,500. The present value of $49.95/month for 8 years (assumes you can pay your 30-year mortgage in 8 years as suggested by the website name 30to8 and it's not easy) at 1% APR (what savings accounts are giving) is $4,600 so mikef07 would lose 5070.29-3500+4600=$6,170.29 today. If you take longer than 8 years and continue to use the 30to8DS, you will continued to be charged $49.95/month. The 30to8DS is potentially a much bigger money maker for AMT than the audit and why AMT is so eager to cram this down your throat.

You also do not get the 30to8 software on a CD, you have to go to 30to8.com, login, and enter all your financial details into the website. 30to8.com is registered to a domain proxy by an owner who doesn't want to be found http://www.who.is/whois/30to8.com/  The last time I looked, your login is on an *INSECURE* http connection and who knows if your financial info is stored in plain text or encrypted. BEWARE! Do you want the whole world to know how $much you make, what your $mortgage is, what your card $payments are, etc.? And do you want to give away your info to a website owner who doesn't want to be found?

This is a negative option deal -- if you fail to take positive action to cancel the free software trial, you will be automatically billed $49.95/month with NO REFUNDS. Cancel instructions were on the Cancellation Policy page of 30to8's website 30to8.com but AMT has shown a propensity to hide things by moving them around so try googling "30to8.com cancellation policy".

Received a letter in the mail from this phone number claiming eligible for a mortgage analysis and refund review with refunds averaging from $1497.32 and on third of the refunds equal $3000.00 to $7500.00, has a case number starting with a #K....... to give them when you call.   For the heck of it, called the number, they know who your mortgage is with, AND who it was with before that company bought it out just by the case number.   Person reported $269.99 would start the process of the audit review with refund if they found no problem......... told them not a chance and hung up!

These are Mortgage Audit scammers.  Want $ up front so that they can conduct a "refundable" mortgage audit.  Just call your lender if you need to inquire about this.
